Even the waiter was shocked upon hearing the question. When he had heard Evelyn's words, he had thought she must be a good grandmother, but he could never expect that she would be lying.

“Bianca is allergic to pasta,” Persis said. “Don’t tell me you don’t know?”

Evelyn froze; there was no way she could get out of it now. Her lie had been caught. She had tried to make it seem like she was close to Bianca, but that only made things worse for her.

“I thought she liked pasta,” Evelyn said, trying to defend herself. “She told me she liked it, and I made it every time she came.”

Persis arched her brows but laughed inwardly. There was nothing like Bianca being allergic to pasta. She had just made it up since Evelyn had been lying throughout their time together.

“Did you see her eat it?” Persis pressed, wanting to disturb Evelyn further. “I doubt she ever ate with you. Since she is allergic to pasta, and you claimed it’s her favorite, has everything you said been a lie? Are you sure you’re ge

“Okay?” Persis asked, her tone calm but curious, eager to see what Lisa was trying to pull next.Lisa smirked and turned her phone toward Persis. “You might think Tedmond is marrying you, but he’s been flirting with many girls at the university. The girl on the screen is one of them.”On the phone screen was a picture of Tedmond and Persis. It was from the day she had held Tedmond’s hand and led him to the cafeteria. Now, Lisa was twisting it against her?“I don’t mind if he’s close to other women,” Persis said, her voice unbothered. “Besides, the girl in that picture is no match for me. She isn’t even that pretty,” she added, slyly roasting herself. “Is that all you’ve got?”Lisa’s smirk grew. “She’s his current favorite,” she said mockingly. “It seems Tedmond hasn’t left his wild days behind. What do you say to that, Persis?”“That’s interesting,” Persis replied coolly. “But if you’re trying to convince me of something, Lisa, you’ll need more than a picture of Tedmond being polite.”

Evelyn couldn’t shake off the fact that Tedmond’s words might have made Persis think Harold and Maxine didn’t find her important enough to meet, and she wanted to clear the misunderstanding.“It’s not like that!” Evelyn said. “They had to go to the company to meet an important client. Since the contract involved a huge amount of money, they had no choice. But they’ll be here soon.”Persis looked at Evelyn, wondering why she was trying so hard to convince her. It wasn’t that important for the entire family to be present.“I don’t mind,” Persis replied. “They have important business to attend to. It’s not a must for them to be here.”Evelyn flinched, clearly not expecting that response, but she kept her composure. “Let’s wait a little while. They’ll be here soon.”Maxine nodded in support of his mother’s words. Evelyn had asked him to ensure Tedmond’s baby mama stayed if the business meeting took too long.“They’ll be here soon. My little sister has been eager to meet you for a long tim

When Maxine and Harold finally arrived home, it was 10 PM. The company had let them go since the lawyer arrived at 9 PM. The discussion hadn’t been long, so they were able to return an hour later. Both wore frowns; it had been a long day. Not only had they lost face at the company in front of a rival, but they were also unable to meet with Tedmond’s baby mama.Worse, they weren’t even sure if they could secure the contract anymore.Entering the Griffin mansion, Harold and Maxine were greeted by the sight of Lisa, Max, and Evelyn waiting in the living room.Without explaining, Maxine headed straight upstairs, her gaze downcast. “I’m going to bed. The maid can leave my food at the door. No one should bother me,” she said curtly.Max and Evelyn exchanged confused looks as she left.“What’s wrong with her?” Evelyn asked Harold. “She didn’t look like that when you left. Did something happen at the company?”Harold sank into a seat beside them and recounted everything that had transpired. B

“I can’t believe this happened in just a few hours!” Max yelled, grinning from ear to ear as he looked at his phone. He was on Kenstagram, scrolling through the flood of comments. He hadn’t posted the rumor himself, so it would be hard for anyone to trace it back to him.“I had no idea it would blow up that fast, too,” Evelyn said, her eyes gleaming with excitement. “As long as everyone isn’t on their side, we will get that contract.”They were in Max's bedroom, sitting in front of his monitor. Lisa was lying on the bed.“You did a great job, Max,” Harold said.Max shook his head. “Lisa was the one who edited the images. I had no idea she was that talented until she asked me to do it.”Evelyn grinned and placed her hand on Max’s shoulder. “That's great. At least she’s not useless in situations like this. You did a great job marrying her.”Harold nodded in agreement. “That’s right. Now that the rumors have spread, we need to go pay the compensation money to the company.”Evelyn sighed.

Thomas nodded. “Right!”Seeing that they would be busy, Bianca sighed. “Could you send me to Persis’ place?” she asked.“Okay,” Tedmond agreed.*****“Have you found a lead yet?” Duncan asked his secretary. The secretary shook his head. “Not yet. Were you able to contact Xinca too?”Duncan shook his head. “I sent a staff member to meet with them, but he hasn’t arrived yet. If he had met with them, he would have contacted me.”The secretary sighed. “What are we going to do now that the source of the rumor hasn’t been found?”“We’ll just have to make sure to convince Xinca that it was all a rumor, and at the same time, find the source. All that matters first is Xinca, and then we’ll have to settle the rumors.”“Do you think it was made up by someone? We didn’t offend anyone, did we?”Duncan shook his head, placing his hand on the table. “We didn’t. GNN never offends anyone.”“Then who would spread such nasty rumors about us?”Duncan thought about it, and then it hit him. His eyes widene

“Can I get her name?” Harold questioned. “She is the same age as my granddaughter; they could be friends.”Hearing that, Tedmond frowned. The two girls were the same person, and he was trying to get them to be friends with each other. That was the worst thing he had heard all day.“Don’t cross the boundaries, Mr. Griffin,” Tedmond replied, peering at Harold. “Why are you here?”Harold wasn’t shocked by Tedmond’s words—he had been expecting it. After all, he hadn’t paid the compensation or regained trust between them, but that didn’t bother him much. GNN was in crisis, and Griffin’s Cooperation would be the one to be picked no matter what.“I’m here to pay the compensation fee and apologize again for my family’s behavior,” Harold answered.“I thought I told Ms. Fincall to give you the account number to which the money should be transferred. Did you lose it?”Harold flinched. Was it that obvious he had thrown the account number away to have an excuse to meet the president in person?“I

The question was one that Duncan had been waiting for. He had thought about what to do and had come across an idea that might help him. He wasn’t sure if it would work, but he knew he had to try.“I would like you to give us the background research documents you have about us,” Duncan said.Silence ensued between them. Tedmond’s gaze fixed on Duncan, who met his eyes without blinking. They stared at each other for a long time. Tedmond hadn’t expected Duncan to ask for background research about his own company.“Why would you need that?” Tedmond questioned. “Do you think it will help clear your name?”Duncan didn’t elaborate. “I’m not going to mention your name or the name of the company when I release the file. I just want to release the details of my company so people can see and judge for themselves.”“Who would release it?” Tedmond pressed, his curiosity rising. “If you release it yourself, it will look fake, like you did it intentionally to clear your name.”“I would have one of t

Hearing his father’s words, Tedmond's smile dissipated, but then the grin returned to his face. “What did you say?”Guessing their father’s intentions, the others joined in. Harold had just gotten an idea: if he could convince Tedmond to make his baby mama invest in their struggling company for a fake project, they could get the hundred million back.“There’s a project going on, and we need investors to fund it,” Max added, his face serious. “It’s a big project, and the investment required will be substantial.”“That’s right. Your baby mama will be part of the family too. It would be great for her to help us,” Maxine continued.Evelyn even went as far as holding Tedmond’s hand—something she had only done when she was about to hit him as a child.“You’ll have the right to return to the family as long as you agree to help us with the investment,” Evelyn muttered. “You’re my son, after all, and it makes me sad that you were kicked out.”Tedmond was taken aback. He had guessed they might

Tedmond looked at Finn. He had just arrived on campus and hadn’t even done anything yet, and still, he was bombarded by Finn—someone who clearly had no idea how to read the room before acting.Giving Finn a blank stare, Tedmond genuinely wondered if he was just stupid. Not only did Finn fail to read the atmosphere, but he also just said the most ridiculous thing ever. This wasn’t the first time Tedmond had eaten in the cafeteria. It wasn’t even the second. The only reason he had avoided the cafeteria in the past was because it was one of the main places Max and his friends had humiliated him the most.He hadn’t wanted them to do something to his food and make him eat it.So, he’d stayed away—not because he couldn’t afford the meals that only cost a few bucks—but to protect himself.“What the hell are you talking about now?” Persis asked, frowning as she looked at Finn. “Don’t tell me you came to join the table just to say that?”She was already irritated that Lisa was at the table, ev

Persis looked at Lisa, the thought weighing on her. If Lisa had overheard their conversation, then she would’ve known that Tedmond was the one Persis had called—but it didn’t seem like she did.Lisa asked if Persis had called Neil. It felt more like she had asked intentionally, to find out who Persis would say she called.Since Persis remained silent, Lisa looked at her, eyes dark with anger. Persis hadn’t said a word after the question—just stared at Lisa with a slight frown, like she couldn’t even be bothered to respond. That alone was enough to set Lisa off. But she held back. She needed answers. If Persis was close to Alicia, then this was her only shot. Her only chance to find out why Alicia kept dragging her into one mess after another.Alicia had already told the rest of the family about her so-called plans with Hino. And if that wasn’t enough, she’d somehow gotten Evelyn to slap her in front of everyone.Since that day, nothing had been the same. The family had grown distant,

Max regretted mentioning his brother the moment Neil asked that question. He hadn’t even adequately told his new friends that Tedmond was his brother. He’d only dropped subtle hints, letting them piece it together themselves. It wasn’t like he was proud of the connection. He hated the fact that he and Tedmond shared the same blood. He’d even taken multiple DNA tests, hoping—praying—that the results would prove otherwise. But the papers always said the same thing:They were related.‘I didn’t want to tell Alicia about Tedmond,’ he thought, sneaking a glance at Neil. ’It would’ve been better if she found out on her own, in her own time.’Neil raised an eyebrow, watching Max spiral into silence over a simple question. “What’s with the sudden mood drop? Did I say something wrong?”Max blinked, snapping out of his thoughts. “No, you’re good. It’s just... complicated.”Neil leaned back, folding his arms. “Complicated how? I just said you never told me you had a brother. I was curious about

As soon as the car began moving, Tedmond glanced out the window. He hadn’t just chosen to let the men deal with Ottis and the others—he had also left without seeing how badly they would get beaten. Nor did he try to use the situation to his advantage.Letting Ottis get beaten wasn’t enough—not after everything Ottis had done to him and the way he had insulted his mother.Shaking his head, Tedmond snapped out of his thoughts. There were still plenty of chances to deal with Ottis. This was only the beginning.Everyone who had disrespected his mother was going to get a taste of their own medicine—and he wasn’t going to let any of them off quickly. At that moment, his phone began to ring. Pulling it from his pocket, he glanced at the caller ID. The name read Persis.Seeing her name, Tedmond immediately answered the call. Persis had planned to attend afternoon classes, and she had gone earlier because her extra class started before the general one.“Hello…” Her voice came through the speak

Not knowing what to say to them anymore, Tedmond decided not to bother trying to convince them. Ottis had dragged them into this mess when he could’ve simply handed over the money.Tedmond tucked his phone back into his pocket, calm as ever. “If you’re so confident, then come at me. Don’t hesitate now.” His gaze swept across them, daring. “And when you’re writhing on the floor, try not to beg too much. It’s pathetic.”That was the last straw.“GET HIM!” Remi roared. The thugs charged at Tedmond like a pack of wild dogs—fists clenched, eyes blazing with rage. But just as they closed in—CRASH!The ceiling burst open, and masked men dropped down like shadows. The walls cracked open, revealing hidden panels from which more men in black silently stepped out. The front door slammed shut as two more guards entered, locking the exits. Even the corners of the floor opened up, and more men rose from hidden compartments.Everyone froze.Even Tedmond was stunned. He knew help would come—but he h

  • CHAPTER 223

Tedmond had not only provided someone for them to beat up, but he was also offering a large sum of money. There was no reason for them to refuse.Remi, too, recognized that he couldn’t turn down the deal. The money was too tempting. But there was one issue—Ottis was a regular client. He was a guaranteed source of income, while Tedmond was likely just a one-time, high-paying opportunity.Still, for now, the money mattered most.“That’s fine with us,” Remi replied with a shrug. “As long as you can pay us, who cares who gets beaten?”Seeing their leader accept Tedmond’s offer, the other men broke into cheers. The rest of the day was looking up—for such a large amount, they’d be able to get more women than they’d originally planned. On the other hand, Ottis was in shock. He couldn’t believe they had turned on him so quickly—all for money.“How could you do this to me?!” Ottis demanded. “I’m the one who’s your client! You can’t just accept his offer!”Remi turned to him, his expression col

Upon coming to a conclusion, the customary grin Remi had returned. He just needed to give the order to his men to start, and they would begin. As Remi turned to give the order, Tedmond’s voice finally cut through the air.“You should’ve asked for more,” he said coolly, his tone calm and firm. “How much is the money that had been doubled? I would like to triple it.”The room froze. The men turned toward Tedmond, stunned that he had the nerve to speak, let alone offer more money.Ottis’s head snapped in his direction, a deep frown settling on his face.Remi raised a brow, caught off guard by what he’d just heard. The amount he was set to receive from Ottis was already generous—he had even convinced him to double it. And now Tedmond was offering to triple that doubled sum?The rest of the men were just as shocked.Triple the already doubled money? For a moment, they were genuinely tempted. After all, in their line of work, loyalty usually went to whoever paid the highest price. However,

Ottis had finally said what he wanted them to do to Tedmond—and hearing it, Tedmond wasn’t surprised. He had expected something like this from Ottis. He could already tell what Ottis was aiming for. By asking them to break his arms and legs, Ottis wanted to render him completely useless—someone who couldn’t move, couldn’t fight, couldn’t even feed himself without help. But Tedmond wasn’t going to let that happen. On the other hand, Remi’s face lit up with excitement. He was thrilled to finally get the green light to create a masterpiece—a broken body that couldn’t be fixed.Remi had a fetish for snapping bones. Yet until now, no client had ever requested just broken bones. Most wanted pain or death, but this… this was art to him.“We’re free to beat him however we want, right?” Remi asked, eager for confirmation.Ottis nodded, his gaze locking back onto Tedmond. The grin on his face stretched even wider. He couldn’t wait to see fear finally take over Tedmond’s face.‘He has to be terr

As soon as the men stepped into the warehouse, their eyes landed on Tedmond, seated calmly on a chair. The gang leader, Remi, broke into a wide grin the moment he saw him. That chair was usually reserved for the poor souls they dragged in to torture, and now that Tedmond was sitting on it, Remi knew they had themselves a new plaything—someone to mess with for hours while they drank and laughed.“Looks like we’ve got ourselves a gift,” Remi said, his grin deepening as he glanced at the others. One by one, they nodded, grins spreading across their faces. They’d been out all night, bored and hoping to find someone to mess with, but had returned empty-handed—until now. The sight of Tedmond sparked excitement in them. The games could wait, but their entertainment was secured.Remi’s gaze finally shifted from Tedmond to the person who had brought him. He hadn't paid attention earlier, too focused on their new toy. When his eyes landed on Ottis, recognition lit up his face.Ottis was one of
