Marylin was standing in front of the wooden door that led into her grandfather’s study.

Her heart was beating so quick and her mind was filled with different emotions, each one more confusing than the last.

She took a breath before calmly knocking on the door. Today is the day. It’s the day where she’ll finally ask her grandfather.

“Come in.” Matthew Kingsleys voice called out from his study, as usual, his voice soft and calming. A contrast to the knots that formed in Marylin’s stomach.

Her hands were trembling as she turned the doorknob.

The study was full of mahogany bookshelves, and a desk in the center, with two chairs facing it.

Matthew, who was sitting behind his desk, looked up at her. His expression softened. And his face formed into the smile that always calmed down Marylin.

“Mary. ”Her grandfather said, gesturing for her to come closer. “What brings you here, sweetheart?”

Marylin’s smiled as she walked towards his desk. She took a seat on the chair that faced his.

“An affair?” Elijah’s voice was low, close to a whisper, the disbelief he felt was evident on his face, and his heart dropped, so low it felt like it would fall out. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. Eleanor’s tears began to fall, and her tone got louder with every word. “Yes, an affair! Tell me, Elijah, why?! Why have you been taking your calls in another room? Why do you hide your messages when I’m nearby? And every time, every single time, it’s a work call! Do you think I’m stupid?” Elijah was stuck in his place, her words heavy in his ears. He had only seen tears in the eyes of Eleanor once before. At grandmother Henrietta’s funeral, when they both stood in silence, in mourning. But today, her tears were because of him, and the realization made his heart ache. “El,” he said softly, taking a step closer to her. His tone was urgent, almost pleading. “No, Eleanor, I promise you, I would never. I would never do something like that.” He thought of the promise he had made t

Eleanor sat alone in her room. She had just gotten out of the shower, and she was currently sitting at the vanity, brushing through her damp hair. Her gaze was on the mirror, looking at her reflection, which stared back at her. She was zoned out, and her movements were almost robotic. Carlos’s words from earlier were replaying in her mind like a tape on repeat. She had told him all about the fight last night and her reasons for such suspicions. And Carlos’s response was, ‘“I understand, Ellie. But I don’t think I agree with you. You know Elijah more than I do, but come on, this is Elijah we’re talking about, the man who refused to divorce you, withstanding three years of torment from our family. The man who was offered money to save his mom in exchange for a divorce but still refused, the man who was buried in poverty, offered millions, but yet still refused. A man who stayed loyal to grandmother’s will… I refuse to believe he would ever have an affair.”’ Eleanor let out a sig

It was Carlos, walking towards him with hands shoved into the pockets of his jacket. He and Carlos had become closer the past few days, Carlos was always at the guesthouse these days, eve

As his feet hit the ground, he was greeted by a line of black luxury cars pulling up in front of the jet. It was like out of a movie. From the cars descended guards all dressed professionally in black suits. Upon forming a straight line, the guards all bowed so low that you could place a plate on their back and it would stay.“Welcome, young master.” They all said, their voices overlapping. Elijah only nodded, though the scene in front of him was new and strange. And the first thing he said to himself was, ‘Geez, this is going to take some time to get used to.’ One of the men rose, stepping slightly forward, but he still kept his gaze down. “Mr. Windsor has instructed us to take you to your penthouse so you can res
