Into the Rift

Fanel just had time to close his eyes for a brief moment when he found himself standing with the rift behind him. He had been abruptly transported into this world, feeling like he had been sucked into it. However, as he stood there alone in this unknown world, he felt strangely at home.

Anyway, there was no longer any way to return to the other side since the rift opened by Kamisama was closing. Why would he even want to go back there? He had chosen to come here to learn how to master his new power, and until that was done, he would stay here. He didn't think Kamisama would let him come here if there was even a remote chance of danger. The deity cared too much for his chosen one. Moreover, Kamisama reassured him that he would be fine. Kamisama was not someone who would lie, and with his intrusive way of reading his thoughts, Fanel was sure that when he was ready, the deity would open a rift for him to return to his world... Or failing that, he would find a solution.

He took a step forward, trying to get used to this place. Everything was different here: the ground was covered with rough stones and mud, giant black rocks dotted the landscape, and impressive mountains rose on the horizon, eclipsing the sun.

The sun... Well, if he could call it that. Since this star or whatever it was, was the only luminous mass in the sky resembling the solar star he knew, he decided to call it the sun. The light diffused by this "sun" was rather dark and gloomy. It gave him the impression of a sun hidden behind another star, like a permanent eclipse.

He huffed, reminding himself that he didn't come here for sightseeing. If there was anything to learn about this world, he would do it later. For now, he needed to mark his bearings and begin his training quickly. It was a new and more hostile world, filled with mystery, and he had to be on his guard.

Fanel looked for a place to settle down and ended up choosing a spot at the edge of a river. He felt that this location was conducive to training, with its calmness and natural beauty. It wasn't as constraining as he had initially thought. The landscapes, although darker in places, were somewhat familiar, and he didn't feel completely out of place.

He looked around and spotted a cave near the stream he was next to. He cautiously entered the cave, hoping to not encounter any hostile creatures like bears or wolves that often sought refuge in human world caves.

He gulped, realizing that although he possessed this power, finding himself in the world of monsters without any prior experience was still daunting. Especially since he could come across them at any time.

He entered the cave before raising his hand to open the system window.

"Cave Analysis," he commanded.

The window presented him with the scan results of the cave, assuring him that there were no threats in the vicinity. He breathed a sigh of relief before deciding to make it his temporary dwelling. He needed at least a bed to rest on and a fire to combat the slightly chilly temperature. As for food and clothes, he knew he would have to figure that out later since he had been thrust into this world without any preparation.

He spent some time settling into the cave, starting to feel more comfortable in this environment. His heart began to embrace the situation more calmly.

Suddenly, he felt drawn to a sinister presence. This presence was overwhelming, almost suffocating, and he quickly exited the cave.

"Perimeter scanning," he commanded.

The system window displayed the results: [Approaching Monsters.]

Fanel's heart quivered as he looked to the side, his eyes widening as he saw a group of monsters advancing towards him, their eyes glinting with malevolent intent. Fanel prepared himself, his power ready to be used, but he knew he shouldn't use it impulsively. He hadn't even mastered it yet.

The monsters closed in, their claws ready to attack. Fanel closed his eyes, focusing on his breathing. He could feel their energy, but he knew he shouldn't succumb to fear. He could do it. He could learn to control his power and defend himself against these creatures. He had to, in order to fulfill the mission entrusted to him and protect humans from all threats.

The screams of the monsters in the distance no longer frightened him; in fact, they ignited something within him. The desire to know what he was capable of, he who had always been considered a failure as a hunter. He had never had the opportunity to face monsters before, so now he would test himself. It was an excellent way to gauge his basic abilities, obtained after awakening his regeneration power, before assimilating God's Hand.

The monsters screamed as they rushed at him, a group of trolls towering over him. They must have been between four to five meters tall. One of them swung a mighty fist, but the blow had no effect on Fanel.

"How?" Fanel questioned, his body glowing with incredible energy as the system window appeared once again.

[Instant regeneration skill assimilation activated. All damages and injuries suffered by the user will be immediately fixed] the window displayed.

Fanel smiled, amazed at the evolution of his regeneration power. The possibilities seemed endless.

[Do you want to evolve Regeneration and add the Reinforcement skill to it?]the system window prompted him.

Fanel couldn't help but almost burst out laughing. "Yes, of course," he replied enthusiastically.

At that moment, a stream of energy circulated through his body, giving him exceptional strength. He looked up to see a troll raising an ax to strike him, but the weapon shattered before it even touched him.

[Force Field Activated] the system window announced.

"Is it God's Hand? I don't think my regenerative power or the boost could do that. Unless the boost is also affecting the energy around me," Fanel mused.

Fanel raised his hand to strike the troll in front of him, but before he could, something sent the monsters flying. Fanel opened his eyes to see a golden figure floating in front of him. It emitted a powerful aura, brimming with divine energy. It had the power to defeat monsters effortlessly.

Fanel knelt gratefully. He had found the answer to his question, and it was here, in this world of monsters and demons. He was going to become stronger, master his new power, and fulfill his mission.

Fanel had just beaten the trolls with disconcerting ease. In his life, he had never known that such a thing could be possible. He just remembered the comments between hunters on their return from the mission. They were all talking about how rifts with trolls were powerful and hard to fix, especially if these trolls attacked in groups of four or five individuals. But there, it had only taken him a single attack to get rid of more than ten trolls. It was obvious that he had reached an extremely high level. He smiled before feeling a few tingles in his palm."Ah, I haven't mastered this power yet… Even if the wounds are healed quickly, the discomfort remains the same." Fanel squeezed the point before opening the system window. He had to find a way to deal with both the physical pain and eradicate the discomfort of a wound once healed. If hunters learn that they can increase their stats by killing monsters, greedy and selfish as they are, some will do anything to kill as many of them as possible."They were already hungry for fame and reputation, so if they have a way to rise above the rest, no doubt they will do everything possible and unimaginable to dominate other hunters. The forest in which the race was held was lush, with little space between the trees. The trails were narrow, and it looked like it had rained. Of course, it was artificial rain since it hadn't rained the day before. This place had been created especially for the occasion. This race felt like an obstacle course, and Fanel wondered what the real obstacle course would be like."They said the candidates can do whatever they want, the main thing is to cross the finish line in the top ten," Fanel thought to himself. He watched as the trees served as obstacles, throwing off the runners. "As I thought, no surveillance cameras. They leave us to our own devices," Fanel observed, smiling. He took a high jump, finding himself on a tree branch. Below him, the runners he had slowed down began to catch up.Sitting there, Fanel watched as each runner used trickery to hinder their competitors. "It's really unfortunate, humans are so self-centered," he remarked. The frontrunners of the race stopped to

Fanel could understand the presence of so many people, and even Captain Travis was present, which denotes a concern for preservation. Qualified instructors were needed to supervise the event, give clear instructions, and ensure the safety of all participants. This should be their top priority during the course of this obstacle course. They have certainly analyzed that it would be more dangerous than leaving participants among themselves in the forest, each delivered to the malice of the others. Fanel sighed, his face still lowered before shifting slightly to the side, dodging the goblin's attack at the same time, surprising both Eylat and the goblin with the ease of his gesture. In his momentum, the goblin found himself on the ground, head first grunting in pain before rolling on the ground to be able to regain his senses following the shock. Fanel had only dodged and yet he got rid of an intermediary monster and now he returned to his activities as if nothing had happened. "The danger is not yet over. Eylat followed Fanel outside the guild as the latter took his seat on the passenger side. “Y…you’ll let me drive your car?” Fanel huffed, technically, it was just a service car that the ministry allocated to him. So technically, whether it's him or someone else driving, the main thing is that the car shouldn't be damaged. In addition, being a service vehicle, they are not at risk of being stopped by road checkpoints so it does not matter if he leaves the wheel. “No, unless you don’t know how to drive,” he insinuated, but Eylat quickly responded. “No, of course not. I know how to drive very well. I even passed my license with flying colors and…” “If that is the case, we can go,” said Fanel, cutting Eylat off in her sentence. The atmosphere in the guild was dark and silent. No one managed to work for a long time, everyone watched the newcomer with fear. No one could have imagined that Greyrat could lose to a hunter who was not of higher rank than him, but what was arguably pure was that he lost to a mere human: one of those he despises overall. It was an unparalleled humiliation for him and no one wanted to approach him, especially when he wore this black and hateful look sending a murderous aura around him. A long silence invaded the entrance hall of the guild while Fanel, his face slightly lowered, stood in front of Greyrat, who looked at him with a contemptuous smile and a look that was intended to be belittling and condescending. He was looking to test him; the normal reaction of a person insulted like that would be to give in to anger and defend himself, but Fanel also knew that it would be detrimental to him to reveal himself like that. But still, he felt a certain nostalgia for returning to this place.Memories of his years in this guild. His hopes and excitement from the first days to the decline and misery of his daily life could not be forgotten, but this was an important step in his inner healing process. He had to go through this to be able to move forward.[ Master, let me ask again, do you feel good about coming here again?] His system asked, and Fanel just chuckled."How many times are you going to ask me this question? I'm fine, plus, I'm not the same anymore. It's just that we can overcome the past but not forget it," he said, observing the entrance through which he had to pass.
