PRIME MINISTER SON'S BRAIN TUMOR

Sophia was so shocked that she didn't realize she had been standing like a statue for over five minutes.

Once she jolted out of the shock, she frowned.

" What happened to him? Why is he transferring aggression? That wimp!"

She scoffed and walked out of the hospital.

……

The door to the surgical conference room pushed open, and all eyes fell on Slade as he walked into the conference room filled with professional doctors and veterans professors.

Whispers and murmurs followed, as it was a shock to them.

He had never attended a conference meeting.

In fact, after the incident in the operating room where a patient died due to excessive bleeding, he was never allowed to participate in any surgical conference meeting, let alone conduct surgery on any patients.

Then, it was in his past life.

" What are you doing here?" a masculine voice boomed in the room, while every other doctor and professor kept quiet.

" What do you mean?" Slade shrugged as he took his seat, placed his laptop on the desk, and began to jot down what the surgical conference was all about.

" I'm asking you, bastard! What are you doing here?" The masculine voice yelled again, this time with a bang on the table.

" Brother Michael, I'm a surgeon. Isn't it right that I attend this conference?" Slade looked at his stepbrother over his shoulder with a triumphant smile on his lips.

He knew that Michael and Caleb were trying hard to implicate him.

To Michael, he believed that the surgery given to Slade was not successful, and as such, the patient must have died during the surgery due to excessive bleeding.

" What!" Michael couldn't believe his ears.

He didn't believe that Slade, the "motherless bastard," could talk back at him with boldness and confidence.

" Are you surprised that I'm still here? My patient survived the surgery and has been tranferred to the ICU, so be rest assured, brother."

Slade was, in fact, mocking Michael, who instantly turned pale at his words.

Micheal couldn't just wrap his head around what was happening.

This wasn't how he and Caleb planned it.

The patient was supposed to die due to excessive bleeding, only then could Slade be kicked out of Goshen Medical Center, but that wasn't the case.

" What could possibly go wrong?" Michael thought inwardly as he bit the wall of his mouth aggressively.

" If you're shocked about what happened, you shouldn't be, Brother Michael," Slade said, his voice cold like a double-edged sword. " I found out that before the surgery, my patient was given anticoagulant medication, so as to have excessive bleeding during the surgery."

" Who said I did that!"

Michael was quick to defend himself, causing murmurs and whispers to rent the air.

" But, Brother Michael, I never mentioned your name or anybody's name, so why did you assume it was you?"

" You!" Michael gritted his teeth, his eyes bloodshot.

" Leave this conference room now!"

" Can I know what illness this patient has?"

Slade totally ignored Michael and turned to one of the doctors beside him.

" Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). It is a highly aggressive and malignant brain tumor with a 5-10% rate of survival during the surgery." the doctor narrated, heaving a sigh before he continued. " I don't think he will survive even before we take out the brain tumor. It is highly risky."

Slade fell silent for a second as he continued staring at the big screen, which contained the computer tomography (CT) scan of the patient.

He suddenly raised his hand for some reason, causing all eyes to fall on him.

" Do you have anything to say?" the doctor in charge of the conference asked.

" I will perform the surgery."

Slade announced, and murmurs rented the air, which slowly turned into laughter–mocking laughter.

" You are not a neurosurgeon; what makes you think you can take out a brain tumor from a patient who has just a 5-10% chance of survival?" a doctor asked, and the others burst into laughter.

Slade didn't let them get to him.

He remained quiet until their laughter died down before he spoke up.

" In the last surgical conference, you all agreed that if I could successfully save Mr. Kings, I would be given a chance to perform other surgeries. Isn't that the case?" Slade raised an eyebrow.

" Why the change now? You have to be responsible for your promises."

They all began to clear their throats as they hung their heads low.

" Even the best neurosurgeon in Goshen Medical Center is hesitant to take up the surgery," Michael smirked. " Do you even have an idea who the patient is? He is the Prime Minister's only son!"

" Thank you for the information, but I'm not interested in whoever the patient is. All I know is that I want to perform the surgery."

Slade himself seemed surprised at his sudden confidence and boldness.

He didn't know why, but he had a feeling that the Prime Minister's son would survive if he was the one who performs the surgery.

" If he can indeed save the Prime Minister's son, I will resign!"

One of the doctors in the conference room taunted, loud enough for Slade to hear, but he remained quiet.

" We can't give the surgery to him, Doctor Michael. What if the Prime Minister's son doesn't survive it? Our medical center will be shut down!" One of the professors said, and the others nodded, throwing mocking glances at Slade.

Michael remained quiet for a while, before a smirk curled on his lips and he spoke up.

" We should give him the benefit of doubt. He should do the surgery."

Slade smiled, but it was short-lived when Michael went ahead to speak again.

" But, in return, if the Prime Minister's son doesn't survive, you will resign from this hospital forever."

He knew where his stepbrother was heading.

Slade knew that this was another chance to get rid of him by making him take the blame if the Prime Minister's son dies during the surgery.

He remained quiet, with his head hung low, as he thought about it.

Michael laughed in a mocking tone.

" What? Cat got your tongue? Are you going to back out now?"

" I agree." Slade suddenly said, catching everyone by surprise.

" What?"

Michael couldn't believe it.

His stomach twisted in happiness at the thought of getting rid of Slade once he ended up killing the Prime Minister's son.

" Yes. I will perform the surgery, and if things goes south, I will resign and never return to Goshen Medical Center forever."

Slade knew that the weight of his words was significant, and could cost him his future, but nevertheless, something in him kept prompting him to perform the surgery
