Chapter 26

Santiago appeared agitated, his face reflecting immense confusion. He knew that languishing in prison was one of the many hardships he had to endure in life. His world had already turned dark, devoid of hope, and the only reason he clung to life was because he still breathed. The rest of the time, he only thought about finding a place to sleep, eat, and relieve himself every morning.

His body remained motionless as Vera resumed her investigation in the room. Santiago pondered repeatedly on what he had just heard from her. "What if I accept your offer this time?"

Vera fell silent for a few seconds upon hearing this, then proceeded to ignore Santiago again.

"What if I rely on you to free me from this garbage place?" Santiago's hands clenched tightly. His words were not just empty talk; he even dared to hope for a better life.

"I'm busy," Vera replied shortly.

"I'm not asking for it now. After you're done with all this, I will--"
