Chapter 4

Mark thought his doom would come soon for his grandmother, ma'am Miguel was an expert on this and would tell the difference in a second.

He dreaded the thought of being casted out of the family for bringing a cheap fake gift to his grandmother on purpose. If his father knew, he couldn't imagine what he would do to him.

Ma'am Miguel stared down at Laura and finally nodded. She stretched out a hand, one of the maidservant standing behind her held onto her hand and stood her up.

Everyone held their breath with furrowed eyes to see how this would go.

Laura trusted his husband was sure about the vase being fake, or he wouldn’t make such a fuss in front of everyone. She thought that her husband could at least be held in high esteem this time by her grandmother since he had done a great thing for her. If grandmother’s attitude towards him can improve even just a little, their life would be so much easier. But she was a bit angry with herself for not being able to control herself. What if he’s wrong?

She regretted her move a little more when she saw the looks on her grandmother's face; ma'am Miguel wasn't pleased at all.

Ma'am Miguel took a look at the vase and said.

"It's damn real, everyone. And it's even worth more than millions of dollars."

She glanced at Feran and smirked.

"Thanks so much, Mark, for bringing such an irreplaceable piece. It's really a valuable gift," ma'am Miguel thanked Mark.

Mark grinned automatically. His cheek hurts from all the confident smiles he has put on since Feran called out his vase is a fake. Now he just thought grandma had lost it and didn’t find it was a fake. So he wiped his sweat secretly in a huge relief.

Feran was shocked at first, but after making eye contact with ma'am Miguel and seeing her smile, he understood. It doesn’t matter if he’s right, grandmother will never side with him, a poor son-in-law, instead of her favourite grandchild in front of the family.

Feran sneered in his mind. He doesn’t really care how they thought of him anyway.

"What do you have to say now, dear worthless brother-in-law?" Clara asked.

"He's so audacious. If you weren't the son-in-law of the Miguel family, I would have ordered you to be beaten to a pulp," Mark's girlfriend said.

Laura deeply wished the ground could open and swallow her. Why would she ever trust Feran and even speak up for him? What has gotten into her to make her do such things like this?

"Laura, speak sense into your husband. For crying out loud, can't you control a worthless dog like him?" Damon asked, irritatedly.

Laura flicked open her eyes and hurried forward and said, "please forgive Feran, grandmother. I guess he has been losing his senses lately." Then she pulled him aside, frenziedly.

"You better keep it within you. Don't say anything else, Feran," Laura said in a coarse manner, making sure no one heard her.

“So, why did you say the vase was a fake, Feran, are you ruining my birthday, huh?" ma'am Miguel asked slowly but coldly. In order to protect her grandson, she turned the arrow towards Feran.

Feran silently shook his head. There’s nothing else he could say.

"You've crossed the line today. I'm quite lucky it's only the family members present. I would have made you pay dearly for it if anyone aside from a family member was present when you pulled this stunt. Now, I demand that you apologise to Mark."

Feran stared at her in silence.

"You're lucky you just have to apologise. You've done a lot already. Grandmother is being considerate by merely asking you to apologise so just do that!” Tasha said.

Laura quickly stood beside Feran.

"Laura…"

"Hush, just apologise."

Feran turned to Mark and forced out an earnest look.
