The stairs creaked with a silent groan of evasion and his footsteps frenzied with a thudded pound of escape as Mr. Lawrence’s men followed Alan as he retracted down the stair unto the preceding floor.

The gunshots exploded around Alan as shower glasses and windows were shattered from the ricochet of the bullets. Smoke destructively filled the air.

Alan found a corner on the second floor to hide himself. The bullets were still fired in his direction.

The bullets shrieked with a deafening whistle of violence, piercing with a deafening crack of violence.

Alan could feel that one of Mr. Lawrence’s

men was standing just on the floor above him and he had a good view to get a shot at him.

The guard kept shooting with conviction that he could kill Alan but Alan waited for the right moment.

Pow! Pow!

With two sharp bullets that struck the assassin, he fell to the ground in a heap.

But Alan had one bullet left in his riffle which was surely not going to be enough. He knew that he had to escape

Alan slumped his head in sadness as he found it hard to even digest the fact that Rose was dead. The silence that followed Hibeon’s question was a deafening hush of devastation and a blanket of grief.Hibeon knew immediately that Rose was dead and the grief was transmitted to him.“Shlupp was also shot dead by Mr. Lawrence,” Alan informed, suspicious that Hibeon was going to ask about Shlupp next. “Look, it is very painful and devastating but we can mourn at some other time,” Alan whispered, his breath set in an urgent exhale of tension. “Now is not the time to run for our lives or we will also be killed. We can't revenge Rose and Shlupp if we are dead.”“And where is Ralph?” Alan asked, his eyes widened in a desperate hope that he was dead. “We had to separate during the shootout with Mr. Lawrence and his men. He is somewhere hanging around as well. I can only hope that he hasn't been caught.”There was an urgent hum of hope from Alan.“How many bullets do you have left?” Alan whisp

****Mr. Billing’s body lay still in a state of inactivity as monitors were beeping with an incessant rhythm of life, each sound was a pulse of persistence as he had been on the treatment bed for almost two days.Tubes were snaked to his body with an eerie twist of necessity as the air was thick and filled with the oppressive smell of antiseptic. Mr. Billing’s eyelids soon flickered open with a silent flutter of awakening. His gaze was unfocused and he was staring with a vague stare of confusion. ‘Where the hell am I? What am I doing there? What is that smell? Am I in a hospital? Why the hell am I in a hospital?’ Mr. Billing asked himself repeatedly. It was very strange for him as he tried to get a feel of what exactly was happening. He could barely even remember his name.Mr. Billing’s hands grasped with a frantic struggle of confusion as his eyes darted with a flicker of fear. His breath heaved with desperation as he struggled to remove the tubes with a frantic twist of resistance

Griffith’s eyes twinkled with a mischievous going of arrogance as his fingers danced with gentle affection and tenderness on his parrot’s feathers. “Oh, of course, you are right Mr. Billing. We have a common enemy and I think that is why we can actually be friends.”“It was necessary that you experienced everything that you had to go through.”Mr. Billing retorted, his muscles tensed in frustration. “Oh, so you admit that it was intentional. You intentionally got me hospitalized. Isn't that shameful?”Griffith’s lips curled with a smug smirk of satisfaction instead. He didn't have a concern for any of Mr. Billing’s rantings. “Come on, Mr. Billing. Let's not exaggerate situations here. You didn't pass through as much pain as you are making it to be.”Griffith rolled his eyes. “Well, apart from the sharp pain you experienced when you got bitten by the serpent, you were unconscious throughout every other process till now that you are back healthy. It's not like you were crying in pain fo

The mark was truly ugly enough to make anyone scream out of their lungs. Mr. Billing wondered how strangely he didn't feel any pain in that area of his legs and until he saw the mark, he wouldn't have been sure which of his legs was bitten by the snake.Griffith settled back with a deadly air of satisfaction, his lips quirking with a grin of achievement. “Oh! Mr. Billing, like I said before already, you ask too many questions.”“Sometimes all you need to do is to relax, eh? Just relax - you are alive already. At least, that has to count for something, doesn't it?”Mr. Billing was still darting back and forth with fear and trembling.“All of us have the same mark you see on your legs so you are not alone. It is a sign that you have been initiated into our family,” Griffith explained.“Family? You call yourself a family?” Mr. Billing asked, his eyes wide open in terror.“Yes, of course. Or a cult? Or an organization? Whichever you feel more comfortable with. What matters is that you are

A smug smile escaped from Griffith’s lips. “Don't worry, I will show you what I am talking about soon. You don't get it now but you will, I am sure.”“And the mark, does it get to clear off?” Mr. Billing asked again. He wasn't ready to let go of the idea that the mark could be erased. He could imagine how he would cringe at himself seeing the useless mark on his body every day. How would he look at himself in the mirror when he wakes up every morning knowing that he has a very ugly scar on his leg?Griffith smiled in response. “Don't worry about the scar. It's the same for every one of us. Wait a bit, I will show you.”Griffith walked to the door of the hospital room and called out three of his men - Dwight, Uqaman, and Zonam. “Dwight, call you guys in here and I need three of you in here.”The way Griffith called his men made Mr. Billing realize that the hospital room where he was wasn't quite far from the crime organization he visited - in fact, it might just be in the same building

“Are you serious?” Mr. Billing asked, his eyes wide open with interest.“Of course, this is no joke at all. The kind of war that I have with the Greysons would continue with my precious son, Kumar even after I die - it is that serious.”“It's a long story but I will try to break it down for you okay?” Griffith said. This time around, his composure looked nicer and he wasn't laughing and making a mockery of Mr. Billing any longer. He was more patient to explain things to him and Mr. Billing was beginning to feel more comfortable.“You see, the name Jamal which has always been that of my ancestors up to my generation had always been special. I am Jamal Griffith but my great ancestor which originated from my lineage was Jamal.”“He was a great Syrian army - he fought and killed many people for the great cause of freedom for his people from the oppression of neighboring countries who wanted to bully his people.”“Jamal was known all over the world during his time for being one of the bes

“They vowed to do anything in their power to make sure that Idliba doesn't get to own the sword. They couldn't understand why Jamal would choose the youngest grandson when he had other children and grandchildren who were thought to be more mature and capable.”“It was very unfortunate but this led to wars among Jamal’s children and grandchildren. They fought for the sword for many years and possession was exchanged among his heirs for many years.”“On one occasion the war was taken place on a very high mountain but beneath the mountain was an ocean. When the fight got so intense, the sword fell off the mountain and into the ocean and that was how it got lost.”“Many decades, even centuries later, deep-water divers found the sword and extracted it and since then it was hidden in a museum in a land where no man could enter.”Griffith heaved a sigh of relief after explaining the story, his eyes gleaming with a desire to explain.“Wow, that is a wonderful story but I still don't see how i

Mr. Billing watched with intent as the ladies were telling Griffith something but it seemed as if they were still whispering. It seemed like what they were telling Griffith was for his ears alone and not for any other person.Their conversation soon transitioned into a murmur of voices as they whispered words with a flow of urgency and a whisper of secrecy.Mr. Billing remained patient and thought that it was nothing. After all, when did Griffith’s private affairs start becoming his problem? He asked himself before laying back on his bed but checking the wall clock to determine the time he was going to leave the hospital and Mr. Griffith’s whole residence.Almost 10 minutes had passed and they were still whispering words to each other. He wondered what was going on and this time his curiosity was heightened like never before. Mr. Billing's fingers dropped with an inquisitive tap of speculation. Jackson’s eyes were alert as he watched to see that there was no guard close to them that would impede their move. They hid behind the cars, creeping through the shadows with their eyes narrowed with a tense intent to get as far away from view as possible.Jackson then reached a point whe

“Come on, let’s go. We can't just sit here and do nothing after all. We have to do something.”With a grim determination, the guards all filed out of the lobby one after the other, their footsteps resounding through the empty hallways. The tension was palpable in the air as their weapons glinted in the harsh fluorescent light.Their bodies were taut with adrenaline as they headed towards their destination.Alan’s face glimmered with a relieved twinkle of gratitude the moment he saw that the guards had all gone.He then whispered to Jackson. “Hey, Jackson. Call Fred now and tell him to his way to the purple fence area. That’s the easiest route out of here. Tell him to get there as quickly as possible. That’s where Brody would have to go meet him.”Brody was confused, his face darting left and right as he was trying to understand what Alan was saying.Where was he saying that he was going to go? Since when did the plan become that he was going to go somewhere?Alan crouched down, his fa

“No one, I believe. You see what I am saying. What if they already got past this place and they are already heading outside.”“Think about it, I don’t think they would want to escape through the outside. Look at the way that they came in. We didn’t even know. None of us knew until they got to the top floor and killed two guards.”“It’s obvious they are trained so we have to think along the line of the fact that they are more than prepared for this.”“They probably outlined every step of the way before they came.”“Not probably, man. They did, it’s quite obvious.”“I guess it’s a draw right now. Mr. Lawrence already has one of them while they have gotten Brody.”“We must get back Brody, man. That’s the instruction. Mr. Lawrence has ordered a closure of all entry points right now and it is already in process. Everything must be on lockdown until Brody is found.”“We can’t afford to fool around.”“What if they are holed up in one of the offices? We should search each room systematically.

Mr. Lawrence then moved his eyes closer to Della’s face to get a clearer view of what was going on.“Wait, what? You look familiar,” Mr. Lawrence’s eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing into Della with the intensity of a predator sizing up its prey. His expression was hardened as a cruel smile spread across his face.“You look awfully and strangely familiar I must say,” Mr. Lawrence remarked again. He wasn’t sure of whether to keep up with his suspicion or to ignore it. He was sure that there was something about her that was too strange to ignore. It dawned on him that the person that she traced her face to was actually that of Rose Billing, the same woman that he murdered. He paused once more and spoke. “I know who you are, don’t I?”Della’s lips curled very slightly by the side as if she was trying to give Mr. Lawrence the clue that he needed. And Mr. Lawrence picked up the clue. He was shocked by the resemblance that Della had with Rose and even though he tried to ignore it as nothing b

“You are Brody, aren’t you?” Alan asked. The boy nodded in affirmation. Jackson’s grip on Brody’s hands loosened and Brody’s shoulders were relaxed gradually even though he knew subconsciously that there were most likely going to be some problems lying ahead.“I know you,” Brody spoke to Alan. “I saw you the other day when Mr. Lawrence killed Rose. You are Rose’s husband right?”Alan paused as if he was in a deep emotional thought before he then nodded.“Yes, I was.”It was a moment of reflection for both Alan and Brody as they both seemed to have missed Rose.Brody didn’t get to spend much time with Rose but it was obvious that the little time that he had spent with her was more than enough for him to miss her for a lifetime possibly.“And Della, the lady who texted on the phone. Are you her partner? Do you work with her? Where is she?” Brody asked. He was in a hurry to receive answers to his questions because he was still a little bit scared.“She is going to be with us soon, Brody

The air seemed to thicken with tension, the silence broken only by the faint click of gun safeties being engaged.Alan then whispered into his radio, hoping that he was going to connect with Della. “Della, are you there? We are about to open fire on the guards who want to lock Brody in the basement. We are going to need backup, over.”That was all Alan needed to say and he believed that he had said enough already. They moved a few more steps with deadly precision, their footsteps soft and stealthy as they crept closer to the guards. They saw as the guards were shoving and dragging Brody and this time, they were going to lock him into the basement. They were no longer interrogating him about the phone because there were bigger issues to deal with. But Alan and Jackson thought that it was time to raise a response. The guards burst the basement door open and were prepared to shove Brody into a dark room but there was a sudden startling noise of gunfire.Pow! Alan was just a few feet away hiding behind one of the pillars. The moment she saw the harsh slap that was performed against the boy, he gritted his teeth in frustration as he became provoked to cause a disruption. Why would they treat such a young boy like that? He had to hold and keep himself in check so that they would stay according to plan. But considering the way he was feeling, he wished that he could just start a gunfire right away. He began to rethink whether it was best to engage the guards with gunfire right away or if they should wait a while until Brody got locked in the basement and they would try to open it up.Just as he was still having a deliberation in his mind, the guards continued with their harsh treatment toward the boy.“Yeah, right, we are not stupid,” Guard two spoke. “Look at the faces of all of us standing here.”Brody’s face was still facing the ground as he was dealing with the harsh effect of the assault but he felt a hand shove his head back up so that

His heart pounded in his chest as he heard the guards’ footsteps growing closer.Time seemed to be very slow as the guards drew nearer, their footsteps echoing off the walls of the hallway but Alan gripped his weapon tightly just in case the situation was going to demand it.But as they got closer, two other guards joined them. They now seemed to be five and they were discussing.Alan and Jackson were picking up on their conversations.“The boss said to keep him in the basement.”“There are many ways that the boss can get the boy on his side. After all, he is his son. I don’t see why there should be an issue between them.”“The boy is a cool guy to me.”“This isn’t about whether he is a cool guy or not. We should listen to what the boss says.”“Come on, this is not to say that I wouldn’t listen to what he says. I am only telling you as a colleague that there is no need for being so harsh

Fred was ready to go for it all. “If you need our main ID badge, my colleague can go them now. She will get mine too but I was hoping you would already know the company we are coming from. We already have a contract here.”The guard who was talking balderdash earlier scurried into the conversation. “But I haven’t seen you guys before. Especially the bright-skinned darling we have here. I would have known if I had seen her before.”Fred responded. “Well, we are not always the same and I am sure you already know that. Today, it is our shift to come to complete the repairs and as we said, we are actually running out of time.”“My colleague can quickly go and get the ID badges if that is what is delaying us from entry.”Fred was speaking with the hope that the guard was going to shrug off the situation and ask Della not to worry. But he needed to show that he wasn’t hiding something and the only way that he could do that effectively was to pretend as if everything was going fine and as ex
