CHAPTER FOUR

He left his bike outside as he reached his destination. He entered inside and the all place was sparkling with jewelries. And the bright lighting made the place look even more bright.

“Morning sir,” he said to the man on the counter.

“Morning,” the man replied, unconcerned.

“I want to check something. Actually sell it if it turned to be what I think it is,” he spoke as he removed the locket from his pocket. “Can you tell if it’s pure gold?” He asked.

The man took it and began to examine in it. After a few minutes, he looked back at Trevor. “Well, it’s pure gold. But it needs polishing, and that costs a lot of money. Do you have it?” He asked.

Trevor Thought about that. The only money he had right now was nothing but cents. He couldn’t even begin to imagine having a lot of money right now. He just shook his head.

“Then if you are selling, we need to deduct the money for polishing it.”

“How much are we talking about?”

“Well, I will give you a hundred dollars for it,” he spoke.

“You are kidding, right? This was to be worth at least thousands of dollars. You can’t give me that for it,” he argued. This was his best shot at changing his life. And now it seems to be going down the drain. “Come on man,” he added.

The man thought about it for a while, “hundred and fifty dollars and that is that. Take it or leave it,” he spoke and put the locket on the table.

As much as he wanted the money, he can’t sell it at such a price. He needed a lot of money if he has a chance of doing what he intended to do.

“I will leave it,” he spoke and took the locket helplessly from the table and walked out. Picked up his broken bike and began walking. Passing through different jewelry stores, but they all told him the same things.

They were all charging less than he thought. And he couldn’t just sell it at such a price. What was the point of selling it if it wasn’t going to make a big difference in his life? It was pointless.

He walked back home, thinking about what he was going to do next. He stands a chance of losing his wife if he doesn’t do something to make them know he wasn’t a loser at all. Something that will help him with everything.

But at the moment, all Hope seems to have been lost. The one chance he had was ruined. He sighed as he entered the yard and went straight to his small bedroom.

He lay there in bed looking at the ceiling, then there was a vibration from his small phone. He took it out of his pocket and his eyes widened at what he was seeing.

A message from a strange number. Telling him he needed to be at the meeting because it was important. That they needed his presence there as soon as possible.

He tried thinking long and hard about it. He has never down a thing in his life that will make someone want him at the meeting. What was this? Was this all a joke? Was it a wrong number?

Then, as if to answer his question, another message from the same number popped up on the screen. Stating, he needed to pick up something from the back. Some papers that they will need at this so-called meeting. Some back statements or something.

He got up from his bed and began pacing up and down. What was this? They referred to him as sir. And now one has ever called him that. Could this be a mistake on their part? Maybe they don’t know they were sending the messages to a wrong number.

He ran a hand through his hair a couple of times. Still unable to believe it was happening to him.

He took the phone from the bed and read the messages again. Then he decided to give them a call before he goes mad.

“Hello,” a woman answered him. “Sir, afternoon,” she spoke.

“Hey and afternoon to you too. Sorry, but I think you have the wrong guy. I got some messages from you a few minutes ago. I think you have sent them to the wrong person, mom,” he spoke, and he walked up and down his room.

She laughed lightly, “no sir. They are meant for you. We have been trying to contact you for the past weeks now. Aren’t you Mr. Mwansa? Trevor Mwansa?” She asked.

His heart thumped even more. “Yes, I’m. But what meeting are you talking about? I don’t work and I have never been anywhere to be called for a meeting,” he spoke in a rush.

“I know you have a lot of questions, sir. But I will answer all of them when you come for tomorrow’s meeting. Your workers will be very happy to finally see you. We all can’t wait to see you. Now I will talk to you later I need to get back to work,” she spoke politely and hang up the phone.

He was left dumbstruck by what he had just heard. They called him sir for the first time. His workers will be happy to see him. What workers was she talking about?

Every word she told him echoed in his hears. She knew his name and that he was the son-in-law to the Noah’s empire. This can’t be a coincidence. He must be telling the truth.

But he couldn’t believe it all. He thought maybe someone was playing a prank on him. He just had the worst day of his life. His bike got smashed beyond anything. He couldn’t sell the locket that Mr. Noah gave to him. And now he was hearing about him attending a meeting and about his workers.

This might be a dream or something. He walked into his room, unable to believe it all. He didn’t even hear as someone was knocking on his door until his mother-in-law walked in.

“I just came to remind you that I need you to sign those divorce papers and before sunset tomorrow, I need you out of this place,” she said.

This is why he needed to attend the meeting. To protect his family. To keep his wife with him. And teach them a lesson or two for what they were doing.
