Chapter 250

Jason leaned against the window a bit longer, his breath fogging up the glass as the chill from outside seeped into the room. The empty street was still; the occasional flicker of a streetlight the only sign of life beyond the mansion. His thoughts spun in circles, but he forced himself to calm down, knowing that agitation wouldn’t help him pinpoint the threat.

He exhaled, pushing off the windowsill, and made his way back toward the bed. The woman shifted slightly under the duvet, her face still relaxed, peaceful, and unaware of the turmoil swirling inside him. Jason stopped at the edge of the bed, watching her for a few moments. For someone who spent most of his life in control, it was strange how easily things could spiral when the unknown came knocking.

His phone buzzed on the nightstand, its soft vibration cutting through the silence. Jason reached for it, his eyes narrowing when he saw the name flash across the screen—Gerald. Of course, it would be him at this hour.
