Ezra Echelon Liberation System

Chapter 37: Confessing

After they were done with their meal the servants working at the inn came to collect their plates and clean the whole place. The only thing left now to do was to just lie down and sleep because to be honest, there was nothing left for them to do anymore.

Through the window, Ezra could see that the sun was now setting, a pale redness dying the entire surrounding. Birds were now chirping as they returned to their nests and wolves could be heard howling in the nearby forests. He let out a deep sigh as he turned to look at Mira who was still eating a piece of pork, her eyes filled with greed. She was like a little girl who had not eaten for a long period of time.

"I can see you enjoyed the meal greatly," Ezra said with a smile. "You can't stop licking your lips even after eating."

"Like I said I haven't eaten something like this in my entire life," Mira said with a smile as she finished eating the piece of pork she had been holding. "I can't help it but eat this way. I hope I'm not embarrassing you by eating this way."

"No, no," Ezra shook his head. "You're not embarrassing me at all."

"I thought I was embarrassing you," Mira said. "Back when I'd been in my sect the others usually felt embarrassed the way I ate."

"You're a foodie and they should have accepted that," Ezra said. "It's a behavior you can't change no matter how you try. In fact, you shouldn't even try changing yourself at all and no one should expect you to change."

Mira fell silent for some moments before narrowing her eyes. She then asked after staring at Ezra for some time, "Are you indirectly insulting me?"

When Mira asked that question Ezra didn't immediately answer her. He had learned that women could be complicated creatures and the wrong answer could end up sending a wrong message to her. So he decided to say his answer in a way that wouldn't offend her at all. In fact, he wanted to answer her in a way that would make her like him.

"You've suddenly fallen silent," Mira said. "I was right. You were really insulting me."

Ezra took a deep breath after hearing this. In the past, he wouldn't have cared about what Mira was saying. But after discovering that this woman was willing to put her life at risk in order to fight by his side, he decided to change the way he behaved towards her. Mira loved him greatly and was willing to sacrifice herself for him so there was no need to say hurtful words to her. The worst thing a man could ever do is hurting the woman that loves him genuinely and that wasn't what he was going to do at the moment.

"Mira," Ezra called as he stood up from where he was sitting and walked towards her. Mira who was already sitting on her bed couldn't help but narrow her eyes, wondering what Ezra was trying to do.

I need to take the initiative to confess to her at this very moment, Ezra thought within himself as he stood before Mira who was looking at him in bafflement. With the missions the Echelon system is giving me, I'm not very optimistic about life. I might die any time from now so I need to confess to her so that I wouldn't have lived my life in a waste.

"Mira, there is something I want to tell you," Ezra said with a serious expression. He had never fallen in love with any woman before so he was very much inexperienced in talking to women. Hence he needed to deliberate his words so that he wouldn't say something offensive to Mira.

"What do you want to tell me?" Mira asked. "Because you're making me very nervous with the way you're talking. Have I done something wrong?"

"No, you haven't," Ezra said. "You haven't done anything wrong. It's just that I wanted to tell you something very important."

"And what is that?" Mira asked, taking a deep breath. With the way Ezra was talking, her heart was already racing. She was afraid that he was going to say something hurtful to her.

What if he tells me that he no longer wants to be my teacher? Mira thought within herself. What if he tells me to head my own path? What if he is already tired of me and wants to get rid of me? What am I going to do?

I hope she doesn't get angry after I confess my feelings to her, Ezra thought within himself. She might show that she has feelings for me but what if she doesn't? What if she just sees me as her teacher? What if she doesn't have any romantic feelings towards me?

Due to the fear of how Mira would react towards his confession, Ezra was quite hesitant and didn't say anything for some minutes. This caused both him and Mira to become very tense as they clenched their fists subconsciously. Finally, Ezra decided to act like a man he was and speak up.

"Mira, while growing up I've seen all kinds of women but I've never interacted with them," he began. "This is because their attributes were lacking and they couldn't be compared to you."

When he made this statement he sat on the bed beside Mira and reached out for her hands as he flashed a shy smile, "When the Echelon sect was destroyed I was devastated and had no meaning to life. Even when I got the Echelon system I felt a part of me was still missing. Everything was resolved after I met you..."

Without waiting for Mira to say anything, Ezra continued, "The things you do for me, the way you talk, the sacrifices you've made...All of these have made me come to a very big realization."

When he made the last statement he took a very deep breath before saying, "I love you very much, Mira.”
