The Boss

"You can't humiliate my boss in my presence." Were the words that came out of Richard's mouth leaving Liana completely dumbfounded.

"What? Your boss?" Liana asked in disbelief.

Chris stood there frozen, he tried to mask his confusion with a smirk on his face as he was the one to mock Liana with a mockery smile on his face. Liana almost lost it as she tried to make her husband get up but he pushed her away for the second time.

"I'm so sorry, sir. I didn't recognize you on the day of the graduation ceremony. Please accept my apology, boss." Richard bowed.

Everyone gasped.

Liana's mother came out of the room after waiting patiently for the bride and the groom and they didn't show up, she decided to come get them herself.

"What's going on here?" She asked, angry etched in her face.

Liana went to meet her mother, her hands trembling and her legs threatened to cut off. Her movements weren't stable until her mother helped her posture.

"Mother, can you see what Richard is doing? He's bowing to this pauper and calling him boss. To crown it all, he slapped me because of him. I'm humiliated." Liana cried as she rested her head on her mother's shoulder with the woman patting her hair.

Richard stood up as he continued apologizing to Chris who didn't know how the table turned suddenly.

"Accept my apology, sir," Richard said, his voice gentle and calm.

"Richard, what's this pauper doing in my daughter's wedding and why are you apologizing to him?" Liana's mother asked furiously with Liana wailing beside her.

Richard turned towards his mother-in-law and explained everything to her. "Mother, this man standing behind me is not an ordinary man. He's the grandson of the chairman of RIC CORPORATION."

"RIC CORPORATION?!" Liana and her mother said in unison as disbelief etched on their faces. They both exchanged glances at each other as they turned to look at Chris who was still trying to process the whole situation in his head. He was still thinking about how he'd get the wine stain off his white sleeve as he knew how expensive it must be and the trouble his grandfather passed through to get it for him.

Richard nodded in response as he stood beside Chris. "This is Christopher Valgar. You need to apologize to him. I'm just a mere servant of his because Evans Group HR was given to me by his grandfather and he is the heir to the RIC Corporation. I recently found out about it. If not, I wouldn't have accepted Liana since she was his long-time girlfriend." He explained.

Liana's breath was hitched as she processed the words that came out of Richard's mouth in her head. "This can't be. Chris's father owed a huge debt before his demise so he can't be related to the multimillionaire chairman."

Liana's mother nodded in agreement to what her daughter said.

Richard rolled his eyes at them and gestured for Chris to speak up for himself but he knew they wouldn't stop at nothing to mock him even though he eventually stood up for himself. "Liana, this wedding was sponsored by the chairman of RIC CORPORATION. Everything's connected to Christopher Valgar as he's the heir of the firm."

The colleagues excused themselves as they dashed out of the wedding, the same goes for the others leaving just the family and the humiliated man at the wedding reception. Liana's face turned crimson as she felt like slapping the hell outta Chris for ruining her wedding but him as the heir of the large firm was something she couldn't believe and would never believe.

"Everything about this marriage preparation and all that was sponsored by the chairman, so I urge you to apologize to the boss," Richard instructed.

"My daughter wouldn't apologize to a low-level man like this. Don't be blind, Richard. He is not the heir, he's an imposter." Liana's mother yelled, pulling Liana back as the latter rested on her mother, finding comfort in her warmth.

Richard face palmed himself, his gaze locked with that of Larry who was his best man and also his best friend. With eye contact, he pleaded with Larry as he needed a helping hand since these people weren't convinced that Christopher Valgar was the heir to the RIC CORPORATION.

With a sigh, Larry approached the commotion as he addressed the issue with a calm composure.

"Ma'am, Christopher Valgar is the heir of RIC Corporation. If the chairman finds out that his grandson was being humiliated in Richard's wedding, Richard would lose both Evans Group and his wealth." Larry said, massing his temple with his index finger.

Liana and her mother gasped at Larry's words. If that was true then Chris was indeed the chairman's grandson but they needed proof.

"Isn't the pauper going to say anything to defend himself?" Liana barked.

"Don't address him as a pauper. Apologize to him." Richard warned but Liana was reluctant.

"I urge you to apologize now, I wasn't expecting the turn of events too as I'm just finding out about it," Larry added.

Both mother and daughter were short of words as they kept examining Chris from the crown of his head to the soles of his feet. He stood there, frozen, his mouth shut. Even Chris, himself didn't know how things got out of hand.

It was him being humiliated by Liana and now she was the one being humiliated and intimidated by the revelation of his true identity.

He was supposed to say something to the back of the duo but he didn't know what to say, his brain stopped processing any words at that moment. He looked at the mother and daughter who were still disgusted by his presence. While thinking about all the pain Liana has caused him, Chris thought of speaking up for himself.

It was now or never.

He needed to prove to them how worthy he was and this made him remember his grandfather's words. Is the old man a seer or something? How did he know this was going to happen? Thinking about it, it was time to act up.

"Yes, I am the heir of the RIC CORPORATION," Chris announced making both the mother and daughter's eyes widen in disbelief.
