He replaced the empty glass on the table and picked up his phone.“What should I do now? Should I call Nathaniel and inform him of his uncle’s decision to give the company to a stranger? Would he finally be concerned about the company if he finds out?”He stood up and paced about the room. “If I tell him about it, I’d also have to tell him about the things I’ve done to take back the company. He had looked into The J&K project and had found out that it would be a great advantage to Hernandez corporation if the partnership pulled through. J&K corporation was a huge architectural company and were also into construction. They were open to partnering up with real estate companies who would help them plan and market their redevelopment projects, and sell of new buildings that would be set up in that area at the best price possible.Xavier knew he had what it took to close the deal. Xavier had only been gone for about ten minutes but she was already imagining the worst.She wondered what Simmons must have planned out. She knew he had something up his sleeves. He definitely was not happy that Xavier had occupied the much revered position he had always had his eyes on. What if Xavier actually falls into their trap? The event of that day kept replaying in her head over and over again.She sat up and looked over at Xavier. He was fast asleep, still shirtless. She had adjusted the room temperature,but she still felt hot. ‘How could he sleep so peacefully after what he did to her?’ She thought.She scolded herself for being so faint hearted and easy. How could she let her desires show when she knew he was a cold hearted monster? How would she face him now? What would he think of her?She lay down again and begged sleep to take her. It didn’t. He remembered the meeting and then going back to the hotel. He remembered the car that followed them to the airport, and then the gunshot. He remembered Scarlet and the frightened look on her face.“Be careful. You had a bullet in your stomach.” Scarlet said.He sat up with difficulty and turned to look at her. Her eyes were swollen and had dark circles underneath. How is that even possible?” Don Alfredo asked in disbelief.“Nothing came up on the security footage. The person who brought in the bottle of water was in the police uniform alright, but he wasn’t one of them. No one knew him. I guess with all the commotion, nobody noticed that he was a stranger. The guy had a face cap on, and he skillfully avoided the cameras. He’s vanished into thin air.” Xavier replied,devastated.“And are you sure Dante was telling the truth, that he wasn’t responsible for the attack in Argentina?”“I don’t think he was lying. We had his family, and the police promised to take care of them. But if he didn’t do it, it only means there’s someone else out there who wants me dead. HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 23“Monday mornings suck.” Scarlet exclaimed as she sank into her chair. She rubbed her aching foot and relished the relief she felt. Monday’s were usually busy. She had had to fill in for Xavier in some meetings while he attended others.She peeled into Xavier’s office to see if he was back too. He was in his office. He stood close to the widow, one hand in his pocket. He always took that posture when he answered the phone.“Sure dad, I can come over for dinner. It’s been too busy at the office, I rarely eat dinner at home.” He said“Then it’s settled then. I’ll ask Margaret to make something delicious. Bring scarlet along. I haven’t spoken to her in a while.”“Umm..sure.” Xavier replied reluctantly.“Whats with the reply? Do you not like her?” Alfredo asked.“She’s good at her job, I give her that.
