Tedmond stepped into the VIP room, a slight frown creasing his face. The manager’s nonstop apologies had been exhausting, each word more unnecessary than the last. He wished the man had just left instead of lingering and repeating himself over and over.

Now, he felt drained from nodding too many times just to acknowledge the apology. His patience had worn thin, and all he wanted was a moment of peace.

As soon as Kyle saw Tedmond, he shot to his feet, his face breaking into a wide grin. His eyes shimmered, as if he were on the verge of tears.

“Oh my God! I thought you were ignoring me, Tedmond!” Kyle blurted out, his voice loud and filled with emotion. His gaze swept over Tedmond like they hadn’t seen each other in ages, taking in every detail as if he needed proof that Tedmond was really standing there.

Tedmond blinked, startled by the outburst. The tired expression that had settled on his face moments ago faded as he studied Kyle with a raised brow.

“You seem so busy these days that

Trouble?Kyle peered at Ottis, finding him strangely familiar. However, he couldn’t quite place where he had seen him before.Tedmond frowned. He had seen Ottis’s message but hadn’t expected to run into him so soon. He had classes to attend and didn’t want to waste time dealing with him.More importantly, had Ottis been in the restaurant when he bought it? That would be a problem. If Ottis knew he had enough money to purchase a high-end restaurant, his identity would be exposed—and Griffin would figure it out too.“I had no idea you became friends with one of Max’s buddies.” Ottis’s voice dripped with amusement, a grin creeping onto his face. “After getting kicked out of the family, are you trying hard to be Max?”Tedmond rolled his eyes. As if. Why would he ever want to be Max? Even if Max were made president of the entire country, he’d still be the last person Tedmond would want to emulate.“What the hell are you talking about?” Kyle snapped, his glare fixing on Ottis. The moment he

Hearing Tedmond speak to him like that, Ottis looked like he’d been shot. For all the times he’d visited the Griffin mansion, even the legitimate children never dared talk back to him. Yet here was a bastard—Tedmond—standing tall, eyes firm, tone sharp, not backing down.“How dare you?!” was the only thought roaring in Ottis's mind. How dare a maid’s son talk to me like that? Just because he got a few shares, did he suddenly think he was something now? Arrogant fool. He was still the same low-born brat he’d always been.Ottis clenched his jaw, rage bubbling in his gut. He would take back those shares—crush Tedmond’s delusion of power. But Tedmond wasn’t finished. He stepped closer, gaze locked on Ottis, fearless.“You thought I’d give you those shares just because you asked?” Tedmond’s voice was calm, but his words cut sharp. “You thought you could bark orders like before and I’d run away with my tail between my legs?”Ottis scoffed, forcing a smirk that already cracked at the edges.

Seeing the hand heading for his face, Tedmond didn’t bother dodging or bracing himself, which made Ottis even more furious. Ottis still remembered when Tedmond would brace himself or try to dodge the punch, but now, it was different.“You insolent bastard!” Ottis barked, and without another word, he raised his hand to strike. However, before the punch could land, Tedmond’s hand shot up, effortlessly catching Ottis’s wrist in mid-air. The sudden stop made Ottis flinch.Tedmond looked down at the hand he’d just caught, then back at Ottis with a mixture of disbelief and contempt.‘This man used to scare me?’The realization hit like thunder. It was then that Tedmond realized he hadn’t been scared of Ottis at all. He had only been scared of fighting back. In the past, he had known that if he had tried to hit Ottis back, it would have led to so much trouble. But now, he could hit him all he wanted.Ottis, red-faced and trembling with rage, tried to yank his hand back, but Tedmond held on,

As soon as the men stepped into the warehouse, their eyes landed on Tedmond, seated calmly on a chair. The gang leader, Remi, broke into a wide grin the moment he saw him. That chair was usually reserved for the poor souls they dragged in to torture, and now that Tedmond was sitting on it, Remi knew they had themselves a new plaything—someone to mess with for hours while they drank and laughed.“Looks like we’ve got ourselves a gift,” Remi said, his grin deepening as he glanced at the others. One by one, they nodded, grins spreading across their faces. They’d been out all night, bored and hoping to find someone to mess with, but had returned empty-handed—until now. The sight of Tedmond sparked excitement in them. The games could wait, but their entertainment was secured.Remi’s gaze finally shifted from Tedmond to the person who had brought him. He hadn't paid attention earlier, too focused on their new toy. When his eyes landed on Ottis, recognition lit up his face.Ottis was one of

Ottis had finally said what he wanted them to do to Tedmond—and hearing it, Tedmond wasn’t surprised. He had expected something like this from Ottis. He could already tell what Ottis was aiming for. By asking them to break his arms and legs, Ottis wanted to render him completely useless—someone who couldn’t move, couldn’t fight, couldn’t even feed himself without help. But Tedmond wasn’t going to let that happen. On the other hand, Remi’s face lit up with excitement. He was thrilled to finally get the green light to create a masterpiece—a broken body that couldn’t be fixed.Remi had a fetish for snapping bones. Yet until now, no client had ever requested just broken bones. Most wanted pain or death, but this… this was art to him.“We’re free to beat him however we want, right?” Remi asked, eager for confirmation.Ottis nodded, his gaze locking back onto Tedmond. The grin on his face stretched even wider. He couldn’t wait to see fear finally take over Tedmond’s face.‘He has to be terr

Upon coming to a conclusion, the customary grin Remi had returned. He just needed to give the order to his men to start, and they would begin. As Remi turned to give the order, Tedmond’s voice finally cut through the air.“You should’ve asked for more,” he said coolly, his tone calm and firm. “How much is the money that had been doubled? I would like to triple it.”The room froze. The men turned toward Tedmond, stunned that he had the nerve to speak, let alone offer more money.Ottis’s head snapped in his direction, a deep frown settling on his face.Remi raised a brow, caught off guard by what he’d just heard. The amount he was set to receive from Ottis was already generous—he had even convinced him to double it. And now Tedmond was offering to triple that doubled sum?The rest of the men were just as shocked.Triple the already doubled money? For a moment, they were genuinely tempted. After all, in their line of work, loyalty usually went to whoever paid the highest price. However,

Tedmond had not only provided someone for them to beat up, but he was also offering a large sum of money. There was no reason for them to refuse.Remi, too, recognized that he couldn’t turn down the deal. The money was too tempting. But there was one issue—Ottis was a regular client. He was a guaranteed source of income, while Tedmond was likely just a one-time, high-paying opportunity.Still, for now, the money mattered most.“That’s fine with us,” Remi replied with a shrug. “As long as you can pay us, who cares who gets beaten?”Seeing their leader accept Tedmond’s offer, the other men broke into cheers. The rest of the day was looking up—for such a large amount, they’d be able to get more women than they’d originally planned. On the other hand, Ottis was in shock. He couldn’t believe they had turned on him so quickly—all for money.“How could you do this to me?!” Ottis demanded. “I’m the one who’s your client! You can’t just accept his offer!”Remi turned to him, his expression col

Not knowing what to say to them anymore, Tedmond decided not to bother trying to convince them. Ottis had dragged them into this mess when he could’ve simply handed over the money.Tedmond tucked his phone back into his pocket, calm as ever. “If you’re so confident, then come at me. Don’t hesitate now.” His gaze swept across them, daring. “And when you’re writhing on the floor, try not to beg too much. It’s pathetic.”That was the last straw.“GET HIM!” Remi roared. The thugs charged at Tedmond like a pack of wild dogs—fists clenched, eyes blazing with rage. But just as they closed in—CRASH!The ceiling burst open, and masked men dropped down like shadows. The walls cracked open, revealing hidden panels from which more men in black silently stepped out. The front door slammed shut as two more guards entered, locking the exits. Even the corners of the floor opened up, and more men rose from hidden compartments.Everyone froze.Even Tedmond was stunned. He knew help would come—but he h

In the hospital ward where Vivian and Adeline sat, the beeping of machines provided the only rhythm in the heavy silence. The faint scent of antiseptic lingered in the air—sharp and cold.Vivian sat hunched at the edge of her seat, her hands clenched tightly in her lap. Her gray hair, once neatly tied back, had begun to come loose, with strands falling messily around her temples. Her eyes were red—not from crying, but from sheer exhaustion.Adeline paced near the window, arms folded tightly across her chest. Outside, the sun shone brightly, and she could see people moving about—some in wheelchairs, others deep in conversation with family members. The hallway beyond the door was quiet, save for the occasional shuffle of nurses’ shoes or the distant echo of a cough.Adeline had just told Vivian about Ottis’s current condition. Hearing that her grandson was in danger made Vivian panic. Her memory might not have been the sharpest, but she still felt pity for him.For him to be beaten that

How dare you ignore me?” she snapped, swinging her hand toward his face. But before she could land the slap, Tedmond caught her wrist mid-air. He hadn’t expected the attack, but there was no way he’d let her hit him—not anymore. He wasn’t the same person who used to stand still and take it.“What the hell is this supposed to be?” Tedmond demanded, a deep frown forming on his face."You—!" Her scowl deepened. “How dare you grab my hand? Do you have a death wish or something?!”“Death wish?” he echoed with a bitter chuckle. “No. I’ve just finally learned to stop letting people treat me like trash.”Tina’s eyes widened, taken aback by the calm defiance in his voi

Ottis had told her everything that happened, and she wasn’t about to let Tedmond off the hook. But first, she needed to make sure Ottis got the blood he needed to recover. She could come back for Tedmond later.“Let’s go, Mother,” Adeline said, holding Vivian’s hand. “The doctor's office is over there. Let's get you tested.”Vivian nodded. “Alright. Let’s go.”As Adeline and Vivian headed off, Adeline turned around to give the others a subtle sign. A grin spread across her face when they nodded in response. They had understood her signal. Hearing that question was enough to make Max boil with anger. He knew Tedmond was taking advantage of their grandmother’s favoritism, but he hadn’t expected it to go this far.Max’s lips parted, ready to retort, but before he could get a word out, Vivian cut him off.“There’s no need to argue. Like Tedmond said, he’s your little brother, and you have to take care of him,” she said. “Instead of letting him drive, you’ll drive.”That was when Max remembered this had happened before—only back then, he had been the one in the backseat while Tedmond was asked to drive.Biting his lip until it bled, Max couldn’t hide his frustration. Now the roles were reversed, and he was the one being asked to drive. As far as Max could recall, his grandmother had always treated him better than anyone else in the family. It had always felt natural for her to take his side. But now that her attention had shifted to Tedmond, it seemed like she no longer cared about him.‘I’m not going to accept this,’ Max t

Tedmond had seen Max angry before, but never this angry. This was the first time Max had yelled so much that he didn’t let anyone else speak.‘Was it because Grandma said she was going to give me the heir position?’ he wondered.“You think you’re better than me?” Max seethed. “You think you can just smile and pretend you’re the good guy? You’re not. You’re a snake. A bastard. A nobody trying to take my place.”Max took another step forward, now just inches from Tedmond’s face.“If you think I’m going to let this go… you’re dead wrong,” he said in a low, venomous tone. “You better watch your back, because I swear—I’ll make you regret ever stepping into this family.”Vivian, who was standing beside them, glared at Max, furious that he was saying things completely against her wishes.“That’s enough, Max!” Vivian scolded. “Go back to where you were standing.”Max whipped his head toward her, eyes bloodshot. “No! You don’t get to silence me! You started this—you betrayed me! Don’t expect m

Silence filled the room. No one had expected the grandmother to offer the position of heir to Tedmond so casually—just a few words, and everything changed.Max’s eyes widened in disbelief, his face draining of color. He knew his grandmother suffered from amnesia, but he hadn’t imagined she’d go this far—handing over his rightful place to someone like Tedmond. Not only was she willing to give away everything he had worked for, she was also casting aside her own grandson.Lisa was just as stunned, her mouth hanging open. She had never imagined this would be how Max lost everything.“You can’t do that, Grandma!” Max suddenly shouted, rising from his seat. His face was livid. “How could you give my position to him like that?!”Even Tedmond, the man at the center of it all, looked taken aback. He blinked, his lips parting slightly. Sure, he knew Grandma Vivian liked him now—thanks to the amnesia—but he hadn’t expected this. Not in a million years.“That’s right!” Lisa added quickly, standi

“Is this supposed to be a restaurant?” Tedmond asked himself, his brows furrowing. The place looked old and dirty. The walls were cracked, and some parts were black from dirt. The sign above the door was broken. One of the letters didn’t light up, and the rest blinked like it could go off at any time. The front door was small and dusty. The wood looked weak, like it could break if someone pushed hard. A broken doorbell was hanging by the side, and it didn’t have a button. There were two trash bins near the door. One was open, and a bad smell came from it.Old posters were stuck on the wall, but they were ripped and dirty. The windows had marks all over them, and the blinds inside were hanging the wrong way. “What is this place?” he said, looking at his phone again to check the address. The address was the same as the one Max had sent him, indicating that he hadn’t gone to the wrong place. But no matter how much he thought about it, the place he was standing in front of wasn’t where
