CHAPTER 6

Bryan woke up the next morning feeling so groggy. The night before had been a sleepless one as the thoughts of the previous day crowded his mind making him restless.

He glanced at the clock and almost shrieked out when he found out he had woken up late. It was his first day of his Unpaid job and he didn't want to be late. the thought that he was going to be working without anything to show for it made him bitter and paranoid.

He quickly rushed to the bathroom to take a shower and get dressed. He was just to head out of the house when his mother-in-law stopped him.

She stood at the doorway, her arms crossed, looking at him disgustedly.

"Where do you think you are going in such a rush?" she asked, "Who is going to do the undone chores around the house when your gone?"

"Just because you got a job doesn't mean you won't be doing the house chores again, You will have to do the house chores every day before you live."

Bryan didn't respond to his mother-in-law, he just wanted to get out of there quickly, he didn't have the energy for her problems that morning.

As he tried moving past her, she blocked his path and locked the front door.

"You're not leaving this house until you get the house chores done," She said with a stern face.

Bryan knew it was a no-win situation and his mother-in-law was up for trouble, he reluctantly put on an apron and started cleaning the house. He worked as quickly as he could and even after he was done he found out that the front door was still locked.

He knew he was already late, and as he turned to go call her, he saw her standing there with a smug look on her face.

She walked up to him and whispered, "Don't ever leave the house chores undone again, Do you understand?"

With that, she unlocked the door and walked away. Bryan immediately grabbed his briefcase and rushed out of the door.

He reached his workplace and headed straight to his boss's office. Miss Kimberly looked up and asked him why he was late, he told her that he had been so excited over the Job that he overslept. To his surprise, she was understanding and gave him a second choice, and the rest of the day was work.

A month passed as Bryan continued his routine of balancing work and household responsibilities.

He had been paid for his work for that month and as usual, his wife had taken all the money.

When he had asked her for some money for transportation and new clothes, she ignored him completely. He was starting to feel used and underappreciated.

He had further explained to her that he needed new clothes so he could look professional at work and that he needed transportation so he could take the bus and arrive on time. his wife remained unmoved and told him that she had spent all the money on important things and had nothing left.

Bryan was so frustrated and upset. His boss had advised him to change his work clothes and get some more professional clothes, what was he going to tell her knowing fully well that she had just paid him?

He was more pained that his wife couldn't find it in her heart to help him out, At least he needed her to be a little bit considerate to him.

Bryan knew he couldn't continue like this, so he started thinking of ways to make some extra money. The search for a part-time job was not easy, but with the help of a colleague at work, he was able to get one even though it was a difficult and time-consuming task.

He was thankful his work as a Personal Assistant lasted from morning to 4 pm, so he could use the rest of the day to help himself secure some cash.

Bryan found himself strangely grateful that his wife and her family had given him freedom indirectly especially as he could do some part-time job without their knowledge.

A few weeks later, Bryan's Boss Miss Kimberly, started to comment on the shabby clothes he was wearing. Even though she was paying him well, he still looked dishevelled.

When he had explained that his family obligations were taking up all his money, she felt sympathy for him him took him to a boutique, where she bought him a whole new wardrobe, including shoes, watches and grooming products. She told him she couldn't let him continue to look unkempt while working for her.

Bryan was so grateful for Miss Kimberly's generosity, and he started dressing more stylishly to work. Everybody In the office was amazed at Bryan's new transformation, and they couldn't believe it was the same person they had been seeing.

At home, Anita's mother was the first to notice Bryan's dressing but as usual, she didn't see anything new about it, to her he was still the same houseboy she knew.

When Anita noticed Bryan's new look she was surprised. She knew Bryan didn't have any money on his own, so she couldn't understand where he had gotten the money to afford such nice clothes. She felt a twinge of suspicion and wondered if he was hiding something from her.

When she had asked him where he had gotten, he told her that his boss had offered to help him out, since he had looked unpresentable anytime he came to work.

Anita didn't know what to make out of this new information. She didn't want Bryan to look too manly and powerful. She wanted to be in control of him every time.

On the other hand, she couldn't help but feel jealous of why her friend Kimberly was buying stuff for Bryan. She couldn't blame Bryan because she had told Kimberly that he was her cousin, and she couldn't tell Bryan to quit the job because she was benefitting a lot from the money he earned. The only option she had was to let everything slide.

Bryan continued to work as a Personal Assistant and also his part-time job, it was difficult for him but he was determined to continue pushing.

Anita had noticed Bryan's unusual lateness at work. She had wanted some sexual pleasures from him but couldn't find him home.

When she confronted him the next day, he explained that his boss was extremely busy and that was the reason he always came back late. He couldn't tell her the truth that he had taken on a part-time job, because he knew she would never allow it.

Bryan's late homecoming continued and it was starting to get Anita pissed off when she couldn't get Bryan to her beck and call anytime she needed him.

She was starting to suspect that he might be cheating on her with his boss for money and decided to keep close eyes on him, hoping to catch him in the act.

She kept stalking Bryan and later found out that he had taken a part-time Job where he was working that made him come home at night. "How could he take a part-time job without letting her know? It seems like she had given him too much freedom" She thought.

She didn't believe Bryan had even gotten a part-time job and had been working there since. Maybe that was why he wasn't asking her for money for his needs again.

Bryan was shocked to learn that Anita had found out about the part-time job that was his only means of survival. he didn't know how she found out about it. This caused so much trouble for them as Anita accused him of deceiving and lying to her all these why.

He didn't see what was wrong in taking another job to the detriment of his health, but he didn't want to argue with her. He had no choice but to stop the part-time job, luckily for him, they had paid him for that month.

Bryan couldn't understand why Anita was bent on frustrating his wife, Yes, he knew he had married her because she had promised him stability but he knew too that he had tried in his possible ways to help out in one way or the other.

She had acted all good and cool before they had gotten married and he had fallen for her with that but he couldn't understand what he might have done to her be so to mean to him.

Bryan felt so bad that Anita had gotten to know about his part-time job and had stopped him from working there, it didn't make him relent as he continued his job as a personal assistant even though he was gaining nothing from it.
