Chapter 06 - Convincing the Oldman

Mike was someone who always tried to think out of the box, he always challenged the impossible and did the unthinkable.

Every time he encountered a wall, his excitement only increased by thinking about the ways to counter it. He didn't become famous just by luck, his countless experiments, models, theories...He was someone who had extreme patience and determination.....even to the extent of creating a useless ass scrubber by waking up day and night just because it was interesting.

But right now~

"F*ck! why the hell did this pipe have so many holes?"

He was getting frustrated by seeing the items that he was provided to do something 'useful'. The three-inch pipe that he took from the pile of items had numerous large holes in it and it didn't seem to be damaged due to some experiments but rather looked like some hor*y pervert's work.

"and what is with this chain?"

The rusty chain was so docile that if he just pulled it a bit from both ends it would snap into pieces!

Each and every item were either damaged or in very bad shape and with these items, he was thinking of making some sh*t.

"Isn't these too bad, even for trash items?"

What he was trying to make was a hand pump!

He noticed that even when there are Engineers in this world the knowledge they had wasn't anything special except what 10th-grade children would have thought in the real world.

It was normal considering that everyone playing the game wasn't a professional like Michael. The majority of them would be normal people or lazy people (like us!) who loathe doing any work so if the game developer made something like learning Newton's law necessary for the class upgrade then the game was confirmed to flop! so they purposefully lowered the advancement of the world.

"This won't do..."

Mike got up from amid the trash that he was sitting, as he made his way towards the Oldman who was as usual busy with his 'Part Time' job.

He just went straight in front of him as he shouted at him,

"Sir I need a cast-iron tube, a long iron chain, and also allow me to use the lathe and welding machine", He didn't even beat around the bush as he came straight to the point.

"Hoho...I am surprised that a newbie is this enthusiastic about the work. but you know rules are rules, newbies are not allowed to touch any machines powered by mana"

The Oldman's face was bright as usual as he explained to Kyle that it was not possible for him to use them before he geta a class.

"Why is it not allowed? is it because I am inexperienced that I may damage the machines? don't worry I might not look like it but I am actually an expert"

Mike said in a proud manner still looking at the Oldman with resolute eyes.

"Yeah~~yeah~~ whatever but you are not allowed to touch them until you get a class"

"Sir you know what? You are crushing a genius by making these types of restrictions. Do you know how much potential I have? Do you even know much I can grow in the time you are telling me to waste by fighting like a barbarian? Do you even know the value of time? For every second the universe is expanding by 46 miles, every second numerous lives are being born and dying, for each second at least 350 pizzas are eaten. How can you say that I have to waste time fighting and getting a class when all these can happen in one second?"

Mike looked at the old man's eyes as he went on saying whatever came to his mind.

"Why is the pizza bought into this now....;;"

Beads of sweat were visible on the old man's face, he was dumbfounded by this young man who was going on and on about things that he didn't even know.

"Ignore the last part.."

"..."

The Oldman was speechless by this man who was spouting bullshit, but he felt the sincerity of his heart, his desire to work, his passion, he could feel the enthusiasm of the Engineer in Mike.

'Maybe allowing him won't be a problem?'

"Tell me why you need that? I will consider it after I heard you"

The smile on Oldman's face disappeared as he got serious.

"I want to make a handpump", But Mike was still resolute.

"Hand pump? Do you mean the thing that will help to draw water from underground?"

The Oldman asked in confusion.

"Yeah! That" Mike's face brightened as he breathed a sigh of relief.

'At least they know what a hand pump is’

"Doesn't that thing usually cost a fortune, only a few larger cities of our kingdom have that, not to mention the mana stones that need to supply energy"

The Oldman said as he was advising some reckless junior not to waste his energy on useless things.

"huh?"

"What, huh?"

"You mean the Handpump is supplied energy to pull up the water through mana stones?"

Mike asked as he was quite shocked by the revelation.

"Yeah! isn't that common knowledge?"

Mike facepalmed himself, it seemed like the presence of mana in this world has not only regressed the development of Science but also made people stupid, wasting energy on something that wasn't even needed.

"I will be making a mechanical pump that doesn't need any mana stones"

"hooo!!"

"Just pumping it will be enough"

He explained to the Oldman so that he could get him to let him use the machines.

"but still....." the Oldman was still reluctant to let him use the machines. but Mike wasn't the one to give up,

" Also think about the money you could make! after making the hand pump, you could charge people for drawing water, even if it is a small amount, more people will use it as time goes on, and money will roll in while you just have to sit back and relax. wouldn't that be great?"

"hmm...Wait a minute...."The Oldman's eye sparkled at the mention of money as he ran inside the workshop and came back after a minute holding a large paper and a pencil.

"Draw a basic blueprint of that! if it is indeed as amazing as you say, then I will let you use the machines"

The Oldman was looking at Mike with expectation as he handed over the pencil and paper.

Mike also didn't waste any time as he took them and jumped to action right away.

The first invention of Michael....no Mike, the Jobless engineer.

It was the beginning of changes that would bring new tides in 'Genesis'. his career as an engineer had just begun once again...
