Chapter 1. The Clark Family Slave

Fenrir winced at Zeldris' kick.

"Hold on little dirty slave, don't let my feet step in the mud. "

Zeldris ordered Fenrir to lie prone on the mud so that he could pass through.

"Come on you guys step on Fenrir too, do you want to get your feet in the mud?"

Zeldris' friends who were also children of noble families did as Zeldris said, they laughed every time they stepped on Fenrir one by one.

"Young master Zeldris, the great lord Gildart summons you to his chambers."

A servant of the Clark family approached Zeldris while whispering something. Zeldris immediately left leaving his friends and Fenrir.

"Are you alright, Fenrir?"

Mrs. Freya, one of the Clark family's servants, approached Fenrir and tried to help Fenrir clean himself from the mud.

"This is normal for me Mrs. Freya. Thank you Mrs. Freya, you are the only one here who would help a slave like me. "

Fenrir felt grateful that there was a Mrs. Freya in this world, because since 6 years of being in the Clark family only Mrs. Freya still considered him a human being.

"Come to my cottage tonight Fenrir, I'll cook you some boiled potato soup. Isn't it your 15th birthday today?"

"Really, Mrs. Freya? I don't know how long it's been since I've eaten such good food." Fenrir's eyes lit up, imagining eating Mrs. Freya's potato soup.

"Yes, now clean yourself up and go to Mr. Pedro's place, he is looking for you."

Fenrir nodded, then hurried away as directed by Mrs. Freya.

It had been six years since Fenrir became a slave in the noble Clark family. The first time Fenrir came was when he was 9 years old. He was bought by the Clark family from a slave auction in the Balmuth Empire area. The Balmuth Empire was one of the 5 Empires on the continent.

The auctioneer labeled Fenrir as, "A human from an ancient civilization with crystal blue eyes." Along with Fenrir was also sold a book with an unknown language that only Fenrir himself could read, the auctioneer called it: "The magic book of 1000 years."

However, noble Clark felt cheated by the auctioneer because in fact Fenrir had no magic at all and when Fenrir read the book it was just a fairy tale about dragon riders.

"Items that have been purchased cannot be returned, sir," said the auctioneer at the time.

"But what you say is not true, are you trying to cheat me?" One of the Clark family didn't take it well.

"We never cheat customers, you should be wiser in buying goods, right sir?"

That's what now makes Fenrir a slave who is considered useless, even lower than trash.

--------------

Fenrir had a tradition of reading a chapter of his book once a year, this was one of the things his mother had told him, and Fenrir himself also felt it was a way of celebrating his birthday. The book itself was the only legacy his mother had left, so her will was very precious to him.

Fenrir took Mrs. Freya's clothes that he kept. Fenrir only wore it when there was an important event because he only had 3 pairs of shabby clothes and 1 shirt given by Mrs. Freya. Not forgetting Fenrir brought his mother's fairy tale book to read with Mrs. Freya.Impressed childishly, but without realizing it Fenrir always looked forward to reading every continuation of the book because it made his a little reminiscent of his mother.

Fenrir walked cheerfully towards Mrs. Freya's cottage thinking about how delicious Mrs. Freya's potato soup would be. But when Fenrir was almost at the cottage, he noticed something strange, the cottage was dark like no one was inside.

Fenrir approached the door and knocked on it, trying to call Mrs. Freya from behind the door.

"Fenrir get out of here!" Mrs. Freya shouted in a loud voice and seemed to be in danger.

Fenrir who heard spontaneously opened the door which turned out to be unlocked, he saw a man in a black hood holding a knife and pointing his knife at Mrs. Freya.

Fenrir ran towards the man trying to save Mrs. Freya, but the man turned out to be more alert, the man managed to kick Fenrir until he fell and fell down dropping the book he was carrying.

Fenrir tried to grab the book that was not far from his reach, just a few more inches he could reach it, but the deep wound he received from the man's kick made his grimace in pain.

Bugh!

A kick hit Mrs. Freya's solar plexus who was trying to protect Fenrir, making Mrs. Freya not even let out a scream and lay helpless. Fenrir who saw it all could only shout Mrs. Freya's name.

"Mrs. Freya!"

The person walked over to Fenrir. Fenrir again tried to grab his mother's book again, at least he didn't want to lose his mother's gift when he was about to die.

"I'll read the last chapter, at least I won't die in regret," Fenrir thought to himself.

Fenrir read the last chapter of the book aloud, hoping that his mother could hear him from heaven and hoping that when he died, he would meet his mother again.

But a strange thing happened, suddenly a rumbling sound was heard and the ground began to tremble, the person who had been walking towards Fenrir momentarily stopped his steps and moved back slightly when he noticed a black circular shadow emerging from the ground, and when the circle was fully formed, a woman with a petite stature with light green hair emerged from the center of the circle.

"Who has disturbed my long sleep?" The woman said as she looked around her.

"Looks like it's you, little man? Quickly tell me, what do you want?" asked the woman who threw her annoyed words at Fenrir.

Fenrir who was already in pain with his last consciousness asked the woman for help.

"Please protect Mrs. Freya," said Fenrir just before his vision became blurry, who knew who the woman was, all he could think about was asking for help and could only hope that the woman would be able to help him.

"Argh!!!"

The sound of howling was the last thing Fenrir heard before his body finally fell to the ground.
