Time was of the essence; the sounds of heavy pounding feet were beginning to fill the area around us. Regardless of what injuries we had suffered on our fall from the portal, forty feet easy, we had to get on the move, use our shards, and get out of sight if this mission was going to go smoothly. All three of us were on the ground writhing in pain, this was not an ideal situation as we did not plan for the worst, only the semi-worst.
Our brains were filled with images of rushing demons and imminent doom, how the hell were we supposed to remember which shard did what? There were only three colors, there were three of us. If we each took one color, then one of us would get the correct shard that would heal wounds or at least relieve the pain from that person.

Holding onto each other’s belt loops with me leading the charge, Jennifer, Sarah, and I quickly but cautiously made our way down the narrow pathway that the board of demons had come rushing from when they heard us hit the ground when our trip through the hell portal was over. The forty-foot drop had left us all badly injured, Sarah more than us, but our demon shards had performed exactly as predicted by Todd, leaving the three of us invisible and somewhat healed, at least healed enough that the immense pain from our impact injuries had subsided and we were able to function as if we had not been completely decimated by the dirt covered rocky floor. All seemed well, there was screaming in the distance, no doubt it was a new arrival getting acclimated to his new permanent home. We pushed forward, unable to see each other but knowing we were still attached based off of the constant tugging on our
Forgetting everything I had said to Jennifer and Sarah, I switched sides so that I would be flanking the opposite side of the doorway than they were. We were now detached; my belt loop was free from tugs and the comforting information that those tugs provided to me while we were invisible in the middle of hell. Peaking my head into the demon’s cavern once more, I had to fight off the urge to just storm in there and laser his insides all over his filthy wall. I could hear Jennifer whispering something, it was really quiet, and I doubt it made the impact that she was intending. Her words fluttered through the air, navigating their way towards Jackson, spinning around past the demon that was spitting spider web material at him. She said, “Jackson, if you can hear me, I wish you would fight like hell to free yourself. I really wish you would use your abilities to break free from the demon’s webs and hustle out here.” I picked u
With the mission only halfway done, the battle of all battles was coming our way quickly. The horde of demons that had passed us earlier while we were a trio and invisible, had heard all the commotion and quickly turned around and were sprinting our way. We had a few problems here. Three of us were invisible, but Jackson was fully exposed. Jennifer had given her fragment of red demon shard to Jackson to prevent Sarah from accidentally killing him. We needed to figure out how we were going to deal with the incoming demons while protecting Jackson from them. Sarah happened to remarkably remember one of my instructions as I watched her red demon shard float to her mouth and disappear once she had placed it inside. How sweet of her to think of the rest of us. I took mine out of my pocket, broke it in half, and hande
At this point in time, my Jackson, little helpless Jackson, knew nothing of his grownup demon commanding version that ran a section of hell for the Dark Lord himself. It was my fullest intention to keep his ears virgin to these facts, no matter what the cost. Hopefully, we could get this party started with fighting, leave the talking for later. Jennifer and Sarah knew what I had seen in my first trip, the adult Jackson with the secretary Orphan killer. I am wishing with all of my heart that these two ladies understood what we were dealing with, the adult Jackson, and that we needed to be as delicate with our words as possible as to avoid any more trauma coming to little Jackson.
My ears were growing tired of the constant barrage of insults and hurtful things adult Jackson was spouting off. He was succeeding though; my blood pressure was through the roof, and I knew that I was going to end up making some sort of irrational decision to shut his smart mouth. My heart really hurt for Jennifer. The things adult Jackson said about her may have seemed true and factual but that was not the truth at all, not one bit. Now, the problem was that we needed to fight our way through a good number of demons before reinforcements arrived, as long as adult Jackson was not bluffing. As long as Jennifer was still mentally stable after the mental attack, he launched on her and Sarah was ready to try some new things to try to get us out of this mess, we should be able to get through this problem with minimal losses. I said, “
Goofing around with random demon shards could be the dumbest thing any of us had done since we were graced with our first breaths of fresh air right after the doctor gave us a good slap to make sure we were not stillborn. Unfortunately, we had absolutely zero choices. I did not want to put Jackson at any more risk than he had already been under, so using our sibling special ability was out of the question to me at this point. We all placed our transparent demon shards, one and a half’s worth, into our mouths and chewed them up vigorously. None of us knew the abilities, if any, that we would gain from the ingestion of the freshly harvested demon shards. There was also a chance, from something Todd had told me one time, that different people taking the same demon shard could be affected by it diff
We had not even been able to get into our formation before the first group of five demons turned the corner. Even flustered and uncoordinated, those five demons stood no chance at all as Sarah and Jennifer were able to splatter their insides all over the brown, dirty walls of the passageway. Demon heads and limbs were strewn about between us, and the remaining horde of demons being led by adult Jackson. Now that we were able to get into the formation that would allow me the opportunity to murder Sarah Macly as requested by Nurse Helen, it was time to push through the horde and get home. It actually seemed like fate, the fact that the transparent demon shards did not work on Sarah, her destiny was to die in hell at my hands. I did not particularly take pleasure in the fact that I was going to kil
It was not a long trip to get to the portal, we just had to keep moving. Jennifer and Sarah led the way to the portal which was almost ideal for me and my situation. Jackson was in front of me and behind Sarah, our tactical line continued to push forward. The walk was long, but we accomplished it quickly. Adult Jackson had already retreated out of sight. I was very tempted to try to trick Sarah to come with me to go and kill the orphan killer. Knowing her, she would certainly accept my challenge so she would have an opportunity to show me up and have a nice little battle tale of her own to tell. Sarah Macly did not know that she was never going to set foot on Earth again. She had no idea that her seat in the alliance was vacated and ready for the next human with special abilities that had an affinity for killing demons. Her inability to control herself had p
