LUCAS AND MAXIM sat in a dark bar. They were huddled over a small table.

"What did you conclude?" Maxim asked, "It's been two weeks since we last spoke."

Lucas waited for a while and then said, "I will do it," He drank from his beer mug.

Maxim smiled, "That is a good decision, Lucas," Maxim said.

Lucas raised an eyebrow and asked, "Is that so?"

"Yes, my friend," Maxim said, "Any other answer and we would be seated here," He gestured at his untouched drink, "We would not be seated here over beer."

Lucas made a sound from the base of his throat in reply.

"So, what now?" Lucas asked Maxim.

"Now," Maxim started, "You be on the lookout," He slid a small piece of paper across the table.

Lucas picked it up and saw that it was a picture. A picture of Nicole, "Who is this? What should I use this for?" He asked.

"Be on the lookout for any meeting that your stepbrother might have with that lady," Maxim said.

"Who is she?" Lucas asked again, a little more forcefully this time.

IT HAS BEEN 3 days since Rick left the house for Miami and Jon had felt a very strange type of loneliness. He knew he was bordering on depression at that point. His best friends were in different parts of the world, and even with the one that was in the next state – Jeff – Jon still felt very lonely. Jeff barely had the time to text, let alone to call, whenever he was in New York. Once in a while, he spoke with Paxton, but he had not heard from Rick in over a day. The house had become too big for Jon, Maureen, the housekeeper knew what Jon was feeling so she tried to reduce that feeling by making him sugary food. She had read somewhere that sugar helps to reduce sadness. But Jon had no appetite for anything. He only ate when he felt extremely hungry. He immersed himself in the family's empire, constantly thinking of new business enterprises to enter and invest in and spending sleepless nights researching on any ideas he had.He barely saw Lucas, except in the tower. They had very

"WHAT DO YOU mean he has a business going on with Nicole?" Maxim snarled. "You heard me right," Lucas said, crossing his leg. He adjusted on his beer keg, trying to find a comfortable sitting position, "Why the hell did you pick this place?" He muttered to himself. "Look around you," Maxim said, "Does anyone here pay you any attention?" He asked and answered the question himself, "No. This place gives us – you – that privacy and secrecy you need." Lucas nodded. It was true. "What type of business are they starting together?" Maxim asked. "Well, you stopped Jon's plan of venturing into the waters, so he is going into the air now," Lucas said. "They're starting an airline company," Maxim chuckled dryly, "My God! That is one smooth move." He gave a dry laugh, "Your stepbrother…" He wagged his finger at Lucas, "He is one smart bastard…" A side of Lucas's lips tilted slightly, "It was not really Jon's idea. Your Nicole was the one that approached Jon." Maxim cursed inaudibly under

"I WANT IT," Jon said. "Um, maybe we can make – build another one for you," Gale said helplessly, "I have this amazing team of different engineers. We would build one exactly like this and –" "I want that one… now!" Jon said, coolly, "350 million dollars," He added. Gale was distraught, "But Mr Stone, it has been sold…" He said in a tight voice. "And I want to buy it for almost triple the normal price, what do you say?" Jon asked. "Don't put me in this type of position, sir," Gale said, "I beg of you," Gale pleaded. "I am not putting you in any position, Mr Gale," Jon said, "All it would take was some papers for me to sign and a transfer to you. Simple as that," Gale looked at Jon, "The previous owner won't take it lightly," He said. Jon smiled, "You said 'previous owner'. That means it doesn't belong to them anymore." "That w-was slip of, um, tongue," Gale stammered, "It was a slip of tongue." "Right," Jon muttered, "So what do you say?" Gale still looked cut between. Jon

JON TOOK A deep breath before he pushed open the door and walked in. Maureen was in her rocking chair, knitting, but she looked up as she heard Jon walk in. She used her finger to point up to signify that Lucas was waiting for him upstairs. Jon nodded and went up the stairs, taking it in twos. He entered his room to see Lucas standing in the middle of the Persian rug. He turned when Jon entered. "What's up?" Jon asked."You kept me waiting," Lucas said. "I was nowhere near here," Jon said, "And I was not with my driver." Lucas scoffed and said, "You should always go out with your driver and even bodyguards. Your father taught me that."Jon rolled his eyes, "Yeah right," He muttered, "Why did you text me. It sounded urgent." He sat on his bed. "It is urgent. Did you, by any chance, do any incriminating thing at your party in Illinois?" Lucas asked cryptically. Jon was confused and his face showed it, "incriminating? What do you mean?" "Did you do anything that can be used again

THE FIRST THING Kimberly noticed as soon as she stepped out from the plane was that New Jersey had a clearer sky than Illinois. Ideally, she whipped out her phone and took a series of selfies with different facial expressions. She immediately shared them on her social handles, and added the location as "New Jersey." And captioned it, "New City. New Adventures. New Jersey – eye-boggling emoji. Head blown emoji. Blowing kisses and hearts emoji. She headed out of the airport's departure and flagged a taxi down. She showed the address that Maxim Ivanov had given her to the taxi driver and he nodded before putting the taxi into gear and driving off. After almost half an hour, she was dropped in front of an old stone building. She stepped out and cross-checked the address on her phone with the small chrome address written on a brick. "Yeah, this is it, alright," She muttered, looking up at the one-storey building, "This doesn't look as impressive as what I read about him on Google," She

HALF AN HOUR later, after washing and dressing completely in expensive suits, Jon and Lucas had breakfast together. Maureen smiled as she saw the two brothers getting along. She did not have much love for Lucas, as she saw that his mother had come and replaced her beloved Grace but Lucas and his sister, Poppy, were adorable most of the time. A young maid served them pancakes, eggs and bacon. Just as Jon finished and stood up wiping his mouth, the door swung open and someone came in. Jon peeped through the door of the dining room and sighed, "Poppy is here," He said to Lucas. Lucas looked up from the newspaper he was reading and raised his eyebrow, "What is she doing here?" He asked, "She is not supposed to be here until Friday…" Jon shrugged and walked out. She was giggling at something on her phone as she entered the grand foyer. She looked up and gasped, "Jon… you surprised me," She said, dramatically holding her chest like she almost had a heart attack. "Hello, Poppy," Jon sa

THEY STAYED IN the air for close to an hour, Jon had no idea where they flew to or the route they took. But he was very satisfied with the sound of the engine. He drank his champagne slowly as he mulled over thoughts in his head. He tried to figure out what Maxim was up to and the part that that dumb Kim had to play in it. He knew Kim was nothing but a puppet in the grand scheme that Maxim had. He thought of texting Kim and asking to meet her, but he knew that it would arouse suspicion and possibly blow Lucas's cover and he did not want that. He still needs Lucas in that circle of his enemies. He needed the information that his stepbrother got from Maxim. "Penny for your thoughts?" Nicole's voice brought him out of his reverie and to the present. He smiled, "Even thousands of dollars can't buy my thought," He said. Nicole chuckled, "You just bought yourself an aeroplane. "HE DIDN'T LOOK so enthusiastic to be here," Kimberly said. "Lucas is always glum," Maxim said. "That was not it," Kim said, shifting closer to Maxim, "This was more. As you talked on the plan, he kept his gaze on me." "You are a very pretty lady, you should have gotten used to the stares." On closer relations, he realized that Kimberly Berkley was not a shallow person. She was a bit superficial at times but had something deeper to offer. She sometimes came up with good ideas and had smart opinions on some matters."It was not a lustful stare," Kim said, "I can't place a finger on it." She moved closer. Maxim pushed her off and said, "It's nothing. Lucas is down for this. He doesn't like Jon." "Okay, if you say so," Kim said. She sulked for the next 2 minutes until Maxim said, "Tell me the plan," She brightened up and replied, "I'll call Jon tomorrow and set up an impromptu meeting in his office.""And?" "HOW ARE YOU feeling today?" Jon asked as they left the hospital. His hand was around Nicole's waist, supporting her as they walked out with her nurse in tow. "A lot better," Nicole smiled. "That room was starting to feel a little crampy." Jon chuckled. "There is a lot of space where you are going now." Nicole smiled. They got into the waiting limousine and Jon's driver pulled out of the parking lot. It had been a week since Maxim fled for Russia and things had been relatively quiet. There were no talks about assassins or attempted murders anymore. For Jon, the only annoying part was Antonio Orsatti, strutting around like a peacock. He had to do something about him. But what? He asked himself. "What are you thinking about?" Nicole's voice drew Jon back to the present. He shook his head. "Nothing, nothing. I'm excited you are coming home with me." Nicole gave him a knowing smile and said. "Maxim is behind us now."Jon coughed out a laugh. "Why said anything about Maxim?" He as

JON DROVE TO the hospital parked, at the end of the lot and sat in the car, taking deep breaths and calming himself. He ran his hands over the steering wheel. There was a loud whine of an engine behind him. He turned to see a Porsche squeal into the parking lot some yards away from him. He turned to see Antonio get out of the car. He flipped a loose strand of his long hair behind his ear. He put on sunshades and then walked into the hospital. Jon was in awe of what Antonio was doing here. "What the fuck?" Jon muttered under his breath. "When did they even release him?" He asked himself. He wanted to follow Antonio and confront him about what he was doing here, but he decided to wait it out and see how it played out. He did not have to wait for long because, after a few minutes, he saw Antonio coming back out. Jon opened his car door and folded himself out. Antonio was taken aback for half a second when he saw Jon standing in the parking lot. He looked hesitant to approach Jon bu

THE MANSION WAS lit up with sirens the following morning. A servant tapped on Jon's door to wake him up. He brushed his teeth, washed his face, and went down in his pajamas. Alex Brandon and Mirtovic stood in his grand foyer. He stepped out just at the same time as Vincent, who was a little more formally dressed than Jon. "Head director," Vincent nodded at Mitrovic, and then he turned to Brandon, "Head director," he nodded again. "To what do I owe this surprise?" Jon asked dryly. Lucas came out of his suite and eyed the men. If looks could kill, both Mitrovic and Alex would have dropped dead. "Have a seat and drinks maybe," Mitrovic said. Jon snorted and led them into the study room. Lucas poured out 5 glasses of Whiskey. Vincent declined his, "A little too early for alcohol. Don't you think?" Jon nodded in agreement. He collected the glass from Lucas but did not drink it. "What do you have to tell us?" Mitrovic took a drink from his cup before saying, "News just got to us.

"YOU CAN GO in now, Mister Stone." Jon stood up and gave a small nod at the FBI agents who had spoken to him. He walked into the room to see Lucas seated. Lucas looked up and gave a smile that did not reach his eyes. "I told you something would happen," Lucas said when Jon came in. "They screwed it up, didn't they?" Jon nodded. He paced the small room and massaged his eye socket. "You should call Vincent," Lucas said. Jon stopped and looked at Lucas like he was about to argue. But then he nodded again, "I will. What were the charges against you? Why did they bring you in?"Lucas scoffed. "Did they need to have a reason?" He asked back. "I saw the way the Brandon guy looked at me that first time, he wanted to bring me in from there." Jon didn't have anything to say to that. So he sighed and said, "I am going to get you out of here." Lucas nodded as Jon left the room. He got back into his car and sped out of the parking lot. His mind was spinning as he drove into the mansion. H

IT WAS ONE importance of having numerous contacts in every area of the world. One of his contacts had informed him of the incoming arrest. Maxim had been in the kitchen, making himself breakfast when he received a text from his contact saying that there was a big arrest of a Russian coming the next day, all the bosses in the head offices were riled up and prepared. That was all the heads up that Maxim needed. He tossed the eggs into the trash can and left the house without even parking a bag. Just his car key and the clothes on his body. He hopped into his G-wagon and drove gently – He didn't overspeed. Nothing to catch their attention – to the airport. He told his pilot to take a one way flight to Russia immediately but that was not possible. The pilot had told him that the fuel wouldn't carry them nonstop, so they had to make a stop in France to refuel, before making the last half of the journey. That sounded fine. He just wanted to be out of New Jersey when the FBI came knockin

JON HAD A very short night. He woke up 3 hours after he closed his eyes, and his eyes remained open. After lying prone for a long time, he turned and glanced at the bedside clock. It was 6 a.m. "I might as well prepare for my flight back to New Jersey," He muttered as he threw the covers back and swung his leg over the edge of the bed. He grunted to his feet and went to the bathroom. He stepped into the cold shower to wake him up for the morning. After washing up, he headed downstairs where the maids were already setting the table. Vincent had told them last night that the big boss was going to leave very early the following morning, so they had to wake early to make sure he is well taken care of.Jon took a seat at the dining table and nodded as his meal was served. "Have one of you get my bags from my room upstairs," He said to a servant boy who nodded and headed up immediately to get the bag. After a few minutes, Jon asked, "Are they going in hot?" Vincent nodded, "Frok what he told me, They've got the FBI and Interpol with them. I don't see any way Maxim Ivanov would escape his arrest." "Lucas seems to think they'll screw it up somehow."Vincent gave a sad chuckle. "Your stepbrother has always had a pessimistic outlook. But I want you to see the bright side." You should be glad."Jon was not sure how he was feeling. He still had a tugging at the b

"Sir, there's someone here to see you," He said. Jon raised an eyebrow, "Who is it?" Oliver cane in and closed the door gently behind him. He cleared his throat and said, "She said she's from the NBC news station. They want to run a story on you." Jon was surprised. "Me?" He asked. Oliver nodded. "Personally, I don't like the media. I can turn her away if you like. The desk downstairs held her." Jon swiveled on his chair and thought aboht it. Then he shook his head and said, "No. Let her up."
