“Damn it!”
A man slams both his hands on the mahogany table in front of him. His face was fuming with anger.
“Sir, we-”
“Don’t give anymore excuses! You’re all just a bunch of useless bastards. We almost had him!” The man barked at his underdogs.
“We’re sorry sir.” Five men said, synchronized. They were trembling, afraid of what their boss would do if they went beyond the line and ruffled his feathers.
The man rubbed his temple. So far, he has not been having a good day. First, the stock market dropped. Then, he had a call from the big boss, threatening to put his job on the line if he failed to catch the one and only Konnor Fumiko.
“Do you all understand how important it is for that pain in the ass to be in jail? My job is on the line! If I am unemployed, all of you would be too! Then what? Do you want to spend your life on the streets, begging for money?” The man yells again.
The other five men in the room remained silent. Although they didn’t like how their boss was treating them, they preferred to walk out of the room alive.
The boss picked up his cigar from the table and lit it. After taking a puff, his muscles relaxed a little. After the second puff, his bubbling anger diminished.
“We have one week to prove ourselves worthy to be part of this team. Do you understand me?” The man asked as he placed his cigar into his mouth once more to take another puff.
“Yes, sir. We will make sure the job is done in 7, no, 5 days.”
The man nodded in satisfaction. “Please, make sure this time, he won’t get away.”
The five men nodded and scurried out of their boss’s office.
After a moment, a mobile phone rang. The man casually took it out from his pocket and answered the call.
“Officer Louis speaking.”
“Ah, Louis. It’s been a while, good friend.” A familiar voice said.
Louis’s eyes darkened. Why was he calling?
“It surely has. May I ask why you’re calling such an insignificant person like me?”
The voice chuckled in amusement. “Insignificant? No, you are part of the big plan I have in mind.”
Louis raised his eyebrows. Plan?
“Now, sir, you’ll need to elaborate on that aforementioned big plan if you require my assistance. And must I remind you, I have a pretty hefty price tag on my service.” Louis replied cautiously.
“Calm down, Louis. I know you are expensive. Don’t worry, you won’t be disappointed by the benefits I’ll offer and I might just slip in your own request if I’m satisfied. You are only required to do a simple task.”
Louis smiled crookedly. “Now, we’re talking. Please explain the task. I’ll do my very best to help you, as long as I don’t get into trouble.”
“You’re in charge of capturing the criminal, Konnor Fumiko, right?”
“Yes, you are indeed correct. How did you know?”
“How and where did I get this intel is none of your business. All you have to do is to send him to me when you succeed.”
Louis furrowed his eyebrows, forming a crease in between. “He needs to be in jail, sir.”
“Oh, I know. Don’t worry, just tell me when he is in your hands. I’ll make all the arrangements after. Do we have a deal?”
Louis pondered. Will this cause him to lose his job? Well, the man did say he would satisfy all his requests. Perhaps, he could trust him?
“Fine, I will. Just remember what you promised me. Or I will expose your plan to the world.”
“Good choice, Louis. I look forward to our cooperation. Don’t let me down.”

Konnor was back at his shabby house. Well, at least for him, this house is lovely. All he had was a lousy mattress, a barely working bathroom, a few expired biscuits and a bag full of items he stole over the years.
His house was never permanent. He had to look for a new place to stay every few months because of his occupation. That way, the police have little to no chance in finding him.
“Finally! Home at last!” Konnor screamed at the top of his lungs. Which proved to be a horrible decision since his neighbour yelled back, “Shut up!”
Oh well, nothing will make him fall into a bad mood today. Once again, he managed to run away from those pesky police officers. What’s there not to celebrate?
Just then, there was a knock on his door.
Tok tok tok
Konnor immediately grabbed his knife. Normally, after his neighbour yells at him, he would leave him alone as long as Konnor doesn’t make a peep sound.
Who’s at the door? Konnor thought to himself.
Slowly, Konnor creeped towards the door. The person on the other side is clearly an impatient person as the door was knocked on again.
Tok tok tok
This time, Konnor leaned against the door, with one hand holding his knife and another holding the doorknob.
It’s okay, Konnor. We escaped the police today, and made sure no one was following us. Konnor mentally prepped himself.
As Konnor opened the door, he pointed his knife towards the unwelcome guest.
“Konnor, is that you?” A soothing voice called out.
Konnor’s jaw dropped in shock. His eyes travelled up and down the person’s body before letting go of his knife.
CLANG!
“Rachel? What are you doing here?”
Rachel looked at him with mixed feelings. On one hand, she was happy to see Konnor again. On another, she wanted to throw him down the building for all he did in the past few years.
“Konnor, it really is you!”
Konnor reached out his right arm and grabbed Rachel, before pulling her into his rundown apartment. After looking left and right, he shut the door at the speed of light.
“Rachel, what are you doing here?”
“What? Are you not excited to see your twin?”
“What? Are you not excited to see your twin?” Konnor shook his head furiously. “On the contrary, actually. It’s been a while since I met you. How have you been?” Rachel raised her hand and slapped Konnor’s right cheek. Hard. Konnor stood stupefied. That was the first time his twin has ever laid hands on him. “Rachel! It’s been so long since we’ve last met, and this is how you greet your twin? Mind you, I am 3 minutes older than you.” Rachel looked at him dead in the eyes. “Oh so you do know you’re older. I thought you completely forgot about it.” Rachel sarcastically retorted. “Rachel, are you out of your mind?” Konnor asked in horror.
“What do you mean? Do you want to be annoyed by those police officers?”Rachel raised her eyebrows, but did not answer him. Instead, she pulled out an envelope from her pocket and passed it to Konnor. He took the envelope cautiously, as if it were a bomb that can explode any moment.“What’s this?”Rachel nudged him. “Open it.”Gently, Konnor opened the envelope. Due to it being in Rachel’s pocket for a long time, there were a lot of creases on the envelope. As soon as he opens it, he spots a pale pink card, with the words, ‘You’re Invited!’“A birthday party? Really, Rachel?”“What the- Read the ca
Rachel snorts. “Try your best? It’s compulsory! I already told Alderic that you’ll be attending, so if you bail on me, I will kill you for real.” ~ ‘Should I, should I not?’ Konnor fiddles with his thumbs. Tomorrow will be Rachel’s engagement party and he still doesn’t know whether or not to attend it. He is a very indecisive person, at least that’s what his parents always tell him. When he was younger, his parents used to take him and Rachel out for ice cream once every month. Rachel would easily pick out her favourite ice cream flavour and a few toppings. On the other hand, he would be stuck choosing the flavour he wanted that day. Most of the time, his indecisiveness would cause the line to be held up. Konnor sighs. ‘Why is it so difficult to make a de
Konnor just walked into the first aisle and pretended to be a patron in the store. He picked up a blue box and opened it. It was an empty box. ‘What a nice empty box.’ Konnor placed the box back to its original position. He continued walking down the aisle with his hands in his pocket. He casually strolls around the store until his eye catches an interesting thing. A Pokémon card. An ultra-rare Pikachu Illustrator card. Konnor immediately took it. ‘Oh my god, no way!’ Konnor contemplated whether or not to put it in his pocket and just exit the store. After all, he’s been wanting to complete his collection in a very long time.
“My father thinks I am a spoiled brat, for your information. Even if you don’t believe me, it doesn’t change the fact that his annoying face is clouding your perceptions about good and evil.” Konnor pats her head. “I see what the problem is. Your father accidentally lashed out on you one time and said horrible words. Then. you took it to heart and decided to leave your family.” “No! I am not a sensitive person like what you said-” “Listen to me, Isabella. A lot of people yearn to have parents who care for them. You, on the other hand, are lucky to have parents who are still here to pour their unconditional love. Sure, they might have said a thing or two that makes you feel betrayed. But we are humans, and humans make lots of mistakes. That’s how we progress in life. The bigger the mistake or failure we make, the
Louis believes he is a good police officer, a great one even. When he was still in the police academy, he always came out as the top student, whether it was in academics or physical fitness. He graduated as the valedictorian and didn’t need to pay his student loans. When he started working, he always did everything instructed by his superiors and never failed a single one yet. However, this time, it seems like he might lose his streak, and possibly his job. “More than 36 hours have passed, and none of you have any news yet?” The men in the room shuffled nervously. All of them looked like zombies with their prominent dark circles underneath their eyes. They barely have time to finish their daily tasks, how could they think of sleeping? “No, sir,” one of them spoke. Lo
“My boss, a friendly acquaintance of yours I believe, told me to recite these exact words. Time is running out, Louis-bug! If you want your prize, speed up, will you?” The unknown man cackles as he holds his stomach. “Also, the boss said he would like to meet you.” Louis nods, hiding a slight chill after witnessing the unknown man laughing. Honestly speaking, he should have expected this to happen. The unknown man’s superior is frightening to say the least, and his employees should be somewhat similar to him. The unknown man struts towards Louis and whispers into Louis’s right ear. “We’ll be waiting, Louis. Expect a text message from us.” Louis gulps as the unknown man winks at him before heading out of the office. Louis lets out a sigh. “Sir, who was that?” Daniel a
“I still have nothing to wear!” Konnor says in realisation. He is currently having his dinner in a convenience store. No, he did not steal anything. He found a $10 dollar bill lying in the thrift store from earlier, so he conveniently slipped it into his pocket. What? That’s literally his occupation. With that $10 dollar bill, he got himself some instant noodles and a bottle of water, leaving him $5 more for tomorrow’s breakfast. While enjoying his dinner, he realises that he has nothing to wear for tomorrow’s event. Konnor checks for the time using his wristband. “It’s 8 now. I still have 2 hours left before the mall closes.” Konnor slurped his noodles hurriedly, gulped his water and rushed out of the store. He runs to the nearest shopping mall and unfortunately, it
