General Adolph stood, his face stern.

"Send word to the men," he ordered. "Eat, regain strength."

A soldier saluted, stepped out of the tent.

Barely a minute passed.

Cries of pain echoed through the camp.

A soldier rushed in, frantic.

"Your Highness, General, Lord Lyrien!" he exclaimed.

"What is it?" Princess Isabella asked, concern etched.

"Goblins, ma'am," the soldier replied.

"They're back."

General Adolph's face darkened.

"How?" Lyrien demanded.

The soldier hesitated.

"We were eating, sir... Arrows came from nowhere."

"Many are dead, more injured."

Princess Isabella's eyes widened.

"How many?" General Adolph asked.

"Over a hundred, sir," the soldier replied.

"Injured?"

"Double that number, sir."

Lyrien's face fell.

"This is Eryndor's doing," General Adolph growled.

"We must act."

Princess Isabella stood.

"Tend to the wounded," she ordered.

Lyrien nodded.

"I'll mobilize our remaining forces."

General Adolph's eyes narrowed.

"We'll pursue those goblins."

The soldier saluted, departed.

Outside, chaos reigned. Men cried out. Healers rushed to aid. The camp, once calm, now teemed with panic.

General Adolph gestured. "Please, sit."

Princess Isabella and Lyrien sat.

"We can't stay here," General Adolph said.

"Camping in the forest puts us on the defensive."

Lyrien leaned forward.

"We should wait for the spies," Lyrien suggested.

"Once they return, we mobilize, strike Eryndor."

General Adolph shook his head. "Those goblins attacked while our men ate," General Adolph said. "Their spies must have informed them. Our spies are likely dead."

Lyrien opened his mouth to retort.

Princess Isabella intervened. "Wait," Princess Isabella said. "Let the injured recover."

"Then we march against Eryndor." General Adolph considered.

Lyrien nodded.

"Agreed," General Adolph said.

"We'll tend to the wounded."

"Tonight, we prepare."

"Tomorrow, we strike."

Lyrien stood.

"I'll oversee preparations."

Princess Isabella followed.

"I'll help the healers."

General Adolph watched them go, he hardened his jaw in determination as he Eryndor would fall.

In a thickets overlooking the human camp, goblins lay hidden.

Armed with bows and arrows, they waited.

General Vexar, a burly goblin, opened a small pouch.

A space pouch, enchanted to hold more.

He pulled out grilled meat, passed it around.

The goblins devoured the meat, savoring the taste.

"G-General Vexar!" a goblin whispered.

"The humans tend to their wounded, and they're less vigilant, thinking we've fled."

General Vexar's eyes gleamed.

"Perfect," he hissed.

"Nock your arrows," he ordered. "Aim for the healers."

The goblins obeyed, arrows at the ready.

General Vexar's strategy was clear. Without healers, humans would fall easier, and it will be even more easier to pick them off, one by one.

The goblins targeted the healers.

Princess Isabella, among them, unaware of the danger lurking nearby.

General Vexar smiled, "For the glory of King Eryndor and the Legion!."

He raised his hand. "Fire!" he whispered.

The goblins released their arrows.

A soldier approached Princess Isabella.

"The General needs you, Your Highness," he said.

Princess Isabella stood, took a few steps.

A healer cried out and then fell.

An arrow protruded from his back.

The Princess's heart sank.

"Another ambush!" she exclaimed.

She rushed into the nearest tent.

Cries of pain echoed.

Arrows whizzed past.

Then, sudden silence.

The General, Princess, and Lyrien emerged.

Carnage greeted them.

Healers lay lifeless.

Arrows pierced their bodies.

None survived.

General Adolph's face darkened.

"Eryndor's tactics worsen," Lyrien growled.

Princess Isabella's eyes welled.

"Our healers... gone."

The camp was in chaos.

Soldiers tended to wounded comrades.

But without healers, the soldiers have no chance against the horde of monsters. There will be no healer to dispel poison or heal their injuries. At this thought, hope dwindled.

General Adolph's voice rose. "Regroup! Protect the wounded!"

Lyrien mobilized the remaining forces.

Princess Isabella oversaw the makeshift care, but morale of the soldiers had hit rock bottom.

General Adolph's face reddened.

"Lyrien, your intel was incomplete!" he bellowed.

"Eryndor's strength, his tactics... you elves failed us!"

Lyrien's eyes flashed.

"We gathered all available information," Lyrien protested.

"Eryndor must have hidden his true army."

General Adolph slammed his fist.

"That's no excuse! Our healers, our men... gone!"

Lyrien's voice rose.

"We're not infallible. Eryndor's cunning."

General Adolph's anger boiled.

"Cunning? You're the ones who should've known!"

Lyrien's face set.

"We did our best. Don't blame us for your failures."

The argument escalated.

Princess Isabella intervened.

"Stop! This isn't helping."

General Adolph's expression hardened.

"Enough. We're retreating."

Lyrien's eyes widened.

"Retreating? We can't abandon our position."

General Adolph's voice was firm.

"We'll regroup, reassess. You, Lyrien, return to Elysia."

"Prepare better. We'll need it."

Lyrien's face fell. "As you command, General."

He turned, departed.

General Adolph ordered his soldiers.

"Prepare for retreat. We'll leave at dawn."

The camp erupted into activity.

Packing, gathering wounded.

Morale had hit rock bottom.

Princess Isabella approached General Adolph.

"Was that necessary?" she asked.

General Adolph's expression softened.

"We need results, not excuses."

But doubts crept into his mind. Was retreating the right decision?

General Vexar watched from a hidden spot.

The humans and elves quickly packed their things.

They took down their tents and gathered their weapons.

The human soldiers ran away toward the Kingdom of Kryptoria.

The elven army went back to the Elysia Forest.

General Vexar walked to two goblins.

"Go back to our village," he said. "Tell His Excellency King Eryndor what happened."

The goblins nodded and quickly left.

General Vexar watched them disappear into the trees.

Then he turned back to the empty camp.

The humans and elves were running away.

The King's plan worked perfectly. Although there was supposed to be a second wave at night, but this was better than anything they had hoped for. The next generation will remember General Vexar, as the mighty general who served under the first Elven-Goblin King, and caused the elves and humans to run with their tails tucked between their legs.

General Vexar smiled.

He waited for Eryndor's next order.

The two goblins arrived at the village.

They ran to find Grimp who was actually tending to the wounded goblins and orcs.

"Lord Grimp!" they shouted.

"What's wrong?" Grimp asked.

"We have a message from General Vexar," they said. "The humans and elves are running away."

Grimp's face lit up with a smile. "His Excellency will be very happy with your hard-work." Grimp said.

Grimp quickly went to Eryndor's chambers.

"My lord King Eryndor, I have news," Grimp announced. "General Vexar sent a message."

Eryndor looked up, interested.

"Tell me," Eryndor said.

Grimp took a deep breath. "The humans and elves are retreating."

Eryndor's eyes sparkled.

"Good," Eryndor said. "Now we can begin the next part of the plan."
