Ethan’s heart grew bitter as he watched the sun set and darkness fall. His mind was restless, as every night he had to sleep in an abandoned building with no doors.

He wants to hurry up and get back to his little room, where he was temporarily staying. He had been delayed at work because some equipment needed repairs, and as the cleaner, he was required to stay and clean up the mess.

He was saving up to get a better one-room apartment in a normal area, once his savings were sufficient.

By the time he reached the old, abandoned house where he resided, it was already 1:45 a.m. After a long day at work, he still had to walk nearly two hours to get there.

As he approached the old house, he noticed bright lights shining from within. His heart raced as he walked toward the building.

When he got closer, he saw his tattered bags and small bed lying outside. Panicking, Ethan rushed to check his briefcase, where he had been saving his money, but it was nowhere to be found. To his shock, the house was suddenly sealed with doors and windows.

Realizing that those who had thrown his bags out had stolen the money he had worked so hard to save, Ethan grabbed the few belongings he could carry and headed toward an elderly woman’s house. Thunder rumbled in the distance as the weather worsened, signaling an imminent downpour.

He knocked on the elderly woman’s door. “Hello, ma. Please, can I leave these bags here with you? I’ll come back for them at dawn,” Ethan asked, his face cold with worry.

The old woman opened the door and asked him to come inside. “What happened, Ethan? Why are you out in this terrible weather?” she asked curiously.

“The old building where I’ve been staying… I think the owner wants to use the property, so he threw my things out,” Ethan explained, as the old woman covered him with a towel.

“I’m sorry to hear that. Don’t worry; you can sleep here at night until you get your own apartment. This house is big enough for both of us,” she said in her tiny, shaky voice.

“Thank you, ma. I promise I’ll get an apartment as soon as I can,” Ethan replied. The old woman nodded and went upstairs to sleep while Ethan settled on the couch in the sitting room.

The next morning, Ethan woke up with a start and quickly checked his watch—it was already 7:14 a.m. He hurriedly got dressed in his old clothes, which looked no better than rags.

The old woman prepared tea and brought him a cup. “You should drink this before heading out,” she said.

“Good morning, ma. Thanks, I appreciate it,” Ethan replied with a small grin.

On his way to catch a cheap bus to work, he walked past a lady whose car had broken down, not noticing her as he rushed to avoid being late. But then he overheard her on the phone, shouting, “Do you expect me to wait here for an hour before you come and fix my car?”

Ethan hesitated, then turned back to look. He saw the car and thought to himself, Hopefully, I won’t regret what I’m about to do.

He approached the young woman, who looked frustrated. “Hi, what happened to your car?” Ethan asked calmly, gauging her response to decide whether to help.

“My car broke down all of a sudden, and I can’t seem to find a cab here. I only came to check the work they’re doing on my site, and now I’m stuck,” she replied, surprisingly polite despite Ethan’s shabby appearance.

“Alright, you don’t need to worry too much. I can help you fix it if you don’t mind,” Ethan offered, glancing at the car.

“Okay, sure. Please, take a look,” she said, nodding.

Ethan examined the car and quickly identified the problem. It took him less than four minutes to repair it. “Ma, you can start the car now,” Ethan said, already in a hurry to leave so he wouldn’t miss the bus to work.

The car started perfectly, but before Ethan could walk away, the woman called out, “Hey! Hey!”

Ethan turned back reluctantly. “What’s it? Your car is working perfectly now. I need to go to work, ma—I’m almost late, and the bus will pass soon,” he said, trying to remain respectful despite his urgency.

“I just wanted to thank you for your kindness. Where do you work? I can give you a ride if you don’t mind,” she offered with a kind smile.

Ethan hesitated but realized he wouldn’t make it on foot. “Okay, I work at Caldwell Horizon,” he said, but before he could finish, the woman interrupted him, surprised.

“Oh, that’s my dad’s company. I can drive you there,” she said.

As they drove to the company, the woman introduced herself. “My name is Sophia Caldwell. Sorry, I didn’t catch your name…” she said, glancing at him.

“Um… yeah, I’m Ethan Fallow,” he replied, avoiding her gaze.

When they arrived at the company, Sophia parked the car and stepped out first. The security guards immediately lined up and bowed their heads in greeting. Ethan was shocked at the display, realizing just how wealthy she was.

Do you want James to come after me? Look, I get that your dad is pressuring you, but I’m not ready for marriage either. I can’t fake a relationship—let alone a marriage. I’m sorry, but if this is why you brought me here, I’d rather leave.” He stood abruptly, his frustration clear.Sophia remained calm. “I only asked a question, Ethan. You’re free to say no. And, for the record, this has nothing to do with me bringing you here. It just crossed my mind, so I asked. That’s all. Sit down; it’s

And who exactly is this man? What’s his name?” he asked firmly.James hesitated, fumbling for a response. “His name is Ethan,” he said finally, forcing confidence into his voice. “I’ve noticed him for a while, and I even tried to warn Sophia, but she won’t listen to me. I thought Paul was still the friend I knew, so I told him about everything you’ve done for me. But I just found out he’s working for James now. Weren’t you the one who told us about your struggles? About how you suffered before you became the man who could make others rich in a single day?
