Chapter 2: I need help

Sofia almost puked at the gory sight. It was a scary sight, and she got uncomfortable staring at the man's lifeless body.

Sofia took one last look at the old man's remains and felt sorry for him, However, she couldn't help but continue to stare at him. She imagined the kind of pain and suffering he must have been through.

His leg was still big and the worms continued to spurt out of his leg. This time they were not ordinary worms.

One could compare them to the size of a millipede. They had some similarities, a cylindrical body and two pairs of legs, with shiny silver color.

After finding their way out of his leg, they left a giant mark there, a big hole that explains that they were once there.

“Dispose of Zita”, the Witch pointed at the old man, signaling her minions to do something.

Engulfed with the mixed feelings she felt, it was confusing, Sofia had never seen something like this before. At some point, she thought of crying or maybe shouting or wailing.

But they would do little or no help right now. She thought hard amidst tears, her eyes never left the man's lifeless body and she kept wondering why he got such torture from the witch...

Looking at his body alone overwhelmed her, she cried within herself, trying her best not to make any sound. She sobbed and mourned him for a while...

“I couldn't save him, but if I try, maybe the pregnant lady might make it out alive”.

Pulling herself together, Sofia headed to the stairs, she went downstairs but strangely nobody was there.

The gates were locked, and cars were parked in their usual spot but there was no soul outside.

“Why does everything seem so odd?“Sofia pondered for a while before turning around.

She climbed the stairs and stopped at a single guy's door, she knocked on it but all she could hear was loud music coming from inside his house.

She knocked continuously but she got no response.

“Well he couldn't hear me with the loud music anyway”, she sighed and walked away.

“Here or there?“, Sofia contemplated as she pointed fingers in different directions, confused as to where to go.

“I think I need help at this point, am all alone with no one to assist me”, she was sad but she needed to do something to save the pregnant lady.

Sofia went to three more flats but they were all locked up. “Yes it's midnight but they normally sit outside by this time to chat and discuss among themselves, what happened today?“.

She pondered for some time but answers were not forthcoming, it was quite strange. Hence she concluded that something was up.

Like a lost sheep, Sofia staggered back to her balcony, having no clue as to what to do, and once again, she lay flat on the floor, staring into the witch's shrine, expecting the worst.

Sofia got to her balcony and saw the Witch's colleagues walking around the pregnant lady who lay flat on the table.

She watched them with keen interest but they did nothing other than hold their calabashes and walk around the pregnant lady, while the witch sat on her throne staring into a big box.

Sofia couldn't predict their next action because all they did was walk and stare into space with an emotionless look on their faces.

The Witch kept staring into the big box, she never broke her gaze.

Slowly she got up and took the calabash containing the overcooked canine and premolar mixture.

The hotness of the calabash was like ice on her hands. There was a nonchalant look on her face.

She behaved as though she held a warm spot in her hands despite the hotness of the calabash. Her minion's stopped walking around the lady and stood at a spot.

The Witch held a sharp pointy knife in her right hand and the hot mixture in her left hand.

She stood in front of a gigantic mirror. Shades of silver and gold were beautifully arranged in the frame of the mirror. It looked classy and powerful.

One could mistake them for flowers but they were just paintings.

“Were they just paintings?“…

They were drawings of owls and black mambas at the bigger parts of the frame. Rare crystals and stones were kept at the edge of the mirror.

Precious stones were worth more than gold to treasure seekers. The mirror was extremely clear.

As soon as she stood in the front of the mirror, something changed. The extremely clear mirror suddenly became cloudy and Misty. It showed lines of lightening meanwhile only the stars were up in the skies.

It became confusing, Sofia prepared herself for what might happen next.

A cow's skull suddenly appeared in the mirror, it was cloudy at first but then it became clear. The horns were bigger and had a different shape from the regular cow horns.

The Witch moved back to where her minions stood transfixed, she turned around and saw them. Without saying anything she moved back and continued going backward till her back faced the mirror.

The cow's skull disappeared and a pair of old and rough-looking phalanges appeared, it was open as though it was waiting for her to drop something.

She turned around, not daring to look up, slowly she stretched her hands and placed the calabash inside the waiting phalanges.

The phalanges disappeared and what Sofia could see was the mixture boiling with so much force.

She looked closer but there was no fire, no phalanges.

The Witch still stood at a spot with her heads down and her eyes closed.

“So where's the fire, what's making the pot boil so much?“.. Sofia was confused about everything.

It was as though the phalanges ignited some sort of invisible fire beneath the pot.

After some time, the phalanges appeared and the witch faced up, walked to the mirror, and took her mixture.
