CHAPTER 29

Gary had to splash water in the faces of Leah and others to wake them up. He told them what happened. Not the part where he meditated for hours but the part where he killed the human-headed spider.

Rowan was relieved that he was safe.

Sesi wished that the spider was still alive so she could have fought that monster.

Leah, on the other hand, looked at Gary and said, “Thanks for saving us.”

“You don’t have to thank me,” Gary replied, trying his best to not smile. “I only did what any of you three would have done.”

“I’m not so sure about that,” Leah said. “People can’t easily be trusted, especially not in these times when everyone’s survival is at stake. So, thank you for not abandoning us.”

While getting thanked by her made Gary happy, it also felt strange and weird that she said thank you for what he believed was only a small help that he was obligated to do as the leader of the group.
