His eyes narrowed suspiciously.

"He could read your mind?"

"No…" I hesitated. I didn't… dared to ask him. B-but I'm sure I couldn't.

He nodded slowly.

Then he took a step back and, his face uncompromising, his gaze traveled the entire length of my body.

"Did he do something to you?"

An alien feeling—unknown, but I wasn't interested in understanding—squeezed my stomach at the intensity with which he looked at me.

"N-no," I muttered.
