Surrounded by Monsters

The greed and irony of human nature is ridiculous.

Greed blinds people, while irony makes them ignorant.

And no matter how hard you try to stop a blind ignorant person, they will continue to run stupidly, seeking their own death.

People preach what they don't believe in or practice themselves, and fight profusely, destroying the peace they aim at by preaching.

Often, you will find the tyrants speaking against other tyrants, than confronting core evil arising from obsolete traditions or rituals.

Kings wage wars against other Kings for protecting the poor, while the poor suffer more because of the war.

Religion spreads messages of peace, Yet, people wage war using religion.

The same thing was going on here.

Looking out the windows of our taxi, we couldn't see anyone heading towards the border.

The highways were even more deserted than usual.

People in Delvon City became so accustomed to not being attacked by monsters that they became ingnorant.

They were willing to stay in their homes and risk their lives depending on the Slayers, who would flee first if they ever saw a monster stronger than themselves.

These People put their lives in the hands of someone to whom they would not even lend 100 primo coins in normal circumstances.

Such was human nature's irony.

We've been moving for nearly 30 minutes since we left the Sunshine Apartments. By now, monsters should have spread throughout the city, destroying buildings and killing people.

At this speed, we'd arrive at the border in about 15 minutes. The government also should have already posted Slayers on the border to stop the monsters.

Everything was going swimmingly, and letting Sylvia waste time was a good thing because the monsters would soon surround us.

The first wave, according to the Regressors' memory, were low level monsters around Rank F and E-, but they always appeared in large numbers, which would be useful to me in carrying out my plan.

With my current strength, the low rank monsters were no problem.

Everything was set now and all I have to do is just wait.

People were constantly uploading videos and news of monsters attacking and killing on the internet, making Sylvia more tense as time passed.

At this rate, Slayers from neighbouring cities will arrive in 20 minutes and it will take them at least 2 -3 hours to calm down the chaos, which was just enough time for me to carry out my plans.

"Don't worry, Sylva, we'll be there in 10 minutes." I patted Sylvia on the back and comforted her.

[ Ding! 8 Monsters detected within 30 meter radius of the host. ]

The system alerted me about the monsters, and a radar map with 8 red dots ahead of us, appeared in front of me.

and, unsurprisingly, a few seconds later.

~screeecch!!

The driver abruptly applied the brakes, and the taxi came to a sudden halt as we all slid forward on the front of our seats due to our momentum.

" What happened "

Sylvia asked in a worried tone.

" M-Monsters "

The scared driver pointed his finger forward, and as we looked where he pointed, what came in our view was a group of eight, rank F [ Yacuruna ].

A Yacuruna  resembled a human, except that these humanoids simply had webbed hands, feet, and green skin. It is said that  if a human was ever captured by a [ yacuruna ] they would begin to transform into one, starting with their skin turning green. 

" Ahhhhhhhhhh "

Sylvia screamed as she saw the monsters and realized that her fear came true and the monsters finally caught up to us, but I hugged her and closed her mouth with my hand.

" Don't worry and Don't be afraid, stay inside here. I will handle this "

I said and took out my sword from the storage ring and got ready to go out.

" Don't go, there must be some other way. "

Sylvia said with a frightened expression. She was facing such a situation for the first time in her life and the fear was enveloping her, making her not take rational decisions.

" There's no other way and didn't I already told you that I am a strong Slayer. These Monsters are just a piece of cake for me, but remember that no matter what happens, don't come out of the car."

I tightened my hug on her to stop her trembling body, hearing my words also gave Sylvia some strength and she finally relaxed a little and nodded her head.

" Good " I said and patted her on the head.

Opening the taxi, I jumped out swinging my sword towards the first yacuruna that was running towards the car and cleanly sliced him in two pieces.

~Screech screech!

The other monsters got enraged after watching one of them got sliced cleanly, but this time they didn't rush irrationally, their instincts were warning them to not go closer, but the hunger for the prey in front of them was slowly overpowering it.

[ Ding! Another 15 monsters detected in the vicinity of the host ]

Suddenly, the System prompted and another group of monsters came behind us.

This was exactly what I needed, the numbers of monsters were enough and now it was finally time to start the act.

I took out some smoke bombs and threw them towards the new group of monsters and rushed towards the remaining 7 from before.

They tried to spew acid on me but I gracefully dodged them with my speed. The sword art was showing its magic as my speed was faster than before, and my moves were nimble and precise, which helped me kill two more monsters in quick succession.

Sylvia was watching me fight the monsters and her fear was reducing little by little. She thought that I could really defeat the monsters, but just when she thought that everything was under control.

~Screech!

She saw 15 more monsters suddenly came out of nowhere, and surrounded me with the remaining 5 from before.

She didn't realize that these were the monsters that I was already aware of and they were the same ones from the smoke.

She thought that these were new monsters and the old one were still inside the smoke.

" NOAAHH! "

She got scared and screamed as she got of the car to warn me.

This was totally out of my expectations. I didn't expect that her fear for monsters was this great and my Safety matter to her this much that she would come out of the car.

I initially wanted to let Aunty Alice get hit by an aftershock of some attack and make her condition worse, but I guess this would work out even better for me.

Sylvia's sudden shout took everyone by surprise and the monsters attention shifted on her.

Realising her mistake she quickly tried to get back in the car but watching some monsters running towards her, made her body paralyzed from fear.

Aunty Alice came out of the shock and saw Sylvia's condition, she quickly got out of the car and tried to get Sylvia in, but alas it was already too late.

As soon as Sylvia shouted, I relaxed my attacks on some monsters and make it seem like I stopped because of the shock from Sylvia's shout, and although nobody would realize even if I intentionally let one monster go, but precautions were always better than cure and I have to be full proof in doing everything without leaving any traces of my plans.

The monster already reached Aunty Alice and swiped his hands towards her neck.

" AUNTY ALICE! "

Shouting at the top of my lungs, I threw my sword at full speed towards the monster, which hit him in the back and his hands got deflected, but it was still able to scratch her on the shoulder.

The sudden loss of sword made me vulnerable to the monsters surrounding me and they were finally able to land a few cuts on me.

I intentionally let them do it to make it seem more realistic and after everything was done I quickly took out another sword and started fighting again with blood dripping down my arms.

" MOTHER!"

"NOAH! "

Sylvia Shouted as she saw her mothers condition and saw how I got hurt by monsters without my sword.

She quickly pulled her mother in the car and started crying and blaming herself.

Now this was the result I wanted all along.

Confirming that all my plans were flawlessly executed, I also started increasing the intensity of my attacks, and within a few minutes, I finally killed the last monster with a stab through his heart.

" Noah! are you okay? "

Sylvia spoke as soon as I entered the car, I was bleeding a little but the injuries weren't anything serious.

She was speaking in her real voice without realising it, but I decided not to point it out for now.

" Its fine Sylva, just some cuts. They would be healed with a healing potion. Here, give one to aunt Alice too. "

Saying that to Sylvia, I gave her a health potion for aunt Alice, that although was a real potion but wouldn't have any effect on aunt Alice due to her weak constitution, and then turned towards the driver who was still in shock from what just transpired.

" Lets leave fast, Mr. Driver. "

My voice brought the driver out of his shock and he quickly started the taxi and drove away in full speed.
