Chapter 5: Shop

As soon as the cockatrice felt Leo touch it's neck, it wriggled with even more intensity and finally yank it's beak free.

It turned hatefully towards Leo who had hit the dash. The bird feeling wronged, screeched loudly and immediately gave chase.

The bird took powerful stride it's feet kicking up dust. Leo wasnt that fast and with it's pace it was going to catch up quick.

Leo had never ran so fast in his entire life. The sounds of the cockraice approaching was a good motivation.

He just needed thirty seconds. Thirty seconds and his ability would take effect.

Leo could hear the bird even closer now, despite the headstart the bird was slowly catching up

He was panting wildly and his chest was burning in exhaustion, but he kept pushing

“You stop you die” he yelled to motivate himself, but he couldn't keep running at top speed for long.

Leo then spotted a tree at a distance and decided to run towards it. The cockraice followed kicking up the gear, it beak on the verge of clamping down on Leo.

But Leo suddenly went low the bird missing it's target.

 It raised it's head, saw a tree and tried to stop, but it was too late, it's body slammed hard into the tree.

Leo had purposefully lured to the tree and rolled away at the last moment.

Leo sat and watch the cockatrice struggled to get up. It was dazed and hurt, but it seemed drunk by adrenaline. As soon as it's eyes caught Leo it screeched in a hateful manner.

Leo didn't react only letting out a grin of satisfaction. “It time.”

Just as the cockatrice was about to charge, its feet exploded and the chicken fell with a cry.

His neck followed almost immediately, and the bird head blasted forcefully out of it's body. 

 Leo wasn't as close as he was to the target like when he first used it on the tree, so the shockwaves didn't hit him.

He watched as the cockraice charred body fell to the ground. Smokes oozing out of it, the burnt flesh almost smelling like roasted chicken.

Leo stood to his feet feeling a sense of victory. He hadn't died, and his plan had worked perfectly.

He knew it was a close call, if it wasn't for the tree, he would have lost his head.

Leo then watched as the cockatrice body then dissipated into light.

A mechanical sound then rang and a notification from the system appeared before him.

[Cockraice have been defeated]

[Level Up]

[You have awarded with +5 power point, a Power Stone, +5 coin, 2 pieces of meat and a cockraice boot]

“Nice.” Leo grinned, but then the system rang again.

[Title: Apocalypse Baby is now taking effect]

[Reward doubled]

[You have received additional +5 Power Point, Power Stone, +5 coin, two pieces of meat, and cockraice boot]

“So this was the effect of the title.”

Leo grinned heartily, it really was a privilege, he got a repeat of every reward one would normally get.

[All of his reward are available in your inventory.]

Inventory? Leo asked, and the system brought up a wide box in response. This box made up of even smaller box, and in the first row, all his rewards were lined up.

Leo first took out the Power Stone stone first. It looked like a regularly stone but red in color.

[Power Stone (D): Intelligence]

[Break to raise intelligence by two point]

Leo lips parted and he grinned before he hurriedly used it. The power stone look thick, but the moment he squeezed it cracked like an egg. 

Leo watched as his mana point rose by twenty point. It seemed a single point in intelligence, equates ten points to his mana point. 

Since his title gave him an additional power stone, he used the second one as well and watched as his MP rose by forty point.

Next, Leo took out a piece meat and Leo realized it was the cockatrice meat from the aroma. 

It was already cooked too, and Leo wondered if it was his ability that the cooking or the system. 

Leo was hesitant to eat it, but his stomach grumbled urging him on

In the real world he hadn't eaten that morning and didn't get to eat lunch either because of his cheating girlfriend and the descent of system.

Leo bit into the meat and it tasted was heavenly. It was even seasoned which meant it was the system at work. Leo ate two more pieces of meat and left the last one for later. 

Leo then took out the golden coins and as usual a description popped up.

[Coins: Could be used to buy item, equipment, consumable or weapons in shop.]

“Shop...there's a shop?!”

Leo exclaimed, and the shop panel opened.

Under the shop were five different category: Cosumable, Clothing, Weapons, Equipment and Items.

Leo scanned through and saw it had different things like blanket, sweaters, a bowl or rice, soup, swords, dagger they were all there all in their own category. 

But when Leo eyes fell on the prices, his expression turned into a scowl.

A bowl of rice cost 500 coins, Sweater 1000 coins, Dagger 10000 coins.

Leo pressed his lip and shook his head. They were way just too expensive. 

Killing a single cockatrice had earned him a mere ten coins and this was even because he had the special title. 

If he wanted to eat a single bowl of rice, he was going to have kill fifty more cockatrices. 

Was a bowl of rice worth going through all that danger?
