Academy Examination (2)

The chains that were holding the [Hound] fell off as the announcer proclaimed the start of match and the monster charged towards me with a ferocious look.

The [Hound] leaped on me as he approached, his mouth wide open, revealing all of his fangs, including two pairs of enormous incisors.

However, before he could bite my sword-wielding hand, I placed my right leg behind my left leg, tracing an arc on the ground, and by quickly twisting my torso 90° clockwise, I effortlessly avoided the hound's assault.

The [Hound], who found himself with an empty mouth a few metres away from me due to his earlier momentum, attacked me again, as I subconsciously ducked, and his forepaw swiped over the crouching me. Though it was only a hair's length away from me.

Finding the obvious gap from below him, I swiped my blade diagonally, and successfully slashed the [Hound], leaving a wide wound on the hound's stomach.

These Hounds or any other monsters, that were used for testing the students in the entrance examination had no magical attacks and were merely physically strong monsters.

They were injected with a medication that rendered them unable to use magic for a period of time while also doubling their physical strength.

As a result, they are the ideal opponent for the students, as no student would be at a specific disadvantage against a physical type monster, and by employing the drug, the Academy could utilise any monster for the test. Making it a mystery for the students, at all times.

The drug they use, was most likely a Magical Overloading drug which is illegal to own for normal Slayers, and only institutions like the AURA Academy are permitted to use it.

The Examiner's goal was not to watch the students defeat the creature, but to see how effectively they could react and battle in the face of a ferocious-looking monster. Of course, if the students could defeat the Monsters, then that was even better.

Knowing what kind of monster was going to be deployed as the opponent, I had already trained Sylvia such that she could kill something like a hound in under 2 - 3 minutes, and I know she'll accomplish exactly that.

This will also help us earn a good rank in the top 20, but not the top 10, which was my main goal in taking the test.

Some people would still ask why I didn't just acquire the lowest position if I wanted to hide my powers, but getting the lowest position even if I wanted to hide my powers for now was just a fool's act.

~Yes!

Those types of folks, in my opinion, were simply plain dumb people who didn't know anything about the world and were living in their own delusions.

Getting the lowest score would not only not benefit me in any way, but it would also inhibit my growth; people would think I am weak, and while it may appear that my strategy was successful, it actually does the opposite.

This was a dog eat dog world where jealousy was ever present. When truly weak people see someone weaker than them, they will try to bully that person and even normal life will become complicated at that time, and if the truth about my powers comes out, I will be branded a fraud.

In the real world, people would accuse me of cheating and point their fingers at me before listening to my lame defence that I didn't want to display my strength.

In anime and novels, those kinds of things appear appealing, but in reality, they draw more attention than simply achieving a respectable position but not the top spot, as that would gain me the favour of many teachers and students.

The top students would perceive me as weaker than them and not a threat, while those below me would either admire me or, if they were jealous, then they will spread it to everyone who is above me as well.

Testing ground 2,

A minute had gone since the test began when Sylvia began fighting the hound.

When she first entered the testing grounds, she couldn't believe what she saw.

It was the same monster that Noah had forced her to fight so many times in the last three days that she could recognise the rhythm of the hound's assault even with her eyes closed.

The past three days were hard for Sylvia, who wasn't used to battling, and throughout the battles, she considered giving up and blaming Noah of being extremely strict with her.

However, She knew, that everything he was doing was for her own good, and also it was her own decision that she wanted to grow as strong as him, if not stronger than him, so that she could always stay by his side and protect him and her mother.

Sylvia was aware of her weaknesses, but she also understood that only Noah could help her get better. Training with him and that bitter tasting tonic was enough of a proof.

Sylvia had done her fair share of online research, but she couldn't locate a single case in which a rank F- was able to rank up to an E- in a week, without the use of any dangerous drugs or a natural treasure.

When Sylvia inquired about the Tonic, Noah informed her of every ingredient and even allowed her to make one for herself.

So she understood that, while the Tonic he provided her was made of premium and commonly found materials, but even after searching for days, she couldn't find anything comparable to it, at this price on the internet.

The supplements she discovered that may assist a person rank up naturally without any adverse effects were 100 times more expensive than this one, and they didn't even have the same remarkable effect.

However, Sylvia did not inquire as to where he obtained the tonic recipe. She understood that if he wanted to tell her, there was no need for her to ask; she also knew that if she asked him, he might even tell her, but she didn't want to come across as an intrusive girl in his privacy.

Nonetheless, she was ecstatic about everything he had done for her.

The more she got to know him and spent time with him, the more mysterious he became; it was as if a shroud of mystery covered him, making him even more intriguing to the innocent lady.

~Grrrrr!

~Boom!

The dog barked and slammed into the barrier, forcing it to wobble and bringing Sylvia back to her senses as she scolded herself for losing sense of deadlines and becoming distracted during a fight.

Sylvia fired another < Magic arrow > at the beast before taking a few steps back. She kept her distance from the hound and was wary of the hound's fire breath.

But the more she fought, the more perplexed she felt, for the [Hound] never used his ability and was instead just more physically stronger that a regular [Hound].

~Swish!

Sylvia eventually realised, as she dodged another assault with a quick movement, that this [Hound] was not like the other Hounds she encountered in the forest.

But it didn't matter; he was still a hound, and no matter what, she had to kill him at any costs since he was a monster.

Stomping on the ground with her right leg, Sylvia cast another spell, causing the sprinting Hound, who had already been damaged in his hind legs earlier by Sylvia, to lose his balance and stop mid-way, giving Sylvia enough time to throw another spell.

< Paralysis >

An invisible wave of magic struck the Hound, forcing him to lose control of his body, which fell to the ground, and before he could regain control of his body.

< Fire Magic - Double Fireball >

Sylvia rapidly casted another spell, as two soccer - sized balls of fire manifested in air and were launched on the hound like arrows from a bow.

~~Awwoooo!

Both Fireballs hit the hound, causing him to scream in pain as he was burned to death.

~Phew!

Sylvia finally let out the breath she had been holding all this time owing to the intensity and adrenaline of the fight.

Even though Sylvia had already slain a few hounds in the last 3 days, but killing one again in this test was somehow more exhausting than killing them in the forest.

// Congratulations candidate Sylvia for successfully hunting down the monster \\

Hearing the examiners congratulating her through the speakers, Sylvia smiled a little and finally left the testing area as the gate opened in front of her.

********

~Cling!

The door opened and Sylvia came out, but even though she looked tired, a bright smile adorned her face.

" Congratulations! "

I spoke a little louder as she came near me.

" I didn't even told you the result "

She said, raising her eyebrows a bit in a playful mood.

" I had faith in you my dear Sylvia " I said and cupped her face with my hands and made her look directly into my eyes.

" N-Noah not in public " She became flustered as she thought i was about to kiss her and so she quickly stepped back leaving my hold.

" So if it's not in public, then it's alright ? " Raising my eyebrows, I asked with a playful smile.

~Cling!

But, as if to save Sylvia from my teasing, the gate of the 3rd training room opened and the boy that was giving the test with us came out on a stretcher and the medics quickly took him away.

Now I see why I didn't remember him in my memories.

~Pfft!

I couldn't control myself as a slight laugh escaped my lips.

"Don't laugh Noah! we shouldn't laugh on someone else's misfortune"

Sylvia spoke like a mother teaching her kids and was looking so funny, that I laughed even more.

"Miss. Sylvia, Oh my beautiful, You successfully cleared this test. So as I promised to you, tonight I would give you a special gift. Even if you want to accept it or not, So be prepared. "

I turned my head to the side and leaned in close to her, whispering and licking her on her ears sensually.

~Ehhhh!!

~Hahahahah!
