Like usual, Matthew woke up early and started on his training. He felt different today due to all the different training methods he was putting himself through. He couldn't tell what the change was, but he knew that it would be important later.

He decided to change it up today and began with the mana control technique. He was still able to move the one unit of mana around when he focused on it. It still felt stiff like he was moving muscles he hadn't used in a long time. Little by little he was able to move that one unit easier until that one unit became two. At some point during his focus, the one unit of mana he was controlling had picked up another, making it difficult to move his mana again.

He felt that this would continue until all the mana in his body was under his control. He had finally reached his limit after thirty or so minutes of moving his now two units out of thirty-five.

Moving on to mana perception, he began to push against t

Matthew was refining his body an insane pace. If his grandfather saw how he was using the technique, he would most likely beat him due to the damage he could do to his body. Organs were getting refined so quickly to the point that they began to break apart due to the stress. He was maintaining this pace by taking short breaks so that his organs could heal due to his ring. His body was glowing with a strange light and was putting off heat like a furnace. His clothes were soaked with sweat and the air in the room felt humid due to how fast it was evaporating. The organ he was having the most difficulty with was his brain. He had to take it slow since his body wouldn't function at all if he damaged it. Nonetheless, he pressed on, trying to maintain his rapid pace. He could feel so much changing about him that he actually lost track of how much pain he was enduring. His skin bulged and shrank at random intervals sometimes tearing, but then healing shortly

  • Epic of the Broken Immortal   Class Finals

The end of Matthew's first full month came to an end on a Monday, which meant he had to present. Every month, all the classes of a year would get together for a tournament. There were roughly five hundred students in the first year so it would take the whole week to decide the class and personal winners. Matthew was sitting at his desk when he was assigned number five hundred, which entailed that he would be the very last person to fight. He wasn't very worried since he had been improving his skills and training his body with his every waking moment lately. The third step made his muscles extremely dense so he hadn't been out on any requests due to him adjusting to his ever changing body. He was about two thirds of the way finished with the third step and it would only take him one or two sessions of refining to finish it. The tournament was pretty boring all in all since all he could do was sit and watch. He had already seen his opponent, who was numbe

  • Epic of the Broken Immortal   Dangerous

Matthew had to learn to control his strength, and he had to do it fast. If he hit someone in the wrong spot, they would surely be dead. For that he would need to talk to Mr. Falls about a possible method to do so. Matthew search for him for almost an hour before finding him in his classroom. The tournament would continue in two days so that was the allotted time he had to gain control. "Mr. Falls, I know I need a way to control my strength, but I haven't a clue where to begin. Could you help me?" Matthew asked "Well, your situation is a little difficult to do that with. If it were just mana that you were trying to restrict it would be easy, but your actual physical strength is the problem. How far are you in your refining technique?" Mr. Falls asked "I'm only one or two sessions from finishing the third step and the fourth shouldn't take me more than a day to complete." Matthew said Mr. Falls stated at him blankly for a sol

  • Epic of the Broken Immortal   Almost There

He was almost finished with the third step. It was a mere one session from starting the fourth step and he was very expectant of what it would bring. The pain he was feeling was still pretty intense, but he didn't care. He was pushing his body into overdrive to do his best. Little by little, he was advancing to a stage that most people his age could only dream of. His muscles rippled as they changed and a pressure began to exude from his body. It caused things all over his house to begin to vibrate ever so slightly. Then, all at once, a powerful wave passed through his body and into his surroundings. His house shook like it was an earthquake and a few books fell from shelves all over the house along with a few glass items that shattered when they hit the ground. He had finished the third step and his body was still changing. *Ding* *Status updated* Matthew Hart Level - 2 Titles - none Constitution - Stone body (third step) Sk

  • Epic of the Broken Immortal   Stone Body (Complete)

The morning came quickly due to Matthew's schedule. Like usual, he woke up early and immediately got to work. The first thing he did for the day was his physical training to make sure his body was in perfect shape to finish his refining today. With his physical training finished, he went inside and had breakfast. After the events of yesterday, he had decided to do his refining outside since he didn't know if he would release the same pressure as yesterday when he finished the fourth step. He took a seat under the lone tree in their front yard to begin the process. His skin was already being refined due to the rest of his body having reached completion. It would only take a push to take it over the edge and that was exactly what he planned to do. His skin began to tear and shift as he was trying to refine it at the fastest pace he could maintain. He hadn't even heard the system update that said that his mana gathering had leveled up. Soon

  • Epic of the Broken Immortal   Mana Core

His mana core look a little different now that he had fully refined his body. It looked tough like stone and the strange patterns that had already been on it looked more defined. The crack was still there, but he could sense that it was closer to being closed now. He decided to consult the book on what to do now since that was his next step. He still had the rest of the day, but he was unsure if that would be enough time to fix his cracked core. "The process of fixing a cracked core can be initiated after the third step has been reach. To do so, draw mana into the core, which should have begun to heal on its own to some extent. Once the core is filled, use the mana to create a patch over the crack. Then use the core refining technique to compress the core. As the core is compressed, the crack will close up. The only disadvantage to this is that the core will become much smaller due to the compression. A word of caution, after the core is healed, be wary

    A light in the darkness

The fourth day in the training room came as Matthew continued to focus his mana to the center of the spiral in his mana core. By this time, the spiral was half the size it was originally, and mana it was made of was thick and slow moving. He had begun to sweat from the intense struggle he was having by forcing his mana to condense. Slowly, his mana was condensing to become like thick clouds instead of thin and wispy like fog. This was the prerequisite to ignite his spark, as the mana had to be dense enough to sustain it long enough to stay lit. Once the spark came into existence, it would have to be continuously supplied with mana so that it wouldn't go out. It wasn't until the level of mage that it would stay lit without a constant supply of mana. If the spark went out, he would have to start over from scratch.Slowly, the spiral began to stagnate its movement under its own weight. For a long moment, nothing happened. Just when it seeme

    The stage is set

Matthew was drawing large currents of mana into his core to saturate it to the point of there not being anymore space inside it. It didn't take him long due to the amount of mana that he already had stored. If someone looked inside his core at the moment, what they would find was a swirling mass of purple mana that looked vaguely like a small hurricane. The next step he had to take was to push the walls of his mana core to the point that it expanded to the normal grade. This was the hardest part as his reinforced core was very sturdy and might develop cracks if he expanded it too fast. Cracking his core at this point would take him days to fix even with his enhanced recovery and the amount of mana he would have to use to do so would equal the amount he needed to expand his core by several fold. It took him a little over a full day in the training room to reach the threshold of the normal grade core. All he need was a small push with a little more mana that he had to

    Something Wicked

A ways away from the town, in a desolate part of the wilderness that featured no life, something stirred. It was a large humanoid creature with random pieces of armor attached to it. This creature was once human that had died and become one of the monsters that it once sought to destroy. The undead were not that uncommon in the world since the vast number of humans that hadn't been able to adapt to mana had died. Some became unholy creatures of the dark even to include vampires. Generally speaking, vampires and the werefolk were much more rare than the standard undead and usually want to live in peace versus seeking out humans to devour. This particular undead was on the move and was headed in a particular direction. It was a peak pawn grade existence that was only a step away from the knight grade. If it advanced, it would become an unstoppable force of nature for most. Soon, it would reach its destination and wreak havoc. * * * Matthew stood

    Refining Again

Matthew decided to start his training anew with refining again. Since it was the weekend, he would be able to do this and take on a few missions to restore his funds that he had spent. He didn't want to work on mana skills just yet seeing as his core was still stabilizing. Starting from scratch, he focused his own mana to his marrow. His mana was now entirely converted with the gravity affinity, making it feel heavy inside his bones. His mana spread out and joined the mana already present causing it to be converted as well. He felt virtually no pain this time as his marrow was already quite tough and resistant to pain. He went a full hour before he had depleted the mana in his core. He could already feel the difference as he felt that he was slightly sluggish due to the increased weight of his marrow. Now that he was finished, he made sure to gather and convert some more mana. The difference was however that his mana value had increased since

The finals had concluded and Matthew was ready to head home. However, he wouldn't get his wish right away as it was time for the prize ceremony. Third place received a medal and two days in a meditation chamber. These chambers allowed someone to advance rapidly since they enhanced the strength of a mana core and the absorption rate of mana would be increased due to the concentration of mana. Second place received a medal, four days in a meditation chamber, and personal training from the head instructor. This was rather good since the head instructor was at the peak of the mage level and could give many pointers. Matthew received the first place medal, a week in the meditation chamber, personal training from the head instructor, and a manual of his choosing. If he had known this he would have waited to buy the gravity manual. At least he could aquire more advance mana techniques that would allow him to rapidly increase his strength and make him more ver

It didn't take long for the arena to fill up and the announcer to make his way to the center of the stage. "There has been a change in the line up of the final matches. There will now be one match where it will be three against one. The three contenders will have to remove a red waist band from their opponent to claim victory. On the other hand, if all three of them are knocked from the ring or otherwise subdued, the main contender will be the victor. Are there any objections?" The announcer said The audience was silent as no one had an objection to this change. They all turned to stare at Matthew since he was sitting in the front row. Most hadn't seen his match, but the ones that had didn't believe the other three would come out victorious still.
