Chapter 5: Right Before my Eyes Part - II

Flames blazed violently, as dark thick smokes were rising to the sky which was now painted in an orange tint. The sounds of attacks and explosions rung in my ear. People running around like wild animals, screaming for their lives.

I frantically looked around, but there was nothing but the ambers rising from the ash of burnt-down houses. The heart-wrenching cries of people who were hurt or were trying to help their loved ones. Something about the whole ordeal made me weak in my stomach as my legs gave out and I became one with the ground.

Before I could get my thoughts straight, sharp tinnitus rang in my ears, and I found myself flying across the dirt till my body was impacted by something beside me. I coughed with pain in my torso, as drops of blood came out of my mouth and fell onto the ground.

Barely mustering enough strength, I moved my head and saw a group of men approaching me from the horizon. My vision wasn't clear but I could tell that they weren't friendly at all.

These were the people who were responsible for what was happening. All those wails and cries, these bastards killed those people. Shedding blood, taking lives, burning this whole town where I grew up like it was nothing.

But why?

Why this place out of everywhere? What did we even do?

This is such a small and peaceful town. It used to be brimming with life. Most of the people were acquainted with each other since this was such a small town. The jolly sound of children laughing turned to the painful howls of people hanging onto their lives.

"There! It is there!!!" I noticed one of the silhouettes pointing towards me. There wasn't enough energy in me to even move my body. Lying there like a corpse, I saw the whole thing unveil before my eyes.

I'll kill them.

I'll make them pay hell for this.

Another man walked out from the group of men and stopped right before me. I could see the dirt smudged on the surface of his shoes. Grabbing my hair, he picked up my head. I couldn't see anything clearly except a dark shadow of a man before my eyes.

I could feel his rough fingers against my cheeks as he chuckled and said, "Alert the other squads. We have sighted our target."

Me?

All this because they wanted me?

This all happened because of me?

These burning houses. Those corpses. That blood pool. It's me. I'm the one.

"Immobilize him. Quick!" He stood up and ordered as one of the other men started walking towards me. I could see a faint pink spark starting to wrap his arm.

Dammit!

I don't want to die. But this town was in the dust just because of me. So many innocent people lost their lives just because of me.

I killed them.

God no! Please no!

I never wanted to kill anyone. Someone, please save me!

An attack discharged from his arm and everything around me seemed to be moving slower in time. I wanted to run and dodge, but my body wouldn't support me. An explosion erupted before my eyes followed by the sound and shockwave which blasted a lot of dust in the air.

 I deserved to die.

"What the…!?" There was panic spreading across those groups of men as this attack caught them off guard. The cloud of dust started fading away and I could see a petite figure standing before me with their arm extended in a manner to gesture that she was going to protect me.

"I won't let you have him." A high-pitched voice said.

"Woman, stay aside otherwise we'll have to clear you out of our way."

"I'm not letting you do that!!" She revolted against them as shots of fire blasted off her arms. A whole commotion spread across them, as she stepped back towards me, "Kigan! Run… get away from here."

She turned back and her azure eyes pierced into my soul. The flames dancing behind were illuminating her silhouette momentarily. It was her. Her messy hair was flying around as she started attacking them without second thoughts. Despite her frail body, she was stronger than it seemed.

"This lady is crazy… someone…"

"Run far from this place… Kigan!!!!" Grabbing my arm, she fired her last shot which impacted one of their men, as I heard him curse under his breath, "Bitch…"

"Sir! Are you alright?"

"Ok, kill her and take it from her." He said with pure contempt in his voice as one of the men questioned him, "Sir?"

"Do I have to repeat myself?"

"No Sir!" All of them lunged at us. She tried grabbing my arm and making a run for it but they were fast enough to attack us with a windblast which made her off balance and she fell down.

Her fingers still latched around my wrist while one of the men started dragging her by her hair. She screamed in pain. She tried to fight back but physically those men overwhelmed her. She didn't let go of me.

"Get that thing." One of the men said as another started approaching me. Before he could separate her arm from mine, she extended her neck and bit him in the arm. The man staggered back in pain. The man who was holding her hair punched her and slammed her head to the ground.

Her terrified screams resonated in my ear. The woman tried to fight back against those animals. Her frail limbs moved around crazily but all in vain. She cried, cried a lot for someone to save her. She screamed till her lungs gave out. But there was no one.

"It's all your fault!" She suddenly turned towards me and spouted with a look in her eyes that I've never witnessed before.

It was pure contempt.

"They are doing this to me because of you."

"You're nothing but a burden to this world. I hope you're never born!"

"But… I didn't do… It's not my fault. Please!" I couldn't even speak properly.

"Help me! Please!!! Someone, they'll kill me!!"

"Kigan!!"

"Kigan!!"

"Save me Kigan!!"

"It's all your fault Kigan!"

"Just die already Kigan!!

"Please save me from them, Kigan!! I beg you. Someone help me!"
