Martin stared at Tedmond with wide eyes, a sheen of sweat forming on his forehead. Nervousness hit him as he adjusted his glasses, trying to play it cool.

"I don’t understand what you’re talking about," Martin lied. "My company isn’t on the brink of bankruptcy, and our workers have already been paid. We aren’t five months behind on payments."

Tedmond peered at the man. He wouldn’t have believed him even if he hadn’t read everything about the company and Martin. Martin didn’t have the knack for lying, at least not about his company.

Thomas had indeed prepared him well.

"I’ve done my research," Tedmond said, making eye contact with Martin. "I found numerous complaints from workers at your construction sites. They’ve reported not being paid for five months."

Martin frowned. "Like I said, we’ve paid all our workers," he replied, refusing to back down. “I don’t know where you got this information from but it is wrong.”

"But you do admit that your company is on the brink of bankruptcy," Ted

As soon as the words left the man's lips, Tedmond looked at him blankly, disbelief etched across his face.“Do I look like a kidnapper to you?” Tedmond asked, glaring at the man irritably. “Even if I were to kidnap you, how much could I squeeze out of you when you have nothing and tons of debt?”Martin was taken aback by Tedmond’s tone, feeling triggered by the indirect insult.“Squeezing money out of a kidnapped person isn’t all there is to kidnapping!” Martin snapped, huffing. “Besides, let’s go back to our previous discussion since you’re making me feel like an old man.”“Fine. I’d like to purchase your company,” Tedmond said with a sigh. “Since the company has a lot of debt, tell me how much you’re willing to sell it for.”From what Tedmond had learned, he knew he shouldn’t name a price first, as he was the one purchasing.Martin stared at Tedmond. With so much debt, he wondered if his company was even worth five million dollars. Not only did he owe $300 million, but he also hadn’

“Do you have a death wish or something, kid?” Ki questioned, his gaze intensifying even more. “The owner of this building isn’t someone who would agree to meet with you just because you asked for it.”Tedmond arched his eyebrows at Ki. “But would he come out for a person who borrowed money and refused to pay?” he asked, not feeling intimidated by Ki at all.The worst Ki could do was punch him, but he knew Ki wouldn’t do that either.“He doesn’t come out like that,” Ki said, rubbing his face. “He’s the building owner and comes out whenever he wants.”Ki’s gaze was focused on Tedmond. He had made sure to sound hard and cold to scare Tedmond off. However, he had no idea that Tedmond would stay with him without getting terrified and running away.“Then how can I meet him?” Tedmond asked, his gaze serious. “I’m here for something serious, and I must speak to him.”Ki glared at Tedmond. “You can’t come in here and demand to see the boss!” he yelled. “The boss is a very busy person, and he w

Tedmond turned his head to look at Ki. 'There’s a secret code?' he thought. He had no idea there was a secret code. He had just spoken normally, as he always did. Did he manage to guess their secret code without realizing it?“Is that really important now?” Tedmond questioned, making sure not to let any emotions show on his face.He could tell Ki was still wary of him, but there was no way he would admit he had merely guessed the secret code. There must be some sort of benefit that comes with knowing it.“Isn’t it suspicious, boss?” Ki asked Joe. “He just showed up out of nowhere. This is the first time he’s been here, but he already knows the secret code?”Joe glanced at Ki, then back at Tedmond. “I don’t think so. The ones who know the secret code are the only ones who would come into the company and ask for me. I don’t find it suspicious at all. After all, an acquaintance of his might be a regular here.”Ki frowned at Joe’s indifference. “He might be a kid, but he could’ve been sen

“Young master!” Thomas yelled, beaming as he saw Tedmond walk out of the building.Tedmond frowned at Thomas, who seemed teary-eyed just from seeing him unharmed.“You came back fine!” Thomas cried out, hurrying over. “They didn’t do anything to you, did they?”Thomas circled Tedmond, checking him up and down for any injuries.“You’re fine. I thought they’d do something to you. I was ready to fight back,”Thomas claimed. “What did you go in there for?”Tedmond walked to the car and got in. Thomas followed immediately and sat in the front seat. He started the car and began driving before Tedmond finally answered the question.“I went to purchase the company,” Tedmond said.Thomas slammed on the brakes, nearly throwing himself forward. He broke into a cold sweat, his heart pounding.“What?” Thomas questioned, glancing back at Tedmond, whose expression was indifferent.“I went in there to buy the company,” Tedmond repeated.“You just walked in and offered to buy their company?!” Thomas ex

“We are here,” Tedmond said, pulling the car into the parking lot of the high-end restaurant. “She must be waiting inside.”Bianca opened her hand wide, waiting for him to unbuckle her seat belt before speaking.“Did you book a reservation?” she asked.“I did,” he replied.“Aren’t you showing her your wealth too soon?” Bianca questioned. “Grandpa said you shouldn’t let your date know you’re wealthy at first.”Tedmond eyed her. “Trust me, Persis isn’t that type of girl. She’s got her own money.”“Hmm.” Bianca gave him a suspicious stare. “I’ll see her for myself before I believe you.”“Okay!” he replied, wondering why her grandfather would tell her such things so soon. But, on the other hand, he liked that he did because it made her stand up for herself earlier than necessary.*****Getting into the restaurant, Tedmond held Bianca by the arm as she pouted.“I can carry you if you want,” he told her.She shook her head, trying to act strong. “I can walk! Why would you carry a five-year-

The woman immediately turned around to look at the man who had just spoken. She gulped when she saw him there. If Tedmond and the others said something bad about her, she might lose her job.“Nothing is going on, sir,” the woman lied, hurrying to meet the manager. “I was just about to take them to the reserved room they booked.”The manager turned his gaze to Persis, even though he had heard the woman’s explanation. “Is anything the matter, ma’am?” he questioned.Bianca frowned. “Are you going to send that filler-lips woman away or let her serve us?” she questioned, her gaze serious. “If you want to keep her here, then we will leave this place and blacklist it so thoroughly it won’t be able to operate anymore.”The manager flinched, intimidated by a five-year-old. The woman turned pale.Tedmond was stunned by Bianca’s threat. Even Persis turned her head to look at Bianca, a shocked expression on her face. She thought Tedmond might stop Bianca from saying such things, but instead, he o

Persis stared at Tedmond for a moment, considering his words. “Yes, I’ll be okay talking to them until you arrive. It wouldn’t be that bad, would it?”Bianca glanced at Persis with a raised brow. “Yas? What a weird way of saying yes.”Persis grinned silently. She spoke like that to ensure Bianca was paying attention to her. She was right—there was no way Bianca would dislike her.“If that’s okay with you, then that’s alright,” Tedmond replied. “I’ll go to the company as planned, but I’d like it if you wore a mask with a camera. That way, I can see their faces and listen to the conversation.”Persis frowned slightly. “That’s kind of creepy. Listening to me talk to the family who didn’t treat you well? It feels wrong.”She refused the idea, not wanting Tedmond to hear the tough time she intended to give his family. It would also be embarrassing for him to hear everything she planned to say. Tedmond could already guess her reason for refusing, and it amused him. Leaving two sharp-tongued

Their eyes brightened as they saw the name on the caller ID. The insult glaring from the screen silenced them momentarily, but the tension in the room only thickened.“It’s Tedmond,” Max confirmed, his voice a mix of relief and resentment. “He finally called.”“I’m going to give him a piece of my mind after this!” Madison yelled, crossing her arms. “How dare he contact us so late? Does he want us to lose favor with his so-called baby mama? He’s playing games with the entire family!”Harold’s lip curled in disdain as he answered the call, gripping the phone tightly. His voice dripped with venom. “What do you want, you ungrateful bastard? You kept the entire family waiting like fools!”Tedmond’s calm voice came through the speaker, unaffected by Harold’s fury. “Good evening, Father. I see you’re as composed as ever.”“Don’t waste my time with pleasantries, Tedmond!” Harold barked. “Why are you calling now? Do you think your antics amuse anyone here?”“I’m calling to let you know the mee

No one knew what to say or how to start. They had been sure he wasn’t the real person, but now that the truth was out, they were both shocked and terrified of what would happen to them.Ms. Kurt's breath hitched, and she took an unconscious step back, her once-confident expression crumbling. The realization that she had insulted the head of the Washington family—twice—sent chills down her spine."I-I…" Hans stammered, his fingers trembling as he gripped the card. His mind raced for an excuse, a way to backtrack, but the proof was undeniable. He had been the one who claimed Tedmond wasn’t the real person. If only he had kept his mouth shut when everyone believed Tedmond, he wouldn’t have so much to deal with now.Persis folded her arms, tilting her head slightly as she regarded them with an unimpressed gaze. "Well?" she drawled. "Is that enough proof for you all, or do you need him to bring his birth certificate too?"At the mention of the birth certificate, both of them hurriedly shoo

Persis peered at Lenny, her brows furrowing. She had just revealed his real identity, yet everyone refused to believe her, convincing themselves he wasn’t who she claimed.Tilting her head to the side, she nodded. “He is Julius Washington, and we are engaged to be married.”Lenny’s face turned pale, and he gripped Persis’s shoulder. He was so terrified that he had insulted a Washington that he didn’t even register the second part of her sentence about being engaged to Tedmond.“Are you sure he’s really the one?” Lenny asked. At that moment, Hans spoke up. In his mind, he couldn’t allow more people to be deceived by Persis and Tedmond.“He isn’t Julius Washington. No one knows what Julius looks like, so why would he have a mask on in the first place? He’s someone tons of people look up to. Since you first saw him as a driver, then that must be what he is.”“That’s right,” a woman murmured. “You already saw him as a driver, so he isn’t Mr. Washington.”“He’s just an imposter.”“I can’t

The words brought silence to the room, and everyone began nodding. Tedmond glared at the man who had just spoken. It was clear they wanted him to reveal his face—something he had no intention of doing.“He’s right,” one of the guests said. “We haven’t seen Mr. Washington's face, and this one is wearing a mask. How can we be sure it’s him?”“He must have come here to fool us.”“If Hans is telling the truth, then he must have also fooled Miss Damon and made her think he’s Mr. Washington,” a woman stated, her voice louder than the rest. She held a wine glass in her hand and wore a dark green dress. “He must have come to the party without an invitation, too.”“If he turns out to be an imposter, what should we do?” a man questioned.Hans grinned. Just as he had expected, the others were beginning to doubt the man in front of them. Although Tedmond had acted and spoken like a Washington, Hans knew how to spot a faker.Ms. Kurt raised her head to look at Tedmond, a frown crossing her face. S

Tedmond's eyes snapped to the man the moment the words left his lips. Fiancé? There had been marriage offers for her? Was that why she had suddenly asked him to marry her?Just by looking at the people speaking to them, he could already tell what kind of person the so-called little brother was.The first woman—Ms. Kurt. That was when Persis finally remembered who she was.She was one of the reasons Persis avoided events like this. Ms. Kurt had once tried to set her younger brother up with Persis—something she despised. If she had known she would run into Ms. Kurt at the party, she would have asked Mr. Cain to revoke her invitation altogether.“It isn’t nice to bring a lowlife to a party, dress him up, and then reject Ms. Kurt’s offer like this,” the man added. “It would be better if your partner left. We’d make sure no one spreads rumors about you bringing a nobody as your date.”They were certain she wasn’t involved with anyone. And since they didn’t recognize the man with her, they

How could she forget? They had spent hours together as kids. He had always been there, always admired her. He thought she would at least hold some memory of him, even if it was faint. But the way she had looked at him—like he was just some random guy—made his stomach churn. And that driver.Lenny’s jaw tightened as he recalled the way Persis had clung to Tedmond, how she had locked hands with him so easily as if he meant something to her. He had assumed Tedmond was just a hired worker, someone beneath their world. But Persis had stood beside him, defended him, and left wi

Back outside, Tedmond continued to ignore the brown-haired man. No matter how loud or insistent he was, Tedmond glanced at his wristwatch, checking the time.“Hey! You’re just an ordinary driver.”Just then, the sound of clicking heels drew their attention. Both men turned toward the source of the sound.Persis was stepping out of the building. The brown-haired man’s face lit up, and he rushed toward her. “You’re here!”However, she brushed right past him and stopped in front of Tedmond.Holding his hand, she peered up at him with a bright smile. The brown-haired man froze, his face turning pale. As soon as the words left the man’s lips, Tedmond gave him a blank expression. He had never seen the man before and had no idea who he was. However, one question caught his attention. The man had just asked what he was doing in a house that was supposed to belong to someone else. Holding roses and mentioning Persis' name was enough for Tedmond to understand what the man wanted and what was going on.“Even if you’re a driver picking us up, why are you so damn dressed up like that?” the man demanded, pointing the bouquet of flowers at Tedmond. “Why are you overdressed? Are you trying to seduce your boss?”Hearing the man’s question, Tedmond arched a brow and glared at him. They didn’t know each other, yet the man had the audacity to make assumptions.“If you’re done delivering the flowers, you can leave,” Tedmond replied. “Or hand them over—I’ll give them to her when she gets here. It wouldn’t be right to keep you waiting when you have other jobs to do.”As soon as Tedmond spoke, the ma

"Not only did you cause trouble for me when you were in this house, but now you’re causing even more trouble from the outside!"Running a hand through his hair, he turned toward the door."If he’s Father’s backup son, then I’ll just have to get rid of him," he muttered.
