God hunter system : the poor hunter

Arcus is a realm where urban and fantasy mingle. These two worlds live on the fringes of each other, but it happens that monsters and demons find themselves in the human world. These events are called rifts.

Rifts are a constant threat to human life. To overcome this threat, God has created a system allowing humans to defend themselves against monsters and demons: the God Hunter system.

This system grants chosen humans supernatural strength and skills to fight against monsters and demons.

The chosen humans can develop their skills until they reach high ranks, giving them privileges in society. However, the more powerful they become, the more arrogant the hunters become, and they begin to abuse their power over normal humans.

[Name: Fanel

Hunter Rank: E

Guild: Flawless

Skill: Instant Wound Regeneration.]

Fanel could add, [Title : The weakest]. He laughed. Fanel is 20 and has already been in this guild for three years. Unfortunately, despite his will and determination, Fanel is considered the weakest of hunters, which results in a complete lack of self-confidence of the other members of the guild.

Due to this perceived weakness, Fanel is not assigned any missions. No one wants to have him as a partner for missions exploring dungeons or fighting rifts. The other hunters prefer him to more competent companions, leaving Fanel with a constant feeling of exclusion.

The tasks entrusted to him within the guild are far from rewarding. Fanel thus finds himself confined to housework and menial tasks, serving the other hunters and acting like a simple minion without recognition or gratitude for his work.

Most of his time in the guild was spent cleaning equipment and rooms, organizing things, and often serving as a punching bag for those who needed a "sparring partner."This situation confronts him daily with contempt and bullying from his colleagues, making his life deeply horrible.

It was another one of those mornings when Fanel was cleaning his colleagues' equipment. He hated these thankless tasks, which had nothing to do with his status as a hunter, but it was the only way for him to stay in the guild. And maybe one day he will have the chance to participate in a mission. He does not lose hope that one day he will have the trust of others and that he will be called on a mission.

He watched in his cell as the Behemoth Guild went to deal with a rift this morning. They are truly amazing, even though they seem unattainable. He smiled telling himself that the rift wouldn't last long, that's when he felt his body being lifted and banged against the wall.

**Bang!**

A thud was heard, and everyone turned to watch the scene. It was Reinhard, a B-class hunter, who was once again bullying Fanel.

"You bitch, where's the food I asked you to bring me?" He screamed, grabbing Fanel's neck and almost suffocating him.

"Stop, you're suffocating me." Fanel tried to free himself from Reinhard's grip, which only angered him more.

"You useless, talentless shit... how dare you order me around?" Reinhard spoke, throwing Fanel against the wall as if he were just a twig.

It was easy for Reinhard, as he was twice as tall and strong as Fanel, making it effortless for him to overpower and throw him as if he were a mere piece of paper.

Fanel's body hit the wall with a heavy impact, creating cracks between the surface and his body.

Reinhard stood above Fanel's body, putting his foot on his head.

"I think he passed out," one hunter next to Reinhard sneered, as the others chuckled.

"And if he was dead, haha, would you have a problem, boss?" He spoke with a mocking laugh as Reinhard spat to the side.

"What are you afraid of? He's just useless sh*t. If he dies, it's not too bad."

Reinhard rubbed his foot on Fanel's hair, seemingly wiping his sole on his victim's hair. "Besides, do you think that I would have problems with the guild or justice if I killed such shit? I'm a B-rank hunter, while that talentless shit hasn't even leveled up to an E-rank."

He lifted his foot off Fanel's head before crushing his hand.

"Come on, wake up, you little slut. How dare you leave me hungry? Don't you know I need my morning meal?"

He crushed Fanel's hand until it bled as Fanel looked up.

"The vending machine is right in front of you," Fanel said, outraged that the vending machine was right in front of them and Reinhard still wanted him to bring him his meal. How much did he enjoy tormenting him?

Reinhard didn't take kindly to this response and hit Fanel in the abdomen, causing him to spit blood.

"You bastard, how dare you complain? Talentless shitheads like you are only fit to serve as slaves to skilled hunters like me. Bringing me food, washing my clothes—it's an honor for you," Reinhard spoke, as Fanel gritted his teeth. His face was on the ground, tortured and humiliated once again. He looked around the guild hall, seeing people's disgusted expressions mirrored by Reinhard and his gang. As for the others, they acted as if he didn't exist.

They preferred to look elsewhere rather than acknowledge him. Fanel caught the eye of the guild leader, who gave him a contemptuous look.

Fanel still remembered his words.

"If I haven't kicked you out of my guild yet, it's because you make me feel sorry for you. I pity you. Other than my guild, no one else would be stupid enough to recruit a loser like you. So make yourself small and assist the other hunters as they ask you," the guild leader had said with disdain.

Fanel gritted his teeth. Why, out of all the hunters chosen by the God Hunter system, was he the one who received such lousy power? Why must he suffer the contempt of other hunters when he was one too?

Fanel tried to straighten up, but Reinhard landed another kick.

"What stubborn shit do we have here? Stay down, vermin. That's where you belong."

Fanel clutched his stomach in pain as he writhed.

For what? Why did he have to obtain this pathetic power that doesn't even help its possessor? If it was going to give him such weak power, the God Hunter system would have been better off leaving him as a normal human.

He closed his eyes as tears stung them.

He remembered when he turned fifteen, the age when a human knows whether they will be raised to the rank of a hunter or remain human.

His family had been so happy for such an honor, as none of the members had had this chance before.

But his joy was short-lived when he discovered his unique ability: Instant Wound Regeneration.

It wasn't a very useful power, especially in combat situations where physical and technical qualities were required. His power was just weak, allowing him to quickly recover from minor injuries like scratches, which didn't make much of a difference in combat.

But despite this setback, he had decided to improve this unique skill, hoping to derive practical utility from it in combat. But even with his efforts, his skills as a hunter soon proved to be inferior to those of others, always putting him at the bottom of every monthly ranking.

He had tried multiple times to improve his skills by attending training sessions with renowned hunters, taking notes, and seeking their advice. He trained relentlessly to improve his physical fitness and boost his strength and fighting ability.

But in the end, nothing seemed to work, and over time, he became disheartened, enduring the cruelty of all those who took pleasure in tormenting him.

To all the hunters, especially those in his guild, he was seen as a burden and received their blatant contempt.

Being beaten, insulted, and humiliated every day had taken a toll on his morale and his status as a hunter. No group would want him for any mission.

Fanel felt alone, humiliated, and helpless.

Reinhard was about to kick him again when the Rift Alarm sounded, causing Reinhard to pull his foot away from Fanel.

"Tssk, another rift. We can't even rest, my word," he grumbled, as Fanel wondered when he would have the chance to deal with a rift.

Left alone for a moment, Fanel sat leaning against a vending machine, realizing that despite the announcement of a rift, no hunters had stepped up.

"But..."

He wanted to speak in disbelief before one of the hunters spoke up.

"I heard the Behemoths are around," one of the hunters muttered.

"What's the point of going there? They're going to have all the honors, these assholes," another chimed in.

"Haha, plus it's an SS-class Monster-type rift. I don't want to risk my life," a third hunter added.

Fanel gritted his teeth. Yes, he might not be of much use in a fight against such powerful monsters, but he could at least help the civilians and heal the injured.

Despite his battered body, he walked over to gather his gear, determined to fulfill his duty as a hunter.

He then ran out of the guild, determined to help the people in need.

He is a hunter, and it is his duty to protect and assist civilians.
