"It's starting to get chilly, maybe I should have dressed more ..."

Eizo Gigli, a young man about to turn twenty, said to himself during a solitary excursion to a wood in the Alps, on an August morning.

He was dressed in ocher yellow shorts and a midnight blue gym jacket, with tall dark brown boots on his feet, thinking it wouldn't be so cold.

He had come to Italy from the USA with his parents for the funeral of his paternal grandfather and to meet his grandmother whom he had not seen for many years.

Eizo was in fact half American, on his mother's side, and half Italian, on his father's side. He was average tall, had curly black hair, dark brown eyes, and long eyebrows; in his life he has always played sports, inheriting his father's passion for football, and for this reason he had a sporty and agile physique.

If you're wondering why his parents gave him a Japanese name, well, both his father and mother have always been passionate about Japanese culture, and it was on one of their trips to Japan that they decided to have a child.

His grandparents' house was located in a remote valley in Trentino Alto-Adige.

Eizo loved his grandfather, and his funeral would be in a few hours, so, Eizo had decided to take a walk in a wood near his grandparents' house to lighten his mind a little and say goodbye to his grandfather for the last time. With his grandfather, Eizo had explored practically all the woods nearby.

As he walked, he observed with surprise how much that wood and path, which he often explored as a child with his grandfather, had changed.

The vegetation of the undergrowth had made it almost completely impassable, brambles and bushes of wild berries had almost entirely "devoured" it, however, when he reached the point he wanted to see, he was fascinated as the first time.

The path in fact, at one point, came to skirt a stream that descended from a high waterfall.

The sunlight passing through the pine needles created breathtaking reflections, and most importantly, the air there was absolutely the freshest, cleanest air that man could breathe.

Eizo stayed there for a while, remembering the first time his grandfather showed him that place, remembering his happiness, and the smile on his grandfather's face.

Tears of a mixture of joy, sadness, and nostalgia rolled down his face.

He pulled out his phone and took a picture of the place.

'It's already 10!' He thought looking forward. The funeral ceremony would begin at 11, he had to hurry back.

He started to resume the previous path, then stopped for a second, and turned to see the waterfall again.

"Goodbye ... Grandfather ...".

On the way back home, he remained silent, and his thoughts also remained silent.

*Fuh

A sound similar to the lighting of a torch came from his left, Eizo turned suddenly and was shocked by what he saw.

'It's flying?!' He rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't having a vision or dreaming.

'A purple flame ... flying ?!'

In front of him, there was a purple flame that floated at the height of his knees, shortly after other flames appeared behind it.

Eizo reluctantly approached the flame closest to him, and when he was about two feet from it, it disappeared.

*Fih

He then approached the other flame, behind the one that had just disappeared, it disappeared in turn.

Eizo understood that the flames wanted to take him somewhere, so he followed them.

'I don't know why ... but I feel I have to follow them ...'

The flames continued to appear and disappear in the undergrowth, these flames did not seem to be able to "burn".

The undergrowth began to become sparse and arid, the only plants that survived there amidst the thick shade created by the pine crowns were mushrooms and a few wild berry brambles. Now you could also hear some small animals wandering through the soft ground of pine needles and moss.

The flames carried him up to a cave carved into the rock. Eizo immediately understood that this cave was not wholly natural, there were in fact, inside it, stone columns that seemed to support it. In addition, the walls of the cave, which had a circular shape, seemed carved to make them smoother.

"My grandfather never told me there was such a cave in this area ..."

The flames invited Eizo to enter it.

A parallelepiped of rock rose from the ground, with a crystal ball above it.

Eizo's mind was confused, and at the same time intrigued by what was going on.

He approached the sphere to get a better look at it. The sphere was dyed with various colors, which mingled with each other, now showing well-defined images.

"It looks like a forest ... yet ... it's all so ... gray ..."

What he saw was a sad forest, as if someone had taken away its colors, lifeless.

*Seventh…*

A voice reverberated in Eizo's mind, a voice without tonality.

* Touch the sphere ... *

What Eizo heard were "empty" words, without "warmth", but which nevertheless mesmerized Eizo.

Eizo reached out to the sphere, and, with his right hand, touched it.

[DARK DARK

and then LIGHT again but in a dark world.]

'Where am I ... it's dark ...'

After touching the sphere, the world in front of me darkened, and I lost the ability to use my senses, I no longer felt anything. Throughout this process, however, I never lost consciousness, which made my experience quite traumatic.

After a while I was finally able to open my eyes again, or rather, I regained my senses.

I was always in that cave and in front of me there was still that strange crystal ball, now tinted with dull black.

The sphere caught my attention and, like a moment ago, it seemed to me that I was being controlled by a mysterious force. I reached out my right hand and dipped it into that sphere, I noticed that there was something in there, so I grabbed it and pulled it out.

'What the f+ck?!' In my hand I now had a sword sheathed in a dark brown leather sheath, which, towards the height of the guard, had a kind of belt, also in dark brown leather.

My eyes were wide open, 'a sword ?!' Part of me was thinking 'That's cool' while another was wondering how I got a sword out of a sphere.

I turned my attention back to the crystal ball for a moment, it was now transparent.

In the throes of the confusion of the moment, I decided to draw the sword anyway.

I was enchanted by its beauty and the "power" that emanated just from looking at it.

I was not a sword expert, however, at first glance, it seemed medieval in style with some fantasy notes and very sharp. The blade was just over 10 centimeters wide, tapering towards the tip, and completely black. Centrally, the blade was dull, while near the edges and tip it was shiny. In total, the sword will be a little over one meter long by counting blade, tang, guard, grip, and pommel.

The ricasso was also black and shiny, but, however, not smooth, it was grainy on the surface. The guard was the most beautiful part in my opinion, in the center, on both sides, there were represented dragon heads, while the two arms of the guard represented dragon wings, also almost completely black, with, however, in the parts where the wings were thinner, dark purple reflections. The guard then gave space to a light brown leather handle, bound on the sides with black threads, which seemed to be formed by small scales. On one side of the handle, there was also a symbol: a heptagon, which seemed to be marked on it.

The pommel was, instead … It took a while to count all the faces

"An icosahedron?" I was surprised that I remembered what this geometric figure was called, and maybe even a little proud of myself.

I was stuck for a while looking at the sword, it surprised me how I could hold it so easily and without tiring my arm; I thought about what had happened, my head was spinning but it didn't hurt, I was just extremely confused.

I put the sword inside its scabbard and tied the belt around my pelvis.

I took my phone out of my pocket to check the time, it was already 10:40. "S+it! I must hurry!"

As I checked the time, another thing left me puzzled, I didn't even take a notch. 'Well, after all, I am in a cave in the middle of a forest in the mountains, it is not as rare as a thing ...' Then I turned around and "plunged" into the forest again. 'Mmh ... there is something wrong ... but what ...' I stopped in the middle of the pine trunks, I looked around, and a lump rose in my throat. 'Where am I?!' I noticed that I was no longer where I was before, the pines were mostly bare of needles, many had reddish needles and looked sick. There were neither brambles nor mushrooms attached to the foot of the conifers. It looked like a dying forest. I also noticed how much colder, almost wintry air was, and how much it gave a gray and gloomy aspect to the surrounding environment. I remained motionless for a while with fear. *Fuh I recognized the sound instantly and turned towards it. A grayish flame levitated to my left. *Fuh Fuh Fuh… Other flames from the round base appeared

'D-did I do it ?!' The sharpness of the sword shocked me.I turned towards the errant and saw a repulsive scene. I had indeed cut off the bear's head, however, not entirely, in fact, it was still attached to its body, but only for a small break of skin. The bear stood up on two legs, its head swayed during the movement until it stopped leaning against its chest. From the bear's head, precisely from the cut I had created, now came white threads that looked like alien worms. They seemed to be moving on their own. These stretched out until they reached the other part of the beast's body, lifting it slowly.I realized the wanderer was trying to reattach his head, so I sprinted at him."Oh, no!".I braced myself to hit it again with a side swipe to the neck, but the beast managed to keep me at a distance with a paw swipe to my right side.'Can you close a wound like that ?!'I had to kill it before its head was completely reattached, I knew that if the errant was back up and running at 100

Then, the old man raised his walking stick and brought the metal knob towards the woman's body. Then he muttered something and the woman's body, previously dirty with mud, dust, and blood, was thoroughly cleansed. 'MAGIC!?' He too, like the old woman who had welcomed me into this world, was a magician. Well, maybe I shouldn't have reacted so surprised, after all, just before, he had opened a door out of nowhere. 'I still can't get used to the idea that magic exists in this world ...' Now that the woman was completely clean, I noticed how beautiful she was. The old man took out of the ampoule some of the healing ointment he had created and spread it over all the wounds, abounding in that on the woman's leg. "Good!" The room, in addition to the bed with clean beige sheets and a blanket made from bear fur, had a dark wood nightstand next to the bed, a small empty two-door wardrobe of dark and shiny wood to my left, and a candlestick which descended from the ceiling with five arms and lighted candles. These candles illuminated the whole room with soft light. I noticed that the candles did not have wax collectors under them, however, looking more closely, I saw that such candles did not wear out and the wax did not melt at all.The floor of the room was in light parquet while the walls were white, although the candlelight yellowed them a little. The only negative point of that room was certainly the lack of windows, which gave me a thread of claustrophobia.'Now that I think about it ... not even the living room where I was before had windows...'I took off the shoes, the fur coat and put the sword by the side of the bed, and lay down in bed. I followed Rivorio into another room in the house, small and gloomy. There was only a source of light that came from the ceiling through a circular oculus. This illuminated above all an open gilded casket, placed above a low column of white marble in the Corinthian style. "W-what is it?" I asked. The casket was not very large. This featured, on the front face, a bas-relief depicting a man plucking a heart-shaped fruit from an apple tree. "HEHe" He laughed smugly, "This is my greatest invention!" He said fiercely, "It's a magical crafting box, specializing in healing and buff potions ..." he smiled at me. Seeing me not entirely enthusiastic, he made a face and spoke again, "Tsk ... look ...". The old man turned to a shelf on his left. He picked up a glass bottle, a twig of something, and a blue leaf, and placed them inside the casket, closing it later. This order, as the name suggests, was made up of the bravest knights of the Saar region, and was born about seventy years before my arrival in that world. When this order of knights was born, this world was at the dawn of the advance of the Plagues armies, especially the first Plague from the north, in the Saar region. All the craziest and most complicated missions that were devised to try to stop the Plagues were given to the knights of this order.Ruh was born in a small town northwest of a few inhabitants named Vidù. This town fell to the First Plague army when Ruh was only 8 years old. Almost all the inhabitants of Vidù were massacred.Ruh was one of the few who escaped this massacre, hiding in time by his parents in a secret underground closet. When the sun went down we decided to settle on a natural clearing among the trees, staying close to the road that led north.Fortunately, the first day of walking ended smoothly, in fact, we did not meet anyone that day.The group of merchants I traveled with consisted of three people: a man in his fifties named Ruh, a woman and a man in their thirties, named Sofie and Rick. Apparently, the latter had decided to start a family when they arrived in SaarKal.Ruh had a massive physique, was tall, and dressed in a dark gray medieval tunic. He had blue eyes and short blond hair. The first time I saw him he gave me the idea that he was some kind of Viking or something, he didn't look like a merchant at all, and instinct told me he was very good at fighting.Sofie and Rick, on the other hand, didn't have the same "aura" as him, they looked like two normal merchants. She was dressed in a dark blue suit, now a bit worn, while he had a thin physique, and did not seem to hide much strength. They

Rivorio then began to tell me in detail about the northern part of the region we were in, advising me to choose the fortress city of SaarKal as the first stop on my journey. SaarKal was not a very large city, having a population, at the last census, of about 18,000 inhabitants; it was, however, the fastest-growing city in the region. Tom then spoke to me of many rumors that indicated this city as the city with the strongest body of knights in the region, and that, that was the reason for the splendor of the city. Rivorio then showed me the roads I should take to get to SaarKal. This city was northwest of where I was and it would take me three weeks on foot to reach it. 'Mmh ... and those two cities ...' I noticed two cities quite close to each other, these seemed bigger than SaarKal. "Sorry Rivorio ... and these two cities?" They were located in the extreme northeast of the Saar region. "Ehhh ..." At my question, Rivorio frowned. "These two are the cities of Fo and Vert ... they

I spent most of the following months training and studying the plants and animals in the area, which I needed to survive out there.First of all, I had to learn how to perceive mana. To do this, I followed the advice of the book that Rivorio had given me.As Rivorio had also told me, the book explained how the simplest way to achieve this was to risk your life in deadly combat with preferably magical beasts. However, as much as I wanted to perceive mana as soon as possible, I would not have willingly wanted to risk my life. For this, I decided to follow another path described by the book, based on meditation, breathing exercises, and physical effort.Meditation, thanks to the herbal tea for which Rivorio gave me the recipe, turned out to be quite simple, in fact, already after five days I was able to meditate for hours and hours without getting tired.Physical exertion, as reported in the book, served to make the body aware of mana fluttering in the air, and was obviously achieved wit

As absurd as it may sound, the back pain I felt at the time was even worse than what I felt during the fight with the chimera. I remembered, then, that it was the same in football, and similarly in all sports, when you recive a foul, the real pain comes at the end of the day when your body has cooled down and the adrenaline in your body is reduced.
