Chapter 28

After a long day's work at the factory, Alex and Daniel changed into their casual clothes, the scent of machinery and sweat lingering in the air. As they walked out of the factory together, the clinking of their boots echoed in the emptying workspace. Daniel, ever the perceptive friend, looked at Alex and asked, "So, how are you really doing, bro?" Alex offered a standard response, "I'm good, man."

Daniel, undeterred, pressed further, "Don't give me the 'I'm good' crap. How are you really holding up?" A moment of hesitation crossed Alex's face before he admitted, "I'm fine... I mean, it's not been easy living with them, but I can take it." Daniel wasn't convinced. "You sure?" Alex nodded, "Yes." Daniel, with a sly grin, remarked, "Because my couch is available for you, whenever." They both chuckled at the offer, a testament to the camaraderie they shared.
