I turned on my heel, again without saying goodbye or thinking of any last words. Either way, I was sure he didn't care if we didn't have a good send-off, or if we ever saw each other again or not. So I shouldn't be interested either. I would see later the way to get him away from my family, and to protect them. There had to be one. If I needed to mop the floor in my house with holy water so he wouldn't come near, I would.

Even at my distance, I managed to hear his voice.

"Amy…" he murmured, but I forced my legs forward, paying no attention to him, "do you want to know why Mabrax called me a freak ?"

I stopped short. Something in my chest reacted the wrong way. Ignoring the warning screaming in the back of my mind, I looked over my shoulder at him.

I hadn't managed to get too far away either, although there was a slight possibility that he had followed me, but I didn't think about that. My thoughts drifted in the tentative direction of curiosity.
