"Okay, all of you, go up and play. Try leaving me alone for some time", Mrs.Wilder shouted through all the clattering cups and dishes.
"Yaay, let's play blind fold. I've got black silk", Lydia said enthusiastically.
"No, I don't think it's a good idea. Let's try something else", Elijah muttered.
"Oh! Come on, coward! We won't hurt ya. Besides, you're thirteen. Guess, you should grow up by now", Jessica flipped her hair.
"It's not that", she mumbled as she tugged a rebellious, black strand behind her ear.
"I think you should go first", Lydia said, "Trust me, Elijah. I think it's time for you to snap out of it".
"No, Lydia I won't stand it", she replied endorcely.
"Well, at least we can give it a try".
Elijah wanted to take Lydia somewhere and wanted to tell just tell her that how hard it is for her to put up with such games. Games that require things she can't give. Games she can't play because of something.
But she didn't tell all this to her. All the judging eyes gaped at her, enticing her to agree. She couldn't help but to nod in agreement.
Then it all happened. The "it" she dreaded will happen. Like she knew it would.
She felt the resilient cloth as Lydia tied it. The world grew dark for her.
"One, two, three, four...", she was spun.
She held her hands out in the air. Erratically, she teetered around, fumbling the walls. Her heart was pounding so hard and loud that she thought anyone near can hear it. Something was going to happen, she was convinced of it.
She was afraid of the dark and Lydia knew. She couldn't help but to imagine herself in the crypt of her house. The dark, horrible crypt where terrible things happened to her and since then had latched to her. She wasn't like this before that. Not any of this.
As she continued walking she heard someone coming up. Catch her and end this, she thought. She made her way to the staircase and collapsed in an invisible wall. Of course, she didn't know it was there. She wasn't that much used to Lydia's house.
"I think widdle blind needs some help", Lucy snorted, "It'll be unruly of us not to".
They were shocked at how she reacted.
"What is the meaning of this commotion up here?", Mrs. Jeff thundered in.
"She's panic-stricken", Lydia said pointing at her.
Her limbs were shivering, tears were shedding down and she was heart-rendingly screaming at the top of her lungs. Never had anyone seen her like this before.
"Aren't you sorry for what you did, Jessica?", Lydia said.
"I didn't do anything. I have no idea what's wrong with her".
"Shut up you both!", Mrs. Wilder shouted.
She then huddled Elijah in her arms, drawing her fingers in her hair tenderly.
"What happened, sweety?"
"Dark and stabbing", she said in a shaken voice,"That's...wha... I'm...afrai...ov", her voice muffled as she sunk deeper in Mrs. Wilder.
"Have you been beaten before?", she was astounded at the revealation.
"She doesn't do back stories. It makes her really violent", Lydia aided.
The Laboratory reports showed traces of Elijah's blood throughout the house as well as scraping marks on the wood of her bed. Marks like someone had tried to get away or something. On being asked why she did it, Merissa replied crazily, "You ain't know her, she's a bitch and not a child as ya see her. You'll regret taking me away, instead of her".
The officer handcuffed her angrily,"How insensitive of an Aunt!".
I'm sitting here on the pavement with my back resting on some backside of a bakery. Thinking of what I've done in the past years and what will become of me in future. I want to just evade away from the planet for sometime and think things through. I feel my inside getting hollow as I think of my life. I've been living like I'm living someone else's life. Now I'm confronting it all and it's hard to admit, it's my life. It's starting to drizzle. I see as one drop of water lands on my right foot, I drag it back. Then another on my left, I drag it under shade too. I hate rain. More concisely, I hate the things related to it. Wanna know, what?It reminds me of the time I learned to utter the word "dead". I remember how strangely I was introduced to it.Well, one night I didn't feel like sleeping at all, so I hopped out of bed and clambered downstairs. Spying on Lisa and dad has been sort of my hobby and I really enjoy catching them doing things they won't let me do. Like using strange word
Lisa was busily whipping cream for the cake she planned to surprise Elijah with. Elijah loved chocolate cakes and Lisa made them often. Just when she raised up after checking the oven, she was dumbfound. She didn't knew Heath will come home this early."That's what you think, you'll sneak out under my nose and I won't know!", Heath had it enough. The whipping got harder and harder."I have rights, okay and there's nothing you can do about it", Lisa replied."Oh, yeah. I know exactly who you met", he narrowed his eyes at her.Lisa gave up whatever she was doing as she knew now nothing can be done. She prepared herself for what she hears everyday and on top of it, it doesn't matter any more."You're a slut. You hear me?... A slut!", every single word was weighed with anger."You mustn't be considering that"."Come! I'd had enough!", he hauled her out in wrath."Stop! Where on Earth are you taking me?""You know where your life is taking you with all this you're doing?""Yeah! I know. Et
"Thanks for the basket, Lydia", I said frenzily, "How come you remember I like 'em?"."What basket?", Lydia asked in confusion."Toblerone... The basket... My birthday", I tried to explain pathetically."You're psychobabbling again", she sighed, " You know sometimes I feel for ya. Was it only the grim upbringing?".I shot her a just-don't-go-there look."Gee. And sorry I couldn't make it for your birthday. I got busy with Tyler and his dudes. They arranged a bonfire. So... I hope you didn't mind and to be honest, I don't like your prude Aunt"."No, I didn't mind", I lied even though I was hating her a lot for saying that."Did you hear from Steve?""No, I don't know anything", I shrugged, trying hard not to freak when his name came up."Well, I think that freak must've left for Sheffield. Remember he always talked about changing highschool?""Yeah, he talked about it all the time"."Well, look Jason has been giving quite a shine at you, lately", she said pointing at him."So?", I prom
"Good thing they're gone. Gee, I can't even smoke with them roaming about", Jessica seemed frustrated."My parents aren't that freaky, I smoke in front of them", Lucy said."Ok, stop boasting about your goody good parents and go fetch some for me", Jessica replied. There's nobody home except for whom I came for. I tried to get myself drunk but nothing really happened, I'm not foggy enough, I'll remember all this. But I've got to get these toxic wenches out of my life. Murdering people seems like a drug now. I can't stop, no matter how much I try to distract myself. I always end up at my pursuer's house.I leaned in her room a bit more. Careful not to get caught beforehand."Where do you keep 'em, anyway?", Lucy asked."Where do ya think, my second last drawer", Jessica waved a key, "It's locked".Lucy scooted up and grabbed it."Don't touch anything else", she called her from behind."And your lighter?"."Oh, it broke, I'll get the lights", Jessica got up.I ducked and ran full speed
She waded through mud, her feet became heavy by the alternative burying in the Earth. She was soaking wet and she stared at the rain pouring down, pestering and hurting her. Everything right now seemed to her as hurting because she'd been hurt from inside."Rot in peace!", she yelled at the tombstones, splashing water drops around her mouth. The dark cemetery stared back at her, a creature this fearless. Wind swept along her direction.Destruction, mayhem, chaos, everything was happening. Everything. She knocked her diary, the one she told the untold in, inside the grave she dug. The grave of someone she knew. Then she embraced the shovel, resting on the bark of a tree and heaved all Earth back. The mud was very thin in consistency since it was raining. Stomping on the marsh puddles, she burried all hurting memories or as she thought she did.She gurgled under her breath, "My life is collapsing...crumbling... meaningless and all the sick words one can think of".The thunder rose."Lo
Lisa grabbed young Elijah and made her sit on her lap, "Say mommy, baby", she planted kisses on her cheeks."Mo-mmy", she breaked. But no response."Ok, let's try this again, the easy way... Wanna try the easy way?"."Ok, say Mo-".Lisa became silent and smile disappeared from her face. Elijah was still staring at her hands like there's no sensation, no perception. She started checking her mouth, saw her tongue and moved it up and down."She doesn't respond and I think I should tell she's five now and she doesn't babble too. I've never heard her make sounds and I used to hold her bottle in her mouth every other minute cause she...", Lisa began crying and her voice broke."It's ok, Mrs. Heath. Some children speak late. You just have to waith till her time comes. Every child has it's own time", Dr. Celia explained."But it could be possible that something might be wrong", Lisa said wiping her tears."No such detected problem with her. She's perfectly fine. Her reports are clear", she sl
I leaned in my chamber and stuffed books and notebooks in my backpack. I didn't care what junk I was taking and slammed the locker door shut.I walked past the hallway, contrary to the overpopulation of thudding shoes everyday, very few people were present due to homecoming. Especially girls. I wasn't facing anyone and tried to finish the day while pretending to be invisible. I don't want to hear Jessica's and Lucy's names.I walked with my head down but with rotating eyes. I think everyone is talking about me. Everyone knows. I gulped my spit and turned my head up.Everything felt the same. The Janitor's son got bullied, the same pain in his eyes. The groups were laughing wildly, the same carefree grin in their eyes.Everything is the same. Everything is normal. Nobody knows.Nobody...Suddenly someone whacked a back of hand against my shoulder from behind. I spun and blowed a fist in the face with all waking energy. The person tripped and landed on the arse."You?", my voice choked
I felt like someone planted lips on my cheek, as hot breath moistened it."You'll miss good things sleeping", she said, "Wake up!".I shifted."Hey!", the voice resonated."Hey! You need to get up!", I realized the change of voice as someone rapidly slapped on my cheek. My eyelids parted a bit and I saw a swivel of people around me. My head felt so burdensome over my neck."She's alive", a girl smiled at me, "Told ya she's just comatose".My eyes began closing again and her voice breaked and echoed around me. I can't understand what she's saying to me.I put up all energy and pushed my eyes open then I shoved myself in a sitting position. I can't feel my lower region and when I tried to sit it was hurting. I hissed in pain."Where... Where am I?", my voice was scratchy for not using it long."Look, we might look like a jackass to you but we don't know either, still trynna figure out and I'd insist you on it too", someone spoke angrily like I asked some stupid question.I looked in th
"I'm not his daughter!", I howled again through my sore throat."I'm not!... I'm not!".Elijah Miller. Steady. Elijah Miller. His voice floated up.I started kicking the air in fury. I'm losing my sanity.I let out a sob as chubby hands wrapped my shoulders. Then they smacked and dragged me to the floor."Let me go!", I shrieked.I started kicking harder and attempted to kick the person too. Then I struggled to get my arms free, thrashing them hard.I kicked the person and turned to see with anger.I gasped in shock and dread as I saw the gingery wild hair."Merissa!", I choked out."How? How? It can't be you.... I killed you. I killed you!", I shouted at her.She narrowed her eyes at me coldly then I heard the door behind her."Eva!", she breathed in relief, "Thank heavens you're here!".She leave me.I went serene, gaping at her with caught breath."What's wrong?", Eva approached me to touch my bandage."I've had enough with her hallucinations! I can't take it anymore!"."Why? What
Too much. Too much for my ears. I pressed them shut."She passed over me for that asshole, so I killed her... No heat, no heartaches!".He seemed crazy, he is a psycho, I reminded myself. Your father is a psycho. This thought, this sick thought that whom I've been considering my father, isn't my father is enough to drain blood from my body. His blood from my body.I felt like being ran over by a stampede. I stumbled towards the stairs not dating to see the man behind me who just confessed he's my father. He continued to laugh behind me. I heard him laughing and stomping on the blood-soaked camisole he threw.I hauled myself up the stairs, rushing and tripping over many. His words rang in my ears.Elijah Miller. Elijah Miller.I killed her. I killed her.I staggered and dragged myself to the rear end of the hallway. I couldn't breathe in the humid morning air and I began with the long, painful cry.Bowling out, I bumped into a guy and stared at his unshaven mouth, opening wide as if he
I pushed against the door, the glass on it rattled. It took Lydia long to chew on my words and now finally I'm out. It's late and I was drenched in sweat. My body is preparing itself for the ordeal I'm about to commit. My ponytail had come undone but I made no effort to fix it. "It's late!", I murmured.Under the glare of the street lights, I was gasping for air. My chest heaved up and down as I crossed the street, running as fast as I could to reach my house.Over the front lawn, the grass of Mrs. Jefferson was freshly mowed, moist and sharp blades stuck to my sneakers as I ran.Merissa's room was dark and dormant as a crypt. My searchlight streamed over her dusty window, illuminating her. Her face was in a peaceful repose as she slept on her left side facing me. For a moment, I thought she's staring at me but her eyes are shut."Time to confront your demons, baby".I clicked my light off, silently put dropped it down on the other side and jumped in the window. Then I darted towards
I rang the bell. I heard it chime, once, twice, thrice in my house. No reply. I stumbled off the front stoop and made my way to the back. The kitchen door was locked too. I knocked on it, loudly.I pressed my forehead against the glass on the door and peered in. She's not home, I realized.I backed away from the door and darted around the steps. The window, it's open. I squeezed and dropped myself in on the sink. Everything stood in dark. The linoleum floor squeaked with my dirty sneakers.I felt drowsy from the sleeplessness. I stepped up the stairs and leaning on the knob, I pushed the door open, all the way and just flopped on the inviting bed.I awoke in the afternoon, feeling a little steadier. I hung my legs down. The air felt so suffocating. I traipsed past my dirty clothes, lying on the floor.I brushed the sour taste from my mouth. Slapped the dirt off my face and neck and stared at my reflection awkwardly. Is this me?The split up lip. The swelled eye. The blood-smeared nos
His voice sent shivers to my spine. He wants me. Wants me desperately .She couldn't have just vanished in the thin air. Find her!'I peeked out to see her face still bloodied. He looked so barbarous and choppy. Why is he so beside himself? What does he want ?' Phew!, I breathed as they prowled out to search me. I'm alone again. The hours passed,Waiting and thinking grievously. My stomach ached so violently, like my acid is now dissolving it's walls. It bubbled like a giantgrowling. I thought of diverting my attention, singing in whispers. After sunset I shoved up. It's time.I couldn't feel my legs but I got on them anyway. Ignoring the pain shooting up and down my body. I brushed myself off, my clothes were damp from sweat and barn dirt.A huge red ball of sun still hung low in the sky.The air carried an evening coolness. Sweet corn's smell struck my nostrils. I staggered out, adjusting my eyes to the darkness.Almost losing my balance, I sucked in a deep, delicious breath of air
"Do I have a word in here?", Lisa shouted through the high volume. I turned it down but my eyes remained glued to the screen."I told you about the dinner with Amanda", she yelled, "Any valid explanation for not changing yet?"."I didn't like it!", I seldom say a whole sentence."You better go else this is on you", she waved, "No computer for a month!"."This isn't fair!", I protested. She smiled victoriously.I half-heartedly clambered upstairs and scowled at the stupid thing waiting for me on my bed.A floral frock in red, yellow and orange.I pulled it down and spun as I saw my reflection, flashing my legs through it as it suspended. I looked so behaved and nice."What a trap!", I thought.I had a sudden impulse to show it to Lisa. Not for her wet kisses but that way I can debt her. She'll have to do something for me cause I did what she said.I smiled as I made my way to her room. It was at the end of the short hall. It was dark and I had to fumble along the wall, unable to find t
