[Level Up]

Ethan sprinted towards Leo, delivered a powerful kick to the Mutant Wolf's corpse, and gazed at Leo's motionless face, which had been partially crushed by the force of his weapon.

'Leo!'

He was filled with rage. His heart felt as though it were being torn apart. He could have done something to save Leo, but there wasn't enough time either.

No matter what He did, Leo’s death was inevitable. He was too far from the beast to execute any short-range assaults; the only way to retaliate was through distant strikes.

“No, no, no, no!”

The price of his victory was Leo's death, a weight Ethan was not prepared to bear.

He had slain his first Monster, but it was not the triumph he had dreamed of. For the first time in his life, he had taken another's life, and the pain of it stung him to the core.

'Why did it have to be like this?!'

Ethan let out a loud cry of despair as he acknowledged the gravity of the situation. He was the sole survivor of a battle where a dozen people managed to defeat only one Monster, leaving himself heavily injured.

'I have to survive!'

He could hear the distant howl of another Monster, and he had no doubt that there was more than one.

His mind raced as he took a deep breath and carefully checked his wounds. There was no time to regret what had happened; he had to persevere until the first wave of the attack had been overcome.

The gash on his hand had begun to clot, but he still could not move it. In the midst of it all, Ethan realized that he could gain power from someone if he managed to take their life.

Ethan was appalled by the way the System worked -- if many people found out about this information, he could imagine them greedily fighting and destroying one another in order to become more powerful. He was sure that this kind of avarice would make people forget who was a friend and who was an enemy.

He then checked the new item in his Inventory, summoned it, and suddenly a pair of dark blue leather boots decorated with wolf fur were magically stuck to his feet. His old sneakers clattered to the ground.

[Purple Grade Heavy Hide Boots of Silent Hunter]

[Agility: +5]

[Durability: 30/30]

[Weight: 20]

'Incredible! Killing monsters actually rewards us?'

Ethan noticed a few differences between the Hammer and the shoes he had just obtained. For instance, the new item had a Durability status, which would likely decrease over time with use -- if its Durability reaches zero, the item would be lost or destroyed, just like in a game. Moreover, the item's status in his Inventory had changed. Before summoning his new shoes, this was the status in his Inventory.

[Inventory 4/4]

[1. Mjolnir x1 (Equipped)]

[2. Normal Container (Clothes) x1]

[3. Normal Container (Foods) x1]

[4. Purple Grade Heavy Hide Boots of Silent Hunter x1]

[Monster Crystals]

[1. Purple Grade Mutant Wolf Crystal x1]

Ethan noticed that after calling on the shoe, it vanished from his Inventory, unlike the Hammer that was still present but with a status of ‘Equipped’. This led him to assume that the Hammer was exclusive to him, while things he acquired from Monsters could be given away.

'My level has also increased! It must be because I defeated the Monster!'

He also noticed that the number of Monster Crystals in his Inventory had increased without taking up the four slots he had initially.

Finally, He was pleased to find that the stats of the Hammer had increased to match his own level.

[Mjolnir (Growth Type) Lvl. 3]

[Strength: +7]

[Physical Attack: +280]

[Weight: 630]

Ethan leveled up twice, earning 2 Stats Points and another 1 after accidentally killing Leo.

Examining his stats, he saw:

[Ethan Lvl. 3]

[HP: 70/70 (Weakened) (Original: 200)]

[MP: 30/30]

[Energy: 3/20]

[Willpower: 32/100]

[Weight: 650/630]

His wounds were gradually healing. However, his left hand remained incapacitated, even though the System had promised him a regeneration bonus.

Ethan elected to allocate the 2 Stats Points to Strength, as he needed extra might to lift the Hammer, whose weight had increased, and his new shoes, which had lightened some of the load.

He used the last Stats Point on Constitution, hoping it would help the wound, but it only raised his total HP and had no effect on his left hand.

"User Profile."

Ethan again confirmed his latest stats.

Ethan experienced a substantial boost in attack potency and mobility. With this, he anticipated that evading attacks or uncovering chances to retaliate would become simpler.

The remains of the Mutant Wolf and Leo then gradually disintegrated into ashes and vanished with the wind, akin to the remains of other players who were different from the standard human beings that still stood there.

Ethan rose to his feet, expecting the Energy and Willpower to quickly restore before confronting the subsequent Monster. At the same time, he could hear a howling noise that was getting closer.

From various directions, the rooftops of shops, the end of the street between abandoned cars and the other. Five Mutant Wolves bounded in and encircled his stance.

"What should I do?"

He was now alone on the corner of the street with the remaining Monster.

The three nearest Monsters took an aggressive step forward while one stayed back and prepared itself for combat. The others had their heads raised toward him as though they had already been ordered to kill him. Their red eyes shimmered under the dark night sky. They seemed even more ferocious than the last one.

'Should I run away?'
