Chapter 1

"No professor!" he yelled. His emotions are all over him. 

While Sofia is calm on his side, holding their son and trying to hush him down. They hurriedly went to the Incantatus when Headmaster Feliz sent a letter to them that Mirisitum, one of the brightest wizards, started doing terrible things. He is gaining proponents so that he can have the power to fight the elements of magic and lead the world of Victorium. 

“What should we do then, James?” Headmaster Feliz is bothered, walking back and forth inside the room.

He said no because Headmaster wanted to turn himself in so that no one will be harmed by Mirisitum anymore, Headmaster Feliz held one of the powerful wands in the world of Victorium and Mirisitum can use Headmaster once the Headmaster turned himself in. 

“We should fight him,” he answered back. 

Headmaster Feliz shook his head and calmly said, “No we can’t, I know you are powerful as well as Sofia but then he did a ritual to get the power he has right now James.” 

He walks around the room, thinking of what they should do. Mirisitum is his friend when they are still studying here in the Incantatus. He can't understand why he does that kind of magic.

“Then what do you want us to do?” he asked the Headmaster, trying not to shout again. 

“Protect your son, I will communicate with the Elements of Magic for us to know what we should do.” Headmaster Feliz said and stormed out of the room.

Professor McGreen is still here and looking at them. James smiled lightly at her. She’s a great professor, she was like James's mother back then. Professor McGreen went to him and tapped his shoulder. He calmed down a little bit.

“We will lose a lot of lives here, James. Be strong, we can fight this one.” Professor McGreen said and hugged him. She then hugged Sofia and looked at their son, Zain. 

“Everything will be okay in time, Sofia.” Professor McGreen comforted his wife and left the room. 

He breathed deeply and went to Sofia, he kissed her forehead and hugged them tightly.

"We will protect you, son," he whispered to his son and picked him up from Sofia. 

Sofia smiled at him and kissed him on his cheeks. 

"Let's go, Daddy?" she asked him. He smiled and nodded. 

Who would have thought that those six years passed by already? It's been four years since they graduated and already have their own family. 

They walked outside the room, the hallways of Incantatus never changed, it always feels like home. After six years of studying in this school, many things occurred, happy and sad memories were created and he can't think of a reason why, why did Mirisitum do that. Mirisitum is intelligent, powerful, he can have the highest position in the elements of magic if he tried to. 

"In deep thoughts, my love?" he looked at Sofia, they were still walking to the station of Incantatus, their car was there. 

"I'm sorry," he sadly said. Sofia might be asking him questions and he didn't hear it because of him drifting away while they were walking. 

Sofia smiled at him. "It's okay, let me take Zain already. Let's go home," she answered. He nodded and gave Zain back to her.  

"James, it will be okay. We will protect him, I will protect him with my powers." Sofia softly said while they were on the road going back to the castle. 

He shook his head. Thinking that they need to fight Mirisitum is hard because he's a  friend. Maybe they were not that close but then they did share a lot of memories in Incantatus. 

"I can't let you do anything, Sofia. I should protect the both of you no matter what," he firmly said and entered the castle gates.

He stopped the car in front of the main door, the servant will be the one to park it. He got out of the car and opened the door for Sofia and Zain. 

"You know, James. You know what power he already has. You need me." Sofia said pissed at him, left him at the main door, and went straight to their son's room.

He deeply sighed and went to the training room to cast some spells. He needs to be aware of his surroundings, he needs to protect his family. Mirisitum might come anytime to him to ask for his support directly and he knows what will happen once he says no. After fixing himself, he went to his office, looked around, and couldn't think of anything. He still wants to be with Zain as he grows up, he wants to send him to school, and answer all the questions he has. 

He heard the door open. Sofia entered the room.

"He's sleeping," she softly said and went to him, kissed him on the lips. He hugged his wife very tight. He never knows what might happen, this could be the last. 

"I love you so much, Sofia," he whispered to her ears. 

"And I love you more, James," Sofia answered, hugging him more tightly. 

Moments later, they were seated on the sofa. Holding each other's hands. Thinking of what they should do, of what they should prepare. 

"What should we do, Sofia?" he asked his wife. Sofia sighed. She is sad and he can feel it because they are connected.

"Let's start with the things we will leave to Zain when we lose the fight with Mirisitum," she said to him. He nodded at her and went to the table. Doing this like there is no other choice, they know that they will die.

"The castle will be his, the elements of magic will surely give this to him," he started saying the things that they will leave to Zain, it will be a lot. 

They should secure his future, he will be known, he holds the greatest power this world has, and no one knows about it but them and the Headmaster. 

"We should write a letter for him that he can open when he turns 13, the power he holds. He should learn to control it." She said to James, while she started going around the room to do what she needed to do. 

He glanced at his wife and she saw how sad she looked. He can't do anything, why can't he? He sighed and did what Sofia wanted. 

"Yes, we will. We will tell him in that letter that he shouldn't be afraid of what the future awaits for him," he said in a comforting way so Sofia can feel that she needs to calm down. Sofia nodded. 

"Zain will be great, he is. It's breaking my heart thinking I might not be able to see him grow up." Sofia said with tears slowly falling in her eyes. 

"He will live on his own, learn things on his own. No one will guide him." Sofia continued saying. He can't help but watch his wife sob in front of him. It's breaking him also. 

He stands up and sits beside her. Hush her down. "Ssh, ssh. If we ever lose this fight. Headmaster and the professors will take care of him, they will guide him," he said and hugged her. 

Sofia hushed down and told him she will go to their son's room. He let her, knowing Sofia wanted to spend more time with Zain. He will too, later after finishing stuff.

She walked inside the room of Zain and looked at him. His son looks so handsome. She wants to see him grow up. She caressed his face, he's a 1-year-old baby and she can't accept the fact that she might leave him this early. She picked him up from his cradle. 

"My love, if ever mommy and daddy won't be around anymore, know that we will always stay in your heart," she said and kissed his forehead. 

She silently cries while holding him. This might be the last but she is hoping that it's not. She sat down at the chair with him on her lap, he's already awake and looking at her. She smiled at him, he smiled back at her. 

"It will be okay baby, you are powerful, you will be the greatest wizard of your time. It will be hard but you can do it," she said, Zain just coos at her.

Zain doesn't know, he thinks that she's playing with him like they used to do. No baby, mommy's protecting you. She said in her mind. 

She stood up and put him in his cradle first, he's already hungry. She went down and went to the kitchen to get Zain some food. 

"James, where are you?" she shouted, he can hear her wherever he is. 

"In the office, I will go upstairs in a while," he answered. She fixed Zain's dinner, as well as for her and James. 

Before she went up, she looked around the wide living room. It's been years, she dreamed of her kids playing around but then time won't permit them. 

"Hello, my little Zain," She said smiling while entering the door. He jumped in his cradle and smiled. He's so jolly. She put the food on the table and picked up Zain. 

"Let's eat baby," She said and put him on his high chair. 

"Mo-mommy," he said. She looked at him with wide eyes, he could finally say it. 

"Oh my, baby. Did you just call mommy? Can you say it again?" she asked and leveled with him. 

He laughs at her, "Mommy," he happily said. Sofia can't contain the happiness she's feeling. James entered the room. 

"Our baby said something, my love," she said while tears were falling on her eyes because of happiness. James smiled and went to his wife and son, he sat down on the sofa. "Let me hear it, baby," he said while holding Zain's hand.

"Da-daddy," Zain said and clapped his hands. Sofia hugged James while tears fell from her eyes. 

"My boy, did I hear it right? You could finally say it," he happily said. Zain clapped his hands again.  She looked at them, her husband and son. The family she wished for.  

They ate dinner happily. Zain is being jolly, he laughs and says different words that they almost can’t understand. Sofia can't help but feel sad. James held her hand and smiled slightly at her. He knows what she is feeling. 

James put the plates downstairs and Sofia let Zain play a little while she fixed his things. She looked out the window and saw that all the lights were down. She felt chills in her veins. It went cold. She looked at Zain and he was still playing, she should go down and look for James. 

"Sofia, don't go down," he said when she looked at the stairs and he's there.

She knows that look, something is happening. She panicked for a while but then he smiled at me and whispered I love you. 

She calmed down. Slowly going back to her son's room, fixing his things like everything is okay. She heard the main door open. It's him, Mirisitum. She picked up Zain and listened from the door. 

"James, support me," Mirisitum said in a low and pleading voice.

"Why are you doing this, Mirisitum?" her husband asked. 

"You know me, I want to have everything, with you supporting me I am sure that they will also support me," Mirisitum shouted, already losing his patience because James is doubting him.

She started crying silently while kissing Zain's forehead. 

They started shouting downstairs. Sofia thought of escaping but they couldn't. They promised to protect Zain with their lives and she promised to be with James. They can't leave because Mirisitum will just find them and he can find them.

"Son, be brave," she whispered to Zain and hugged him tightly.

He looks at her so innocently, it's breaking her heart into pieces. She heard footsteps going upstairs, She prepared herself for what may come. The door opened. 

"Hello, Sofia," Mirisitum said in a playful tone as he entered the room with James.

She looks at them, James looks weak already. They fought. 

"And hello there, little James." She hid Zain away from him. 

"Why Mirisitum?" She asked while looking at him with angry and disappointed eyes. He laughed like a madman, it filled the room. James went beside me. 

"You want to know why?" Mirisitum said and walked around the room. "Let me tell you then," he added. 

Flashback 

3rd Magical Year 

Inside the grounds of the Incantatus, Sofia, James, and Albert are practicing their spells. When Mirisitum came and wanted to practice with them, they ignored him. The other witches and wizards laughed at him and said that he does not belong in Incantatus. 

Mirisitum kept quiet and practiced on his own. He just wants to have friends but the wizards and witches in Incantatus think that he is a freak and doesn’t belong there. He looks at them, he likes Sofia, she's intelligent and special but then James already has her. 

He told himself that next year he will try to be friends with them again. As the magical year will already come to an end he won't have a chance anymore.

4th Magical Year 

In the new school year, he's alone inside the cabin train, no one wants to sit with him. When he heard a knock. He looked at the door. Sofia he said in his mind. Sofia smiled at him and slightly opened the door. 

"Hi, may we sit with you?" she asked him. He looked at the back of Sofia and saw James and Albert there. He immediately nodded and said, "Yes, sure no problem." 

"Thank you," she said. He can't help but be mesmerized by her beauty, she's so simple and has that soft voice that soothes her. 

They sat down and started chatting, but they didn't talk to him. When a trolley of food passed by they bought some. That's when James approached Mirisitum. 

"Hey, you want some?" he asked and sat beside him. The trolley of food waits patiently at the cabin door. Mirisitum shyly nodded but then James, being the boy he is, immediately pulled Mirisitum and let him pick what he wanted. 

"Don't be shy, it's on me." He happily said to Mirisitum. 

Mirisitum felt happy, he got friends. They shared an interesting year at the Incantatus that year. They became friends, shared many experiences. Mirisitum trained with them, and they became the top of their class. James is the one leading them as he belongs to the line of greatest and powerful wizards. 

Not until their last year in Incantatus came. 

6th Magical Year 

They are at the campus grounds, practicing their spells and magics. Mirisitum is at the back watching his friends, they look so happy. Especially Sofia, he loves her but then she is happy with James and he knows that James can take care of her better than him. 

He can't help but feel lost, there are two weeks left in the magical year and he doesn't know what to do. He is getting envious of what they can achieve after this year ends. He took a deep breath and stood up. 

"Where are you going, Mirisitum?" Sofia asked him. He looked at her and smiled. "At the library," he said and walked fast already. 

Miristum arrived at the library, he sat near the window where he could see the academy grounds. He cast a spell so that a book list will appear in front of him. "Alist" 

While looking at the list, a book entitled “The Dark Magic” shows, he has already heard about this book and he knows that no one had read that book nor held the book for a long time. 

Why did it appear in the list that he can read? He said the book's name and the book appeared on his table. Thoughts have flown while he was reading the book, there is something that he wanted to do upon reading this book. 

"Mirisitum!" someone called him. He looks at his back and he sees Sofia and James are there, waving at him calling him to go to the main hall for lunch. He closed the book and whispered "meda" to hide the book and only he can find it. 

Days pass by, he would always go to the library to read the book and learn about it. But then Sofia caught him. 

"Why are you reading that?" she angrily said. He hurriedly stood up and covered her mouth. 

"Don't shout!" he firmly said and he doesn't want to let go of Sofia, Sofia is resisting Mirisitum. When Sofia calmed down a little, Mirisitum let go of her. 

"I liked to read it, I can learn new spells here," he said and sat down. Sofia also sat in front of him. "But this is forbidden, Mirisitum." Sofia calmly said, trying not to be mad at her friend. 

Sofia didn't say anything anymore, but she was worried. She knows that once you start reading that book something might happen. She let Mirisitum do what he wanted at the same time she watched him closely. 

Until one night while looking at her map where she can see everyone in the academy, Mirisitum went to the training room. What would he do in the training room at this time? she asked herself. Worried, she went out of bed and hurriedly spied Mirisitum. 

"per serria, merely" she heard Mirisitum mumble. She looks at what he is doing and she sees a dark spell coming out of Mirisitum's wand. She gasped, covered her mouth immediately, and ran silently so that Mirisitum couldn't see or hear her. She's panicking, she hurriedly goes to Professor McGreen, even though it is in the middle of the night. 

"What is it?" Professor McGreen said when she opened the door. 

Sofia can't talk so Professor McGreen guides her inside the room. She sat down on the sofa and calmed down a little. She started telling what she saw and Professor McGreen couldn't believe that the prophecy was occurring again. Professor McGreen looked pale but she got back to her senses immediately and calmed down. 

Little did they know, Mirisitum heard everything and James saw everything also. He also saw how Mirisitum got the book that night and went out of the Incantatus but then Mirisitum used the dark magic on him so that he couldn't say anything. 

End of flashback 

"That's what happened, Sofia. YOU BETRAYED ME!" he shouted angrily that made Zain cry. She doesn't know, all she knows is that Mirisitum left the Incantatus. 

"If you didn't tell Professor McGreen, I might stop practicing that dark magic, but because you told her, I might lose everything. I might be put in Zaranda forever," he added while catching his breath because of anger.

Mirisitum tried to attack Sofia with a spell. "Verre!" he said and pointed his wand at Sofia but then James immediately saw it. 

"Firisto!" a blocking spell, James cast the spell.

They both raised their wands while she cast a spell, but then before she could say it, Mirisitum swished his hand and shouted. 

"Morietur!" Her eyes widened. Death. 

She hurriedly put Zain in his cradle. The spell reached James and her. Zain is crying. He is calling her. She smiled at him, she whispered "felix hindered," which means a shield spell. 

When her spell covered Zain, she saw a light coming from him. He is crying like he is in pain. That's when she heard Mirisitum shout in pain. What did you do my dear? she asked in her mind. 

"What is this?" Mirisitum shouted while looking at his body. Sofia looked at him with all her strength left, she saw him being covered in black dust. With the look on his face, he looks scared, mad at what is happening to him.

Sofia whispered a spell for the gods and goddesses, "merli pery, gus felicias' ' May he forever vanish in this world let there be peace. 

Before she closed her eyes, She held James's hand and said I'm sorry Zain. It will be okay. She whispered another spell to let the Headmaster know what happened and to take care of her son. 

Till we see each other again, Zain. We will always guide you, we love you. She closed her eyes and let the darkness eat her.
