"Her best friend!" the blonde guy screamed at the top of his lungs. "We've known each other since childhood, and she's been like this for as long as I can remember!"

The blonde guy grinned from ear to ear, his excitement clear. "I never thought Persis would ever get engaged. And to the son of Washington? That's surprising."

A frown crossed Tedmond’s face at the man’s loud voice.

“He’s one of my assistants,” Persis said, ignoring the blonde guy and addressing Tedmond. “More like an important aide.”

“Okay,” Tedmond replied.

Since the blonde guy was a friend of Persis, Tedmond didn’t feel the need to worry, though he was still curious about the man’s role.

At that moment, Lora stepped into the office. Tedmond looked up as she approached and handed him a tablet.

“There’s news about GNN,” Lora announced. “Duncan has been arrested.”

Tedmond froze, his gaze falling to the tablet. The screen displayed a headline about Duncan’s arrest.

“The Griffins are moving fast, aren’t they?” Tedmond mumbl

Max frowned at Bryan as he regained his composure. “Why does him not running the company have anything to do with us?” he demanded. “Didn’t you see the news about him? You should be at the station comforting him.”Bryan glared at him as soon as the words left his lips. “Did you just say it has nothing to do with you? You’re the ones who ruined his reputation and got him arrested.”Lisa flinched, no longer having the strength to lie. She moved to the side, ready to leave if things got out of hand.“Ugh. I have no idea why someone like you is here,” Max said, running his hand through his hair in frustration. “Just leave.”“That’s right. You’ve come here to accuse us of something we never did,” Evelyn said, frowning at Bryan. “Isn’t this the same thing that happened to your brother? I understand that you’re mad and can’t think straight, but you should at least find the real culprit and not try to pin it on someone else as they did to him. Actually, it might not even be a lie, considering

Max stared into space as soon as the call ended. He couldn’t understand what Duncan’s second brother was saying. What shocked him even more was the revelation that Duncan had another brother besides Bryan.“Did he just ask us to post an apology and retract everything we said about Duncan?” Evelyn questioned, her eyes wide with disbelief.“That’s right,” Max confirmed. “He said he’d release the evidence Bryan collected if we didn’t.”Gritting her teeth, Evelyn frowned so deeply that her face seemed to harden. She hated that all their plans had been ruined, and now they were at the mercy of Duncan and his brothers. On the other hand, Max paced back and forth, biting his thumb as he tried to think of a solution. Minutes passed, and a deep frown appeared on his face. No ideas came to him—nothing that could salvage their situation.“It seems like we have no choice but to do as they say,” he muttered.“Did you come up with something?” Evelyn asked, her tone laced with desperation.Max shook

“Where the hell is Max?” Harold demanded, stomping his feet on the ground. He and Maxine had just returned home and heard about what had happened. He had expected Max to come up with a solution, but to his disappointment, Max was nowhere to be found. No one had any idea where he had gone.Seeing her husband so angry, Evelyn reached out to grab Harold’s arm, trying to calm him down. “Max must have gone to find a solution to our problems. He mentioned he had something on his mind and a plan.”Harold turned to look at his wife. “Are you sure he has a plan? He left with only 59 minutes to go.”Maxine glanced at her wristwatch and shook her head. “There are only 20 minutes left now. Max isn’t answering his phone, and he isn’t coming back. We can’t wait for him, or our reputation will be ruined for nothing. We have to do what they’re asking us to.”Harold glanced at Maxine, pressing his lips together as he tried to think of something. If only Maxine had been able to charm the president, he

Harold clasped his hands together, praying silently. During those minutes of waiting, he paced back and forth. Maxine and Evelyn sat tensely on edge as they waited for the results to be announced.Lisa, on the other hand, had retired to bed. She had stayed with them until she received a phone call and left.“What is taking them so long?” Harold muttered as though someone could answer him. “And where is Max? What the hell is taking him so long?”Evelyn flinched at his outburst but quickly regained her composure. She had tried to cover for Max, avoiding any comments that might lead Harold to go looking for him. But now, she wasn’t so sure she wanted to help him anymore, given that he had left and failed to return with a solution.“I have no idea,” Evelyn replied, her voice calm but tight. “Why don’t we just ask him when he returns?”Harold stopped pacing and turned to her, his expression hardening. “If he even does return,” he said, his voice thick with frustration. “I told him this was

The front door of the Washington family mansion opened, and Tedmond stepped inside. His eyes scanned the entrance, searching for any sign of movement. It had been a long day, and he had stayed late at the office to ensure everything was settled. He had seen the news about Duncan’s release after the viral apology post. At first, he thought Duncan would expose the family with the evidence he had gathered, but instead, Duncan had only issued threats.A grin spread across Tedmond’s face. ‘I should meet with Duncan soon.’Just then, his phone buzzed. Pulling it out, he saw a message from Persis.‘Did you get home safe?’ she had written. ‘I’m out at a restaurant in Perseia. You should head out for dinner too.’A smile crept onto his face as he read the message. However, it quickly faded as he ran a hand through his hair before replying.‘I did get home safely. I might eat at home too.’As he raised his head from his phone, preparing to go upstairs, he noticed Thomas standing nearby, as if h

Tedmond glared at Neil, who began fidgeting nervously. He hadn’t meant it that way. He didn’t intend for things to escalate like this. He had just been joking with Hino and was now in deep trouble.“I seriously didn’t mean it that way,” Neil said hurriedly. “I just wanted to joke around with Hino since he kept pestering me to leave without consulting you.”Hino flinched at the accusation. Of course, he had said nothing of the sort. Neil was trying to use him as an excuse to get out of trouble. That was what Neil always did back when they were a boss and an employee.“I’ll be going now, brother,” Bianca said, her beaming smile making it seem like she hadn’t just caused trouble. “Good night.” She kissed him on the cheek and hurried out of the room.Tedmond watched the door close before turning his sharp gaze back to Neil. “Max called, and you decided not to tell me about it? Really?”Neil shook his head rapidly. “No! I didn’t mean to! Hino was the one who asked me not to. Isn’t that rig

Tedmond still hadn’t gotten used to Maxine’s voice, and it irritated him every time he heard her try to make a pass at him, despite making it clear he wasn’t interested. As soon as her voice filled the room, he could hear the details of her plans with her father, and a frown crossed his face. Not only did they intend to go after a man with a fiancée, but they also wanted to ensure Maxine got pregnant so she could force her way into being accepted, even if it meant becoming a mistress.Disgusted, Tedmond reached for his phone and dialed a number. The call was answered on the second ring.“Yes, President?” A female voice came through the speaker. The person he had called was Lora. He needed to inform her of something immediately instead of waiting until the next day.“Make sure no one with the Griffin name gets hired, and ban anyone with that name from entering Xinca. We can’t afford trouble in the company anymore.”“Yes, sir. I’ll inform everyone,” she responded. The call ended, and Te

Neil peered at Max, considering his next words. Max had said “years,” as though he and Lisa had been married for a long time. If Tedmond hadn’t told him about Max beforehand, he might have thought Max got married at 14, the way he emphasized the word. After a few seconds of deliberation, Neil placed a hand on his chin. “If she caused so much damage to the company, why doesn’t she take responsibility and fix it?” Neil questioned.Max's eyes widened, clearly unprepared for the question. He tilted his head slightly, as though trying to mask his surprise.“I know she should take responsibility,” Max began, “but she’s so weird she can’t even undo what she’s already done.” He looked back at Neil. “If only you knew what she did, you’d understand.”Neil resisted the urge to grin and instead wore a concerned expression. Max was a smooth talker, but he’d just said the one thing that would prompt Neil to dig deeper into the company’s situation.Seeing no way out, Neil finally asked the question

She had been the one to make it seem like he didn’t have the money to be in the VIP room, even though he had clearly stated that his friend was waiting for him.“Didn’t you say you’d quit if I was telling the truth?” Tedmond asked smoothly. The employee immediately panicked, scrambling to think of what to say. If she made a mistake and slipped up, she was going to lose her job.“I made a mistake,” she blurted out. “Your shirt made me think you wouldn’t be able to afford the VIP section. There have been tons of people who came in here claiming they could afford it, but they couldn’t.”The manager turned to her, but Tedmond stopped him with a raise of his hand.“You said you would quit if my shirt wasn’t cheap, like you claimed,” Tedmond muttered. She nodded, starting to feel relieved. She had only mentioned quitting if his shirt was

Hearing them, Tedmond sighed. He hadn't expected it to take so long to be allowed into the restaurant's VIP section. It wasn’t as if checking the list of guests in the VIP room and confirming who had invited him was a big deal. The employee, emboldened by the others’ reactions, smirked. “I was just telling him that the VIP section is for important guests only.”Tedmond remained unfazed, his expression blank. He had dealt with worse before. If they thought they could embarrass him, they were mistaken. Casually, he took his phone from his pocket and scrolled through his messages.“I don’t need to prove anything to you,” he said smoothly, not sparing them a glance. “My friend is already inside the VIP room.”Walsh raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. “Oh? And who might that be?”As soon as the question left Walsh's mouth, the employee was about to speak when Tedmond cut her off.“Kyle Krishin,” he replied, finally meeting Walsh’s gaze, his lips curling into a smirk. The moment the nam

Realizing that Tedmond had recorded the entire conversation, they all began to panic again. They had just managed to convince Duncan to let them off, and now Tedmond had another piece of evidence to use against them—one that could involve the cops, as it contained proof of their kidnapping attempt.“We didn’t mean it that way!” Adeline yelled, completely panicked since she had also agreed to it. “We were just talking. Of course, there was no way we would actually kidnap your daughter—she’s our family.”“Adeline is right,” Harold immediately added. “We only wanted to meet her since you wouldn’t allow us to.”Tedmond tilted his head to the side. “Really?” he asked, his eyes softening as if he were considering their words.Adeline and the others nodded quickly, desperately hoping he would buy their excuse, even though it was so weak that no one would believe it.“Do you all think I’m dumb?” Tedmond demanded, his eyes darkening. His sharp tone made them flinch. “I don’t care how you come

Everyone in the room froze as they saw Tedmond. His presence alone was enough to make them panic. They hadn’t expected him to be in the house at that moment, and now, he hadn’t just overheard them talking about him—he had heard all of their plans.Adeline began to panic, certain that he wouldn’t let them off now that he knew everything.“What are you doing here?” Harold asked, his brows rising in confusion. He had changed the combination code at the front door and was sure that no one had told Tedmond what the code was. How had he gotten in?Tedmond’s gaze swept over the room, his expression unreadable. Then, in a voice so calm it sent chills down their spines, he said, “Say that again.”His voice, though soft, carried a quiet menace that thickened the air with tension. No one spoke. His eyes landed on Adeline, who immediately looked away. Then on Harold, who shifted uncomfortably. His patience thinned.“Did you not hear me?” he asked, his tone still even. “I said, repeat what you jus

As soon as the words rolled out of Richard’s lips, everyone present turned their heads to glare at him. Although he spoke about himself, his words sounded more like he was defending Tedmond, and they couldn’t stand hearing such a thing.“What do you mean you wouldn’t give it back?” Adeline demanded, her face twitching with anger. The others also wanted to hear Richard’s answer. How dare he say that when they were trying to figure out how to force Tedmond to let go of the shares and return them?“Like I said,” Richard began. “We’ve always told him how useless he was and made sure he felt worthless. Now that he has the shares—something even his father doesn’t have—he will never give them up, no matter what we do. So, it’s all a waste anyway. We should give up right here.”The others tried to speak, but Richard cut them off, unwilling to let them interrupt before he finished. He had already thought it through and was sure of his conclusion. From Tedmond’s behavior earlier, it was clear t

At the Griffin Mansion the next morning…The Griffin family slowly gathered in the living room. Harold, on the other hand, looked at each of them in confusion. He had no idea why they had all shown up at his house. They had arrived at midnight, leaving him no chance to ask them their reason for coming. This time, Max was home, but he would soon be heading out for his lectures.“So, tell me why you’re all here,” Harold said once everyone had settled in. “Did something happen?”With a frown on her face, Adeline parted her lips.“Well, we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for that bastard son of yours!”At the mention of Tedmond, Max’s brows furrowed.‘Tedmond again?’Max hated whenever Tedmond was the topic of discussion. It was either them mocking Tedmond or comparing the two of them.“You mean Tedmond?” Harold asked, his brows knitting together.“Which other bastard son do you have?” Evelyn questioned.Harold glanced at her. “I had to ask since there was no way you would have run into Ted

Looking at Persis, Tedmond couldn’t help but wonder what she was talking about. She had just mentioned his father's company, and he had no idea what might be wrong with it.Since Duncan's silence had been bought with shares and the other external family members had intervened, the company was safe. For now.Tedmond still had a debt in the company’s name, and the interest would keep rising to the point where they wouldn’t be able to pay it back. When that time came, he would claim the company like it was the natural thing to do.On second thought, he realized he should have gone to the family home to see the expression on his father’s face. But it was better for him not to go while the others were there. That would be too much noise and trouble. He didn’t think he could stand all of them at once.“What interesting thing is about to happen?” Tedmond asked Persis, his brows furrowing in curiosity.“Harold is trying to make Max and Kyle friends again,” Persis replied, the look on her face

“Did you just mention my mother?” Tedmond demanded, glaring at them with sharp intensity. He had considered ignoring them and walking away, but he hadn’t expected them to bring his mother into the conversation. It wasn’t the first time, yet it never failed to make his blood boil. How dare they bring her up after everything they had done to her?And why was it that he and his mother were the ones blamed for his existence, while Harold got to walk around free, untouched by their judgment? The look on Tedmond’s face made Frank and the others flinch. It was the first time they had seen him like this. In the past, he would have been the one looking terrified, avoiding their gaze.Feeling annoyed that she had flinched at Tedmond’s glare, Adeline opened her mouth to speak, but he didn’t give her the chance.“Did you just bring my mother into this discussion?” Tedmond repeated, stepping forward, his glare unwavering. “Didn’t Max tell you what happened the last time he mentioned my mother?”

Duncan’s gaze shifted to Tedmond, a silent question in his eyes. Was he going to back down, or was he finally going to stand his ground? He had no idea why Mr. Washington had asked him to hand the shares to the members of the Griffin family. To Duncan, the first time he had heard about Tedmond was when Mr. Washington mentioned him. When he went to meet the Tedmond in question, he was surprised to find how similar they looked. The first thing he noticed was the familiar blue eyes and height. For a moment, he wondered if Mr. Washington was affiliated with the Griffin family. But on second thought, he dismissed the idea—he didn’t want to doubt Mr. Washington. If Mr. Washington had wanted his help, he would have told him.Tedmond met Tina’s gaze, then slowly stood up. “You’re right. I don’t have a place in this family,” he said, his voice calm but firm. “But I do have these shares now. And whether you like it or not, that makes me a part of this company.”A tense silence filled the room.
