Joining A Guild

Gavin after spending some time with his uncle left for the town, he boarded a train and sat at the last seat. The ride was smooth and safe, Gavin had tried to stay awake throughout the entire ride but nature did its thing and he couldn't escape falling asleep.

"We've reached."

Through his sleep, he heard someone say out loud and he opened his eyes immediately. He scanned the train and found out that he was the only one remaining with the driver glaring at him and without waiting to be yelled at he rushed out of the train.

"This place is so beautiful," Gavin praised as he kept looking around. He had left the train station and was heading towards a large gate just like the others were doing. Entering inside the gate he could not help but marvel at the sight of the place.

Here, the people were more smartly dressed and the buildings were beautifully structured, Gavin looked around for a while until he saw a line of young men and women and then walked over to one of them.

"Please excuse me, is this an adventure guild queue?" he asked the young man who turned to look at him.

"You look small, are you new here?" the young man asked back.

"Yes I am new, can you tell me about the adventure guilds?" Gavin asked. He had heard little from the villagers about the adventure guilds but he still wanted to know more.

"Hmmm, there is nothing much to say. There are many adventure guilds in this town and the other towns as well but only a few are still functioning. In the adventure guilds, there are rank levels in case you don't know...the 'F' rank, 'E' rank, 'D' rank, 'C' rank, 'B' rank, 'A' rank, 'S' rank and lastly the 'SS' rank...

The 'F' rank is the lowest rank level and for someone like you who is new, you will be given the 'F' rank. 'E' rank follows after the 'F' rank and so is the 'D' rank, 'C' rank and the 'B' rank. The 'A' rank is a high rank and also an official rank, they are mostly the captains of that particular guild.

The 'S' rank is second in command and power. Those with the 'S' rank are the assistant guild masters and they hold almost an equal amount of power to that of the 'SS' rank. You should know by now what the 'SS' rank is all about....they are the guild masters."

After listening to the young man's explanations, Gavin had gotten a better understanding of how the guilds are ranked, he mentally prepared himself to be looked down upon because he will be given the 'F' rank.

"I understand now, thank you for your explanation. So which guild do you plan on joining?" Having not known any guild name, Gavin decided to use simple tricks to know about the guilds in the town.

"Well, we have three main guilds in this town; the dark guild been the strongest guild in town, the hunter guild and lastly the shadow guild. These are the main guilds we have and I plan on joining the dark guild, I'm pretty much strong and my element is ice which is already in the intermediate peak level so I have nothing to lose, oh! guess it's my turn now, bye!"

Gavin watched as the young man left and sighed. He had learned all he wanted from the young man and now his next step is to choose a guild to join.

"He said the dark guild is the strongest guild in town followed by the hunter guild, if that is so then I have no choice but to join the last one which is the shadow guild."

Gavin scanned the whole area until his eyes fell on his targets, the shadow guild. He went over to the line and stood waiting for his turn to reach. There weren't many people on the line and so soon it got to him.

"Kid, what is your name?" the middle-aged lady asked Gavin.

"Gavin is my name," Gavin replied immediately.

"Your age?"

"16, this year."

"what!"

"16 years ma."

"What is a kid like you doing here? does this look like a playing ground to you?" the woman asked almost yelling. " Go back home now!"

"Is this how the shadow guilds treat members that want to join? It's no wonder they remain last year to year," Gavin replied with a look of disdain on his face. He had noticed that, unlike the other two guilds, the shadow guild lacked members and on top of that, the attendant not only does she look ugly and aged, but she also lacked manners. Just like his uncle had told him to not mercy anyone who looks down on him, he decided to punish the shadow guild for having such a dumb person as an attendant.

"The boy is right!"

"I guess so, that woman looks down on people a lot."

"This is why the shadow guild is lacking behind."

Many voices were heard as the people began to talk about the shadow guild. How it was only but a small guild then and how it began to fall slowly. This made the woman start regretting her actions earlier and begin to beg the boy.

"Kid, I'm sorry for the way I spoke to you earlier, it happened that I woke up from the wrong side of the bed and didn't know what got into me," the woman said as she stared at Gavin with a pitied face.

"Your apology is not from your heart, who the hell do you think you can deceive with that despicable act of yours," Gavin said to the shock of the woman. He had seen her type, that pretend that have changed so they can trap their preys but he didn't buy that at all.

"You...."

"What is going on here?"

Someone interrupted the woman in her speech and when they turned around, they saw a group of young men and women approaching them.

"That is the shadow guild."

"They don't even look that impressive."

People began to whisper among themselves but none of these escaped Gavin's ears. He turned and started looking at them carefully; they were seven in number. Three men and four women and all they seemed to be in their mid-twenties.

"I said what is going on here?" the one who seemed to be the leader asked again after he might come close enough to the attendant.

"S-sir it's this little boy over here," the woman said and pointed at Gavin, the young man followed her direction and when he saw Gavin, he creased his brows. "He said he wants to join but I refused because he is only 16 years."

"16 years?" the young man asked in surprise and this time around Gavin decided to reply to him.

"Yes, 16 years but I want to join your guild, is that too much to ask?" Gavin replied throwing a question at the young man.

"Uhm, are you a mage?" the young man then asked again.

"No I'm not but I still want to join your guild, if you won't accept me I'll go over to the other two and force my way in," Gavin said with a determined face.

"Uhm, Fine!"
