Chapter 8

Archer's eyes widened.

Was everyone in this company a tyrant? The girl was shaking as she stayed huddled in the corner.

The manager was still touching the girl and Archer felt his blood boiling.

The manager turned to look at them, "Can't you see I am in the middle of an important meeting?" he snarled.

"Doesn't look like much from here," Archer mumbled.

"What was that?" the manager asked.

Archer looked up and met the manager's eyes.

"I am here to finish my onboarding."

"It can wait, I am in the middle of something." the manager said.

He was still looking at Archer when the girl took to her heels. The door slammed shut.

Archer raised a brow as the manager turned red in the face.

He pointed at the door, "Get out of it office."

Archer shook his head, "No, I want to complete the process and start work."

The manager was startled, he stared at Archer wondering where he got his confidence from.

He sighed.

"Alright bring your papers let me take a look." he gestured to Archer.

Archer gave him the papers and he hummed to himself as he skimmed through the papers.

"Why do you want to work in the strategy department?" the manager asked.

"I am a quick thinker. My brain is the most beautiful part of my body."

"That's not a good reason to join a company like this. Are they just hiring anyone off the street these days?"

Archer gritted his teeth, "If you are wondering if I am qualified then it is in the file you are holding."

Again, the manager was surprised at his confidence.

He didn't like the vibe Archer was giving him.

"Don't snap at me, young man. I can have you out of this job before you even start." he snapped.

"I didn't snap at you. I don't know why you are being difficult." Archer said.

The manager blanched. He didn't like the confident way Archer was speaking to him. It made him feel weird for some strange reason.

"Very well, fill these." he threw the form at Archer who silently picked them up

He filled out the form and returned it to the man who glanced through it.

"Did they not teach you anything in school?" the man asked.

"What?"

"Follow the instructions properly and fill these forms smartly." the manager ordered.

"You gave me no instructions." Archer defended.

He stopped and stared at Archer for a long time, the disdain so obvious that Archer felt it.

"You are mouthy for a new hire."

Archer rubbed his temple, he was already frustrated from dealing with these two today.

If he had to deal with one more rude person, he was going to flip.

This time around, Jessie helped him fill out the form while the manager glared at them from his desk.

Archer returned the form with a fake smile on his face, the manager grunted but took the form from him.

"Not bad." he hummed.

Archer ignored him.

The manager signed something on the papers. Archer wondered if his attitude had to do with him interrupting whatever It was the manager was doing to that poor girl.

He shivered in disgust. He hated people who thought they could take advantage of others.

The manager looked up with a grim smile, the look in his eyes bothered Archer but he didn't say anything about it.

"It's done. Welcome to the company and make sure not to step on anybody's toes."

Archer wanted to say more but he settled for a simple, "Thank you,"

"Now get out." the manager said with a fake smile.

Archer glared but chose to say nothing.

He left the office. Jessie took him to his desk.

"Get settled in,"

"Thank you," Archer said as she left.

He sighed and leaned in his chair. Humans can be a lot to deal with. He remembered the scene he saw, the girl was being assaulted.

"Hi," a small voice said beside him.

Archer looked at saw it was the girl he saw in the manager's office.

"Hi,"

"Thank you for saving me."

"I barely did anything," Archer argued.

"You did enough."

Archer turned to face her, "Don't you think you should report him?"

"Nobody would believe me. He is well-feared in our department and acts like he is the king. That's why he gets away with almost everything." the girl explained

"Interesting," Archer said.

"And he has never gone far with me. I value my job here and I don't want to lose it."

"If you think that's fair," Archer said.

"Yeah, it is. My name is Lola by the way."

"Nice to meet you Lola, I am Archer."

They shook hands.

"How are you liking it so far?" Lola asked.

"Shitty, I had to meet a bitter old lady and a grumpy molester. If that's the kind of people this company hires then that's terrible." Archer shook his head.

Lola chuckled, "There are good ones so don't think anything much of it. You will love it here." she assured him.

"I hope so."

"I will introduce you to the rest of the team later. They are all focused on a pending project. The manager would blow a fuse if we don't meet up."

The doors opened and the manager stepped in with a frown on his face. He glanced at where Lola and Archer had their heads together smiling and talking and his frown deepened.

He cleared his throat and everybody turned to him.

"Now that I have your attention. We have a new employee who just joined us. I hope you make him feel welcome and show him the ropes.

You know the drill, the welcome party is tonight at 8 pm. Don't be late."

Archer looked around as everyone murmured amongst themselves.

"It's going to be a great night to have fun." the manager said.

His eyes caught that of Lola, his eyes ogled her from head to toe with a malicious smile and then he winked at her making her stiffen.
