Lockheart and Daemon battled against small cactus hybrids in the scorching heat of Desertium. Despite the intense fight, Daemon's stomach growled, a clear indication of hunger. Lockheart, too, had lost focus on the battle and was rubbing her stomach, displaying her own hunger. She occasionally granted Daemon a buff to help him in the fight. Their eyes met briefly, but Daemon quickly turned away, breaking the silence that hung between them.
Lockheart broke the silence by sarcastically congratulating Daemon, "Oh, congratulations, Daemon! I'm so glad we had that sandwich earlier!"
Daemon retorted, "Ah, shut up! At least it gave us extra HP!"
Lockheart gestured toward the caption above Daemon Lockheart's name and applauded ironically, "Yeah, it also gave us a brand new status effect. Look above my head..."
Daemon read the caption, "Nausea."
Lockheart pushed Daemon lightly and said, "Congratulations! You're so annoying!"
Daemon responded by lightly slapping Lockheart's hand away, saying, "Don't touch me!"
Lockheart looked at Daemon in shock and exclaimed, "Did you just hit me?"
Daemon shrugged, "Equal rights, equal fights. You know I'm something of a 'yearner of gender equality' myself."
Rolling her eyes, Lockheart clenched her fist and snapped, "Stop with these weird anime references, you degenerate weeb!"
A steely red glow appeared in Daemon's eyes as he proudly declared, "I take this as praise!"
Daemon pointed his sword at Lockheart and warned, "And unfortunately, I'm strong in this world. So I think you better not push your luck."
Lockheart gritted her teeth in anger but couldn't help but laugh. "D-Daemon! I think you're the one pushing your luck here. It was only yesterday when you and I slept under the same tree because you were afraid of being alone. If you don't want me to tell the other players, shut up!"
Interrupting their brewing conflict, a message popped up in the game. "Wait a second, Lockheart! Before I tear you apart, I need to check the game's messages!" Daemon exclaimed.
Daemon clicked on the menu and navigated to the "events" section, where he read the message: "[Floor 3: Caveland]'s boss is unlocked! Join the fight ASAP! (People above level 35+ can join)"
Daemon looked at Lockheart helplessly and said, "I suppose you know how to teleport now!"
Lockheart rolled her eyes and responded, "Of course I do, Daemon! Do you think I'm stupid?"
Lockheart took out the crystal from her pocket and shouted, "[Floor 3: Caveland]!"
She anxiously waited for the crystal to activate, but nothing happened. "Why is it still not working?" Lockheart exclaimed in frustration.
Daemon pointed above Lockheart's head and explained, "You're still level 34, dumbass."
Lockheart sighed and muttered, "Oh great, then we have to grind even more—"
Before Lockheart could finish, Daemon swiftly activated his teleport crystal, leaving Lockheart behind. Lockheart shouted after him, "Are you going to leave me here again? I swear I'll kill you when you come back!"
Daemon teleported to the boss area, which had an icy cave theme. The frozen walls were adorned with swaying ice shards, and the ground was covered in snow. As Daemon stepped onto the ground, his footprints left behind blue and turquoise particles, quickly filling with snow.
The boss was a massive minotaur wielding two axes, causing ice shards to fall from the cave's ceiling.
Suddenly, the boss started spinning like a valkyrie, unleashing an AOE attack. Daemon recognized it as the boss's special move and realized that people were attacking without any strategy, unable to avoid the boss's attacks.
Many players were cowardly waiting at the entrance of the ice cave, hoping the boss's HP would decrease before they engaged.
Daemon clenched his fists and shouted, "Hey, you cowards! Stop being pussies and fight like everyone else!"
The other attackers of the boss joined Daemon in reprimanding the cowards. Some shouted, "What the hell are you waiting for?!" and "Fight properly or get out of here!"
Feeling proud, Daemon continued, "Archers and hunters, stay at the back and focus on high-range basic attacks! Melee fighters, be cautious and avoid the ice shards. Engage the boss at the front until your HP is low, then retreat near the entrance! Healers, spam area heal spells near the boss and prioritize healing the melee fighters! Buffers and soulmages, use buff and debuff skills instead of weak AOE attacks! This is a single boss, and area damage is useless! As for petmasters... well, your pets should know how to attack on their own, so let them do their thing."
Some of the warriors listened to Daemon's instructions, but the majority continued fighting without a proper strategy. Daemon sighed and drew his sword.
He dashed towards the boss with his usual speed, but this time he wasn't fast enough. When the boss struck the ground with its ax, an ice shard fell upon Daemon. He cried out in pain as his HP bar shifted from green to yellow.
Angered by the attack, Daemon spat on the ground, stood up, and charged at the boss once again. He leaped towards its height, intending to strike it down as he had done before. However, the boss blocked Daemon's sword with its ax, forcing him to land and start circling around the boss. When the boss slammed its ax into the ground, Daemon jumped again, aiming to strike its back while it was distracted by other players.
The steely red glow reappeared in Daemon's eyes, a testament to his determination to defeat the boss.
Unbeknownst to Daemon, he was about to face a traumatic experience. With confidence and hope, he thought, "What could go wrong? I've already defeated the previous boss. If I defeat this one too, I'll prove my strength to the others." However, it wouldn't be long before he would be reminded of the true purpose of survival in this virtual world.
Just as Daemon prepared to launch his attack, a familiar voice called out to him, "Takashi!" Surprised, Daemon turned around and saw a man, Mitsuri, slumped on the ground, his HP bar rapidly depleting and nearing death. Daemon's eyes widened as he recognized Mitsuri, his long blond hair and blue eyes confirming his identity. Mitsuri struggled to speak through heavy breaths, pleading for help, "Takashi, is that you? Please, I don't think I can hold on much longer!" Before Daemon could react, the Minotaur Boss slammed its ax into the ground once more, causing the ice shard above Mitsuri to sway dangerously. Desperation filled Daemon's voice as he cried out, "Mitsuri, move! You're going to die!" But Mitsuri seemed unable to hear Daemon's plea, his exhaustion impairing his senses. He looked at Daemon one last time, seeking assistance, before his eyes slowly closed. Within seconds, the ice shard swung and fell, piercing Mitsuri's body. Then, Mitsuri's form disappeared from the game, his
Morning arrived, casting its warm glow upon the peaceful landscape. Lockheart had found comfort in sleep, lying on the soft grass beneath a tree. As the gentle breeze caressed the surroundings, Daemon approached her and lightly poked her shoulder. "Lockheart, wake up," he whispered. Yawning and rubbing her eyes, Lockheart stood up and looked at Daemon, who wore a bored expression. The events of the previous day flooded her mind, and she cautiously broached the topic. "H-Hey, Takashi... I mean Daemon. Are you feeling any better now?" Daemon nodded silently, his face etched with a frown. Lockheart observed him, searching for any signs of emotional response, but his demeanor remained unchanged. "Lockheart, why the hell are you staring at me?" Daemon questioned, his voice tinged with annoyance. Startled by his reaction, Lockheart quickly averted her gaze and apologized. She decided not to delve into the matter further, aware that Daemon's emotional state when he had cried seemed more
Daemon, Lockheart, and Nyaru sat on the grass of the Main Floor, engaged in conversation. Lockheart appeared weary, her expression marked by fatigue. Nyaru, on the other hand, had lost interest in the discussion and rested her head on the grass, observing the ants crawling on the ground. Daemon took on the role of explaining the cave dungeons on Floor 3 to his companions. He began by describing their first dungeon battle. "We'll be venturing into the Cave Dungeons on Level 3 for our upcoming battle," Daemon started. "As you may know, each cave dungeon has its unique theme. There are ice caves, fire caves, underground caves, and so on. The particular cave we're about to enter is the Undersea Dungeon," Daemon continued, glancing at Nyaru. Nyaru, having abandoned her observation of the ants, turned her attention to Daemon. "Yes, nii-chan?" "If we encounter any enemies in the dungeon that resemble octopuses or have tentacles, make sure to keep your distance. We never know what tricks
The battle against the Sirens intensified as Daemon realized Lockheart's attacks were ineffective against them. Frustration filled his eyes as he glanced at Lockheart, desperately wanting to find a solution. Her wand emitted feeble green lights that barely made a dent in the Sirens' health bars. Clenching his fist, Daemon made up his mind. "Enough, Lockheart! Stop attacking. It's my turn now!" With determination, he leaped onto the boulder, searching for a strategic advantage. Finding a moss-free ledge, he swiftly ascended and positioned himself directly above the Sirens. In a display of acrobatics, Daemon performed a backflip, driving his sword into one Siren's chest upon landing. With a swift kick, he sent the other Siren tumbling down the boulder, where it vanished into oblivion. The echoing sound of its demise resonated through the cave. As Daemon prepared to face the remaining enraged Siren, its screams pierced the air. Caught off guard, Daemon lost his balance and plummeted fi
Lockheart's battle against the Siren reached a critical point as her HP bar turned a dark shade of red, and her MP was rapidly depleting. With the boss still at half health, Lockheart teetered on the verge of succumbing to the Siren's influence. Just as the pleasant melody in her head began to fade, Nyaru rushed to her side, leaving Daemon momentarily. "Sister! Are you okay?" Nyaru exclaimed with concern, her fingers spread open, emanating a red light from her right hand and a blue light from her left hand, which enveloped Lockheart. As Lockheart's HP and MP bars slowly filled up, Nyaru anxiously asked, "Sister, are you okay?" The fading melody was abruptly replaced by the Siren's piercing cries. Lockheart warned Nyaru, "Nyaru, you shouldn't be standing here! The closer you get to the Siren, the more damage you'll take!" Nyaru's smile remained unwavering as she replied, "But sis, we can't defeat the creature if I can't replenish your MP, right?" Lockheart nodded in agreement, and
Daemon, Lockheart, and Nyaru materialized on Floor 4, their arrival marked by a sense of annoyance that hung in the air. Exhausted from their previous dungeon expedition, they had missed the Floor Boss event. Adding to Daemon's frustration was the lingering effect of the Siren's curse, which caused his head to throb uncomfortably. As they teleported, the trio found themselves standing near a bridge that overlooked a river flowing into a vast void. The map of this particular floor was significantly smaller than others, consisting of a single location with an entrance. Nyaru and Lockheart marveled at the sight while Daemon motioned for them to hurry along. Crossing the bridge, they were greeted by the sight of a city. The city on Floor 4 was a charming place with stone park roads, brick houses, and small gardens adorning each residence. Lamps hung above the roofs, casting a warm glow over the surroundings. Compared to Floor 1, the houses had a slightly more modern design, and instead o
Nyaru, Lockheart, and Daemon strolled through the lively streets of Level 4's bustling city, soaking in the sights and sounds of the virtual world. As they meandered, Daemon expressed his desire to find a second sword, prompting their visit to the bar once again. The door swung open, and Daemon ventured inside, leaving Lockheart and Nyaru outside. The bar was abuzz with players engaged in hushed conversations. Lockheart, perplexed by the mysterious atmosphere, turned to Nyaru and voiced her confusion, "Why is everyone whispering?" Nyaru, ever observant, replied with a hint of excitement in her voice, "They're forming guilds before the guild system opens! Most high-level players like Daemon are already at Level 49, and they're preparing for the guild rush." Lockheart shook her head, slightly overwhelmed by the intricacies of the game. As they prepared to enter the bar, Daemon interjected, urging them to wait outside. Closing the door behind them, Lockheart and Nyaru exchanged curious
Teleporting to Floor 5, Daemon found himself engulfed in darkness. He strained his eyes, but there was nothing to see. Nyaru, clutching Lockheart's hand, trembled with fear beside him. In a flash, the entire floor was bathed in a vibrant blue light, revealing a floating circular platform crafted from polished black marble. Daemon averted his gaze from the platform and noticed a series of interconnected circle platforms on Level 5, connected by staircases made of gleaming white marble. Looking upward, he marveled at the sight of constellations glowing with a mesmerizing blue radiance. Some constellations gently floated across the sky, while others remained stationary. As the players adjusted to their surroundings, the staircases vanished, leaving only the central circular platform. It was then that the formidable boss, known as [Floor 5 Soulscapes: Soulhunter], materialized before them. Soulhunter, draped in a flowing black cloak, possessed a skeletal left hand that protruded through
