Louis believes he is a good police officer, a great one even. When he was still in the police academy, he always came out as the top student, whether it was in academics or physical fitness. He graduated as the valedictorian and didn’t need to pay his student loans. When he started working, he always did everything instructed by his superiors and never failed a single one yet. However, this time, it seems like he might lose his streak, and possibly his job.
“More than 36 hours have passed, and none of you have any news yet?”
The men in the room shuffled nervously. All of them looked like zombies with their prominent dark circles underneath their eyes. They barely have time to finish their daily tasks, how could they think of sleeping?
“No, sir,” one of them spoke.
Louis rubs his forehead using his knuckles. “Please tell me, why?”
“We are trying our best-”
“Your best? You call this your best?”
“Sir, we understand that you’re anxious, but there is no need to raise your volume towards us.”
Louis looks up to the man who spoke. His eyes trailed from his face to his name tag which read, ‘DANIEL’. If he was not mistaken, this man reported for duty only a week ago.
The other men in the room felt their heart skip a beat. They could see their life flash beyond their eyes as Louis smirks.
“Daniel, would you mind repeating what you said?”
“I said, there is no need to raise-” Daniel spoke. His colleague beside him nudged him urgently, signalling him to stop speaking if he valued his life.
Daniel gulps as he broke into cold sweat. However, he stood with his head high as he believed he was in the right. No matter how angry his superior is, he should not be raising his voice.
Oh how terribly wrong he is!
“I should not be raising my volume? Fine.” Louis spoke in a normal tone.
“Daniel, have you memorised the police handbook?” Louis asks as he stands up from his seat.
“N-no sir, I hadn’t got the time-”
“Rule number 2064, a police officer must always adhere to his superiors regardless of the instruction. If he or she fails to do so, the aforementioned superior will give punishments as they see fit.”
Daniel widened his eyes and gaped. What rule is this? It’s clearly biassed towards superiors only.
“Sir Louis, I believe Daniel didn’t know-”
“Shut it. No more excuses. When I instructed all of you to catch Konnor, you couldn’t do it. Sure, I scolded you but I gave you a chance to rectify your mistakes. And when I asked for progress, what did all of you give me? Don’t raise your voice? Are you sure you graduated from the police academy?”
Louis clenched his fists. His anger is rising dramatically, and talking to them was definitely the main contributor.
“I raised my voice, what’s wrong with that? Are all of you police officers or babies? Answer me!”
All five men stood up straight and saluted their superior. “We are police officers, sir!”
Louis took the folder one of them was holding and threw it onto his table. The men flinched.
“Explain your progress, right now!” Louis yelled, expressing his anger and anxiety at the same time.
“Yes, sir. Recently, we have been trying to implant a GPS tracker on Konnor.”
Louis laughs. “A GPS tracker? How do you implant one if you don’t know where to find him, hm?”
The man widens his eyes in realisation. What his superior said was plausible, and it was something he had never thought of before this.
“I can’t believe I am leading a bunch of idiots!” Louis roars in anger, slamming his hands onto the table. His eyes burn with rage, like a dragon forced to wake up from its long slumber. Louis reaches out for his chair and lifts it up. Just as he was about to slam it onto the ground, a knock on his door was heard.
“Come in.”
The door creaks open and a man walks in. He is wearing a formal navy blue suit and an earpiece inside of his ear. He looks like an established tycoon, who should be sitting on his swivel chair on the 50th floor of his company building.
“Who are you?” Louis asks as he places the chair back onto the floor.
“Unfortunately, I can’t disclose my identity. I do have something to show you, though,” the man replies as he shows a blue marble to Louis. Realising what it is, fear crept onto Louis. The unknown man has quite the background.
The unknown man walks around the office, inspecting the room meticulously. “You’ve got quite the temper, Louis. You should control it if you don’t want your underlings to run away from you,” the unknown man mentions as he spots a few pieces of paper scattered on the floor.
“What brings you here?” Louis spat, feeling pissed at the comment.
“Oh right, I’m here to bring you a special message from an even special person. Are you curious?”
Louis stares at the man intently. He was not curious at the very least. But, he can’t answer that can he? Otherwise, it’ll be a breach of the agreement he had with the unknown man’s superior. And that would be a dangerous thing to do.
“Calm down, Louis. I was just pulling your leg,” the man chuckled as he leaned against the metal cabinet at the far corner of the room.
Louis remained quiet as he observed the unknown man, trying to ignore the bubbling nervousness growing in his heart. He didn’t know what to expect because this unknown’s man superior is crafty and unpredictable. His employees should have the same personality.
“My boss, a friendly acquaintance of yours I believe, told me to recite these exact words. Time is running out, Louis-bug! If you want your prize, speed up, will you?” The unknown man cackles as he holds his stomach.
“My boss, a friendly acquaintance of yours I believe, told me to recite these exact words. Time is running out, Louis-bug! If you want your prize, speed up, will you?” The unknown man cackles as he holds his stomach. “Also, the boss said he would like to meet you.” Louis nods, hiding a slight chill after witnessing the unknown man laughing. Honestly speaking, he should have expected this to happen. The unknown man’s superior is frightening to say the least, and his employees should be somewhat similar to him. The unknown man struts towards Louis and whispers into Louis’s right ear. “We’ll be waiting, Louis. Expect a text message from us.” Louis gulps as the unknown man winks at him before heading out of the office. Louis lets out a sigh. “Sir, who was that?” Daniel a
“I still have nothing to wear!” Konnor says in realisation. He is currently having his dinner in a convenience store. No, he did not steal anything. He found a $10 dollar bill lying in the thrift store from earlier, so he conveniently slipped it into his pocket. What? That’s literally his occupation. With that $10 dollar bill, he got himself some instant noodles and a bottle of water, leaving him $5 more for tomorrow’s breakfast. While enjoying his dinner, he realises that he has nothing to wear for tomorrow’s event. Konnor checks for the time using his wristband. “It’s 8 now. I still have 2 hours left before the mall closes.” Konnor slurped his noodles hurriedly, gulped his water and rushed out of the store. He runs to the nearest shopping mall and unfortunately, it
“Here, I have one. My sister told me she designed this suit under the theme Dusky Retro, something she would like to see men wear if she was born a millennium ago.” Zheng Yang removes the suit from the cloth bag and reveals a grey suit. “What colour is this?” “Uh, hold on. It should say here in the tag- Charcoal grey,” Zheng Yang replies as he checks the tag attached to the suit. Konnor smiles giddily. He couldn’t believe his luck! This was the exact same colour he was looking for. “Do you mind if I have a look?” Konnor asks politely. “Sure, go ahead.” Zheng Yang places the suit in Konnor’s hands. The suit is by far the most mes
When Konnor was younger, he always thought he would be the first to settle down with a family. He always had a dream to do so, unlike Rachel. She would always be disgusted when Konnor starts talking about marriage when they were in their teenage years. Rachel never believed in love and matrimony. She thinks they are pure obstacles to achieve her dream. Now who would have expected her to tie a knot before Konnor? Konnor sighs as he gently swirls the wine in his glass. He arrived at Rachel’s engagement party 30 minutes ago but he has yet to see Rachel and her fiance. “Hey, Konnor!” Konnor turns around to see his twin standing in front of him. Konnor gasps in amazement. Rachel looks like a living fairy, with her beautiful air force blue dress. It is a flowy
“Even your name sounds romantic. Konnor, are you single?” Konnor looked at Sarah, flabbergasted. Why is she suddenly asking this? “Yes, I am-” “That’s great! I have a chance!” Sarah squeals. Konnor opened his mouth in amazement. This is the first time someone is openly confessing to him. “I-uh, I appreciate your sincerity. But I don’t want to be in a relationship right now.” “No worries, Konnor! I’ll chase you until you change your mind,” Sarah replies as she skips away happily. Konnor just shakes his head. He wasn’t expecting to gain another admirer. Clearly, she doesn’t watch the news often. Otherwise she would be stayin
“You even kept up with the time? You’re too nice, Konnor.” Konnor groans. He decides to ignore Sarah and her antics. He didn’t want to ruin the liveliness of this party just because of her. Rachel and Alderic come back and take their seats respectively. At the corner of his eye, Konnor sees Rachel’s eyes glimmering in tears of happiness. A gentle smile etched onto Konnor’s face. “I’m finally engaged with the love of my life!” Rachel whispers to Konnor. Konnor merely smiles and pats her head lovingly. “Rachel, we should get ourselves ready for the next event,” Alderic says as he looks at his fiance tenderly. Rachel nodded shyly, and allowed Alderic to guide her towards the back stage. Meanwhile, Sarah and Isabella follow them from behind. Konnor found this parti
“What’s the commotion outside?” Rachel is currently fixing her makeup. The next event involves friendly games among the guests. So, she had to change out of her long gown into a more casual outfit. Of course, being the star of the day, her casual outfit has to be impeccable. She opted for a long-sleeved baby blue shirt and a pair of white jeans. She also had a long vest as the icing of the entire outfit. “It seems like the police officers are trying to restrain someone, miss,” the makeup artist replies as she applies some lip gloss onto Rachel’s pale lips. “How dare they barge into my engagement party like this? What would the guests think about us?” Rachel complains. Alderic came up behind her and placed both his hands onto her shoulder. “Sweetheart, don’t worry. I
“Konnor, Konnor?” A voice calls out. Konnor blinks his eyes, repetitively but slowly. Through his blurry vision, he sees a woman in front of him. “Konnor, wake up!” Konnor blinks his eyes again. This time, he sees his mother in front of him. “Mom? Is-is that you?” Konnor asks emotionally. “Konnor, get up! The sun is shining!” “Mom?” “You make sure you get up okay? I need to leave now,” the woman says as she slowly fades into the background. “Mom! Wait! Come back! Don’t leave me again, please!” Konnor yells as he falls onto the ground. E
