FROM A BILITTLED SON-IN-LAW TO A MULTI-BILLIONAIRE

CHAPTER 4

Bryan stood there not still saying a word, he couldn't believe how everything that had happened today rounded in getting a job, just a small nap he had had that was filled with a traumatising dream, they were now making him feel like he was useless and incompetent. He knew he was not perfect but he didn't deserve to be treated like this.

He had always wanted to get a job, but seeing his level of education, he was worried that it would limit his options. And if he settled down for a low-paying job, his in-laws would surely mock him for it.

The next day Bryan got dressed in his best clothes and started his job hunting. He went to different businesses but none of them had vacancies. The day was long and exhausting, made even worse by the scorching sun. He didn't want to be discouraged, he walked all over town still searching for a job, but there was nothing to show for it.

After his last trial in an automobile shop, he had seen along the road, Bryan was met with disappointment once again. there were no vacancies and he felt like he had just wasted his time for that day. Dejected he turned to head home.

As he got home, he quickly rushed to his room, not wanting to face his mother-in-law. he knew she would berate him for not being able to find a job and he couldn't bear to hear her negative words especially now he was already stressed. He felt completely defeated and collapsed on the bed, a few minutes later he drifted to sleep.

The next day, Bryan woke up early and did all the house chores, he didn't let the disappointment of the previous day stop him from going for his job hunting, he went around searching the whole day, but once again all was to no avail.

The frustration of going from one place to another without anything to show for it was tiring and he needed to talk to his wife to talk to her parents to be patient with him.

That evening, Bryan went to meet his wife and told her how his job hunting was going.

Anita looked at Bryan as he spoke her expression remained inscrutable. She knew she could easily find a job for Bryan but she didn't want him to get a job, and she didn't want to deal with her mother's nagging because she knew her mother wouldn't relent if he didn't get a job.

"Continue with your job hunting Bryan while I call in a few friends to see if there are vacancies in their businesses and places of work".

Bryan nodded and was about to leave when she coarse him into having a quick sex with her, of course, he was tired from the stress of the day, and he knew she would force him if he tried to object to it and he wasn't reading for her nagging especially now so he agreed to it.

It's been two weeks and Bryan's continuous job searching was still fruitless. He was feeling discouraged and frustrated and he knew he had to take a break from his job searching, and at this point, he didn't care what his mother-in-law would say or do about it.

Later that evening, Anita returned home from work and called for Bryan. After he told her about the lack of success in his job search, she smiled and told him she had some good news. Bryan looked at her expectantly wondering what she was about to say.

"A friend of mine is looking for a personal assistant since it has been difficult for you to find a job, I told her there was someone who could do the job perfectly. 

"so you would have to go for the interview tomorrow, and trust me it's a good pay" She Squealed. Bryan looked at her surprised at why his wife was smiling widely, It had been a long time since he had seen her this way, especially happy for him getting a Job she never wanted.

"A her?" he asked as he recalled she had just just said it was a her. She gave him a quizzical look. 

"Yes! It's her, is that a problem?" She asked eyeing him, "You are going there for work so a female employee shouldn't be a problem for you". she said looking at him weirdly.

Bryan was surprised at his wife's behaviour that night, he couldn't help but wonder what she could be planning asking him to go and work for her friend. or was it some kind of test?

He had expected his wife to be against the idea of him working for a woman, as she had always been protective of him even talking to other females, but now she seemed to be encouraging him from taking the job. This left him confused but without saying a word, he left the room to the bedroom to get the clothes for his interview ready.

The next morning came around quickly, Bryan had woken up early. he hurriedly got ready for the day making sure to do all the house chores before heading out. He made everyone breakfast and ate his portion, then got dressed and left for the interview. He felt nervous and excited at the same time not knowing what to expect.

Bryan's interview was scheduled for 8 am, and he was glad he arrived earlier. After a long wait, he was finally ushered into the interview room. 

The interview lasted for a couple of hours and he answered all the questions to the best of his ability and when he was told he had gotten the job, happiness filled his soul. He almost screamed when he heard the salary that was offered to him but withheld himself, it was far from what he had ever imagined. The pay was huge and it was going to do a lot for him.

He got home with a feeling of excitement, the thought of starting his new job the next day was thrilling and he couldn't wait to begin.

When Anita got home, she immediately asked Bryan how the interview had gone and he told her all about it and when he mentioned the salary, she was shocked. 

Her friend had told her the amount she was willing to pay a day before they had met, but it seems she had increased it after getting brilliant answers from Bryan during the interview.

"Congratulations Bryan, this is good" She said smiling, "But," she added a serious look replacing the smile, "You would have to start the job on one condition". She looked at him waiting for his response.

"Condition" Bryan looked at her puzzled by her request for a condition. 

"What kind of condition?" he asked, a nervous knot forming in his stomach, he couldn't imagine what she could ask of him, and he was afraid of what her next request might be.

Bryan's heart pounded as he waited for her to tell him the condition.

"Look, Bryan, For you to start this good-paying job, I would have to be in sole control of your account and finances, I mean you would have to put your paycheck in an account that is in my name."

"What?", Bryan asked, shocked by what she had just said. The "What" had just come out as a whisper, as He steered at her, his mouth agape, dumbfounded by what she had just asked, He couldn't seem to find any words to respond, This was not what he had been expecting.
