Darkness collapsed around the temple like a vice, suffocating and relentless. The Phantom King’s presence was a blade slicing through the air, his cold aura sapping the warmth from the ancient stone walls. The wraiths that had been clawing at the barrier surged forward now that the protection had failed, their hollow eyes glowing with cruel anticipation.

Aila’s golden light flared defiantly in her palms, but it flickered dangerously, like a candle threatened by a storm. Her body screamed with exhaustion, every muscle on the verge of collapse, but her spirit roared in defiance. The ember of hope that refused to die burned brighter in her chest.
