I Must Change My Fate

A Month Later.......

I searched for him all around the earth, but he was nowhere to be found. This is what my father had warned me against. My brother is up to no good. I'm sure he is somewhere, hidden. He managed to distract me with his scent so I wouldn't be able to find him. Black had always been cunningly swift with things.

For fear of not wanting to cause our father to anger, I decided not to tell him about the fact that I hadn't seen Black. It is baffling when the realization hits me about my brother's survival on earth. He is not an earthly being to have survived on earth for more than a month.

There's only one way to find out, but I sincerely hope it is not what I'm thinking. Black can be cruel most times, but I rather prefer to believe that he's found some other way of survival on earth and not through the way I think, because if that was the case, then I fear that disaster is fast falling on earth and I will have to be quick in finding my brother so I can take him away as soon as possible.

While I was still searching for my brother, the book of souls gave me the signal of so many souls littering the earth.

I shook my head, knowing there was a lot to deal with.

I quickly teleported to the scene, to my greatest surprise, there happened to have been a terrible accident that had claimed the lives of so many mortals.

I peered down at the book of souls and it shone in both red and bright lights, indicating that there are souls to take and ones to retain. I quickly began with my duties by counting the numbers of those meant to leave and those meant to be taken. They were of equal numbers. This way, it will be easier not to leave any should wandering the surface of the earth.

I decided to begin with those whose souls should be retained. I breathed life into them and let them live. Just as I was carrying out my duties, I suddenly felt a powerful energy' which threatened to hinder my powers.

There was only one power which could counter attack mine, and it was none other than my brother's, Black.

In a rush, I teleported towards the direction where I felt the energy. Black must have noticed that I was coming for him and so, he immediately took a soul among those who are to be retained.

"Black, why are you trying to disrupt my duties?" I asked while looking around the place, hoping to find Black.

"You need to get back to where you belong, this place is not for you."

"What makes you think this place isn't for me, my naive brother?" Black's voice echoed from nowhere.

"You need to return to the immortal realm. Haven't you angered father well enough?"

"I am not you, brother. Father's anger, is but for a while. If you want to take on the duties of father for eternity, that's your call, brother, I must change my fate!"

"If you have to change your fate, you must not interfere with humans. I've been thinking about how you've managed to survive in the mortal realm for this long, so you've been feeding on the souls of those who aren't meant for death?"

"What proof do you have that I did that?"

"My proof is the souls you took just now. Do not even think you could feel me with your invisibility. I have well recorded these souls, so I'm aware when one goes missing."

I tried to make Black see reasons with me and return, but Black was unwilling to heed my calls.

"You have to go back, Black. If you hope to survive on earth by feeding on these souls, then I might as well tell you that the consequences of what you are doing now will be dire!"

"Who cares about some stupid consequences? These were the words of our father while we were younger. I'm disappointed that, up to this moment, you couldn't tell that father only told us that just to restrict us from coming to the mortal realm, don't you understand that?"

I refused to believe what Black was saying. He had always been mischievous, so there was no doubt that what he was saying was all lies.

"May I know what your purpose is for coming to the mortal realm?"

"I can tell you are desperate to find out what my plans are, but you might as well continue doing your job and watch what I do. And don't forget to tell father that you saw me in the mortal realm, but you were unable to make me come back. I could guess what would happen to you for not bringing me back. Hahahaha," Black bursts into maniacal laughter.

He knew our father would blame me for not bringing him back. I understand what Black was trying to do, but the truth is, I mustn't allow him to do exactly as he pleases, knowing the consequences there is for an immortal to be in the mortal realm and to make it worse, he had resulted to claiming the sounds of the forbidden.

I was torn between chasing after my brother and collecting the souls of those that were meant to be in the underworld.

After much contemplation, I decided to go back to collecting the souls of those who are meant to be taken.

I can always deal with my brother. My only hope was to find him sooner. Black must be returned to the immortal world, else I cannot fathom what his stay in the mortal world will cause.

It was already getting out of hand, knowing he collects forbidden souls in order to prolong his survival in the mortal world. If this was to continue, I fear the mortal world will become a disaster for mortals to live in.

What I need to do now is to find a way to prevent our father from finding out about Black until I personally take him back to where he belongs.
