HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 14Rodriguez was seething with anger as he drove back to his house. His brother had just chosen a total stranger over his own nephew and had handed over his father’s legacy to someone else.‘I’m done playing nice Alfredo. HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 15Xavier and Don Alfredo’s flight landed in Los Angeles at midday. They had called the head office and informed them to set up a meeting with the board of directors before getting on the plane. Don Alfredo had also informed his security details to be at the airport waiting for them including some plain clothed cops.When they reached the airport, Don Alfredo’s driver parked across the road and waited for his boss to get in.Suddenly, a gunshot was fired. The shooter made use of a silencer so that the sound would not be traced back to him amidst the crowd but he was spotted by one of the cops. The bullet pierced Xavier in the chest. He was the shooter’s target.Xavier fell with a thud and soon, there was pandemonium in the airport. Passengers ran and scampered for safety. The cops and security team immediately went towards the direction of the shooter.Don Alfredo couched down and lifted Xavier up.“Get him inside the car!” He screamed at the remaining officer

The board meeting was in a few minutes and everyone was already seated.The don formally introduced Xavier as his son and the heir to Hernandez corporation. This piece of information sparked confusion among the staff. No one had ever heard about Xavier Hernandez.While the Don was still speaking, some of the staff and their secretaries began digging up information about Xavier. Who was he? Where had he been the whole time? Why didn’t the world know about him until now?But his slate was clean. There was no tangible information about him on the internet. He replaced the empty glass on the table and picked up his phone.“What should I do now? Should I call Nathaniel and inform him of his uncle’s decision to give the company to a stranger? Would he finally be concerned about the company if he finds out?”He stood up and paced about the room. “If I tell him about it, I’d also have to tell him about the things I’ve done to take back the company. That will only put him at risk. If I get caught he’d be treated as my accomplice. I’m doing all of this for him so I cannot afford to get him into trouble.‘I just have to infiltrate the company. I need someone there who would be willing to work with me. There has to be someone who is not happy about Xavier’s presence and the power he has come to wield.He smiled broadly as he remembered. He had looked into The J&K project and had found out that it would be a great advantage to Hernandez corporation if the partnership pulled through. J&K corporation was a huge architectural company and were also into construction. They were open to partnering up with real estate companies who would help them plan and market their redevelopment projects, and sell of new buildings that would be set up in that area at the best price possible.Xavier knew he had what it took to close the deal. He just needed to meet with the CEO Of J&K.He got to the office and saw scarlet waiting for him outside the door.“Micah Simmons got here very early. He’s waiting inside your office.” Xavier nodded and asked her. “Is there any news from J&K?”“Yes sir, I was able to contact the president of J&K corporation . Xavier had only been gone for about ten minutes but she was already imagining the worst.She wondered what Simmons must have planned out. She knew he had something up his sleeves. He definitely was not happy that Xavier had occupied the much revered position he had always had his eyes on. What if Xavier actually falls into their trap? And why did simmons insist on Xavier going alone?Unable to bear the thoughts anymore, she picked up her phone and called Don Alfredo. He picked up on the second ring.“Something’s wrong Don.”“What is it child?” Alfredo asked, hearing the tremor in her voice.“Simmons set up a meeting with the president of FG global. He wants Xavier to partner with the company. Thing is, the company is going under. They have a lot of debts and will soon be auctioned off. Simmons knows that. HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 20Scarlet tossed and turned on the couch. It wasn’t because the couch was uncomfortable. It was because she had too much on her mind. The event of that day kept replaying in her head over and over again.She sat up and looked over at Xavier. He was fast asleep, still shirtless. She had adjusted the room temperature,but she still felt hot. ‘How could he sleep so peacefully after what he did to her?’ She thought.She scolded herself for being so faint hearted and easy. How could she let her desires show when she knew he was a cold hearted monster? How would she face him now? What would he think of her?She lay down again and begged sleep to take her. It didn’t. Then she had a thought. She couldn’t be the only one feeling uncomfortable. She would make him pay. HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 21Xavier slowly opened his eyes, his vision blurry. He blinked severally and tried to sit up. The searing pain he felt jogged his memory. He remembered the meeting and then going back to the hotel. He remembered the car that followed them to the airport, and then the gunshot. He remembered Scarlet and the frightened look on her face.“Be careful. You had a bullet in your stomach.” Scarlet said.He sat up with difficulty and turned to look at her. Her eyes were swollen and had dark circles underneath. He wondered if she had cried or if she had been able to sleep at all.“My father.” He said, finally sitting up. “You didn’t tell him about this did you?”Scarlet sighed and as she opened her mouth to respond, Xavier’s phone rang.“How are you son?” Don Alfredo asked“I’m fine dad.” “Liar. Do you really think I wouldn’t find out about what happened at the airport?”Xavier turned and looked accusingly at Scarlet.“I didn’t tell him.” Scarlet mouthed“After the rece
