The afternoon lecture classes had ended, and instead of going straight to his dormitory, Elio Freyr walked to the hallway towards the Library.
It was not crowded that time of the day, because most of the students were in the black room to get their afternoon training as it was their schedule for the weekdays.
Not everyone was interested in training, and it was fine for the school if they chose not to attend every afternoon session, but they were required to attend at least two every week.
And Elio Freyr was one of those students who didn't like the idea of having training after lectures, instead he had chosen to be alone in the library.
But the thought of being alone was not possible, because a woman in her invisible form has never left his side ever since.
"Professor Euls is better than your Professor for the History of Magic. What's his name again? George? Yeah, Professor George. His class is so boring."
For how many times already since the moment he spent his time with Esther, Elio sighed again.
With her beside him, his silent world has become too noisy again, just like before.
"But I really thought I was with another person earlier. Back then, you never skipped classes, not even slept during lectures even though they're boring. But you were sleeping soundly earlier, and you didn't even bother to listen to anything he had said."
The door to the library was not too far from where they were but it felt ages to be there for Elio while being with his old friend.
For the past two years, he had lived alone in silence like a shadow in darkness where he never let anyone know where he was.
He learned to live and distanced himself from anyone who knew him, and there he found his inner peace while being alone.
The path he has taken was too dark for the past two years while grieving for his loss for his whole family.
And for that, he needed to make a huge adjustment for the things he was used to, and one of them is to be surrounded by people again, especially his old friends. Another thing was the adjustment of having a noisy environment and a noisy person beside him.
Elio stopped in front of the door to the library, and gave her a glance.
"I want to be alone inside."
"No worries. I'll be with the others inside."
He gave her a doubt, but instead of asking, he just pushed the door open.
It only took him three steps inside the library after he closed the door behind him before his feet automatically stopped.
In the middle of the reading hall inside the library, six students were seated at a long table, and that caught his full attention.
There was no one inside the reading hall except for them.
"Why are they here?" He couldn't contain his baffled self within him, and so he whispered and let Esther hear it.
"They were assigned to be at the library for the whole week, and to see your expression, you don't have any idea about that."
"Why?"
"Don't you know? Books have been missing for the past year, and no one knows why. So they assigned all the class four sections in the library.Class Four-A are assigned here now, except for Ayden and Aislah, who I saw walking towards the Infirmary earlier."
"That's enough. I want to be alone now."
"Sure. See you later, El."
In an instant, Elio became all by himself again as Esther jogged towards their table and left him alone.
Elio took the nearest staircase from his left and decided to get to the next storey of the library to avoid them.
The bookshelves were twice his height that extended to the ceiling. They were filled with books, but the gaps were just too many not to be noticed.
The first shelf he stopped by was the shelf for History books where the gaps of every book had gotten too many compared to the other shelves he had walked past by.
He stepped closer to the books, and touched the book on the end of the bookshelf. He then let his hands slide to that line of books as he moved slowly towards the other end of the bookshelf, touching each book that he could.
It was his way to find a particular book that would give him an answer to the thing he wanted to know, but unfortunately, the thing he was looking for was not on that line of books.
He stopped as soon as he reached the other end of the bookshelf.
Elio Freyr let his eyes travel through the rest of that shelf in front of him while he stayed on where he was standing.
What he was looking for was not there, and he could feel it. His mind did the job for him to look for each book, but he found nothing.
He was about to get to the next shelf when he stopped all of a sudden. Furrows formed in between his brows as he stared straight in front of him. Something had appeared suddenly in front that got all his attention.
"Stop." Elio maintained his voice low.
Through the History Bookshelf, books were floating and vanishing in front of him from different layers of the bookshelf.
No one could ever notice what was happening if seen from someone's normal vision, but with Elio's everything was so crystal clear.
"What are you all doing?"
A book has fallen to the ground as it slipped from the hands of one of them.
Their attention was now all directed to Elio Freyr who hadn't moved a little from where he was standing.
"Can he see us?" One of them asked as he stared in shock at him.
There were five of them in front of that bookshelf, and all of them had stopped just to look at Elio - the very first person who had seen them.
Elio walked towards the book that had fallen on the ground and picked it up while others were just watching him.
"History of Wizards and Sorcery." He read the words on the cover that made everyone gasping beside him.
"He can, and this is bad."
One of them jumped down to the ground and stood on his feet behind Elio, positioning himself to attack him. "What's happening here?" Everyone stopped, even the one behind Elio as a voice of a woman echoed behind them. Elio turned his back and met the person who was ready to attack him. He gave him a blank stare, before giving his attention to the woman who arrived. "Nothing. This just slipped from my hand." He showed her the book he was holding to make his lie more believable, but the seriousness pasted on his face has never left him. "Oh. Okay." She nodded. "I thought something's happening here already. You know. Things had messed up here. And we need to check everything. If you need something just call any of us." "I will, Thea. Thanks. I'll let you know." From his peripheral vision, Elio saw the five trying to escape from him. The four of them were getting down from the shelf, and the one in front of him stepped to his side. Thea, one of his old friends, turned to her right
A spiral staircase welcomed them behind a hidden door from the library. It has floating candles that light up the narrow space of the staircase through the way down. The four spirits of the library started walking down in front of Elio, while he and the leader were still both on top of the staircase behind the door. "This place is hidden for a reason. You'll know that when we get there." "How do I know that you won't kill me?" Elio's eyes were fixed on the candles floating in the air, amazed to see them right in front of him. "We need you, as I had said. And that alone is enough reason for you to believe me. Now follow me." The spirit pulled the door behind him to close it. As soon as he did, the candles' lights became brighter, as the light that was coming from the library was gone. He and Elio started taking steps down the staircase, carefully watching every step they were taking. "This place was built alongside the library. But now, only the spirits know its existence." "Wh
The almost everlasting hallway from the right side of the place has become so dark. No candles or torches were around to provide them light as they stroll towards the end of it. Elio Freyr has mastered the act of seeing in the dark for his life from two years back, but the darkness that was surrounding them was too different from that. The force surrounding the place has never been felt that strong, but as they walked towards the end of the hallway, the energy that filled up the place became stronger, but they kept moving forward abandoning that feeling inside them. A door at the end of the hallway was nearing, which meant that the force had even become stronger, but Elio Freyr held back and continued walking with the five spirits of the library towards it. "Cover your eyes when I open the door, if you still want to see clearly after." There was a button-like stone just on the left side of the door that was mounted on the wall. It was a size of a normal hand of a human, and it h
"They lured you here so they can take your body and be alive again." Elio Freyr was watching the souls inside the Dot in silence. They were still fighting for his body which was lying on the ground near the podium helplessly. "I need this body." The leader said in his authoritative voice, far from the way he was talking when Elio was around. It was too powerful and too proud."We already talked about this. We agreed that I'll be taking over next, don't we? This is so unfair, Rio." "We did. But things do change Morgan. And we also agreed that if I want to get a specific body, you will give it to me no matter what and when." "That's not what we agreed to. We made an order on who would go next and we need to stick with that." The one whom the leader called Morgan said, trying to make his point. "Who are they, really?" Elio Freyr could not contain all the questions inside his head, as there were just so many of them that were lingering in his mind. "In your History books, they are t
"Oh Shoot. Glad you're awake! I almost dragged you out of here." His dark brown eyes met a pair of hazzle eyes in front of him. The relief of seeing her friend back alive was written all over her face that overcame her fear and worriedness for him. From the corner of his eyes, the souls gathered around were visible for him, facing their backs from them as they discussed what they would do about him. But he didn't bother to give them a little more attention, because his mind was still fixed on the conversation he had with Selene, and his memories from there went back as soon as he met his old friend in front of him. "Before you go. I want to tell you another thing." "That sounds more serious than what you have let me see. What is it?" The curiosity made him stop and look back at her, meeting her ever so serious expression plastered on her face, with her eyes staring directly at him. "The one who came to save you, needs to be saved. Life and power is on the line. Help her before i
“One of those souls took over his body just months before you came back. He's the reason how I found this place and the other souls.""Can he see you?" "No."An old man with white mustache and gray hair, standing taller than the both of them, stopped just two meters away from the two. "This is the very last place you would wish to be in, Mr. Freyr.""Am I in trouble?" Elio doesn't seem to be too concerned about what he got himself into and who he was facing, with his still blank face and soulless eyes directly staring at him. He's great inspiration for what expression he chose to use might be the fact that he knew that he isn't the real Headmaster. "You are. But the lucky thing is that I found you, not anybody else." "How do you say it's luck?" "Because I am the Headmaster of this Academy, Mr. Freyr, if you happened to forget.""Then why is it luck when you are the Headmaster? I should be in so much trouble because you're the highest person in this place. Did you happen to forget
The Headmaster turned around and met Esther's troubled expression that was too obvious in all of her being. "You're a Seer, but you didn't foresee this. You 're already useless and it would be just fine if you die now." His grin widened, and Esther still couldn't calm herself. Her heart's beating even faster, and feeling so suffocated even in the wide space in front of the door. "No one would ever know if you die right here because no one knows your existence."He took a step closer towards her, and she took a step backward to get away from him."I remember you sneaking inside my office with no fear of being caught. Now look at you. You're so different. You're so white as snow, and you're filled with fear. And that's what I want to see on the faces of people I am killing." Esther started gasping for air and panic started crawling all over her body. She was being choked by something. She placed her hand on her throat to remove whatever was blocking her airway, but there was nothing
"Esther?" A sudden voice calling her made her stop as she walked past by one of the bookshelves in the library. Her mind was still busy thinking about what had happened earlier, and how Elio reacted while delivering her the news. It was all still fresh in her memories, but everything went away when someone called her name. "Wait, Esther. Are you really… Holy crap!" The woman appeared from the other way between the shelves and continued walking towards her. The lady covered her mouth with both of her hands. Her eyes got a little too watery, as she stared at Esther who was not moving in her place. Esther was confused, and was frowning at the sight of her friend in front of her. She was dumbfounded about her who suddenly bawled her eyes out while covering her mouth. "Cassiopeia, what's happening there?" One of their friends called, coming from the other side of the library on the second floor. "Esther." The man stopped in front of Esther, beside Cassiopeia, and just like Esther, h
