Digging the Treasure Below

Swoo.

Hek.

Huuuf...

Breathing slightly heavily and digging more into the ground, Corey abruptly stopped as a wooden sound echoed inside the room.

By now, he had dug only about one and a half meters, and even that had taken him more than 5 hours.

He was sweating heavily but he was also suddenly filled with energy due to the wooden sound.

Rin and Theresa looked down from above the hole and Theresa jumped down. She was muddy and dirty since she was shifting the mud he put into the house away from the bed.

She wasn't really that lazy not to help.

"Try digging more," She said.

Corey nodded and pushed the rusty shovel into the ground; that wooden sound echoed out again.

They both exchanged glances and started to move the mud away using their hands. When it was clean, it finally became visible.

Some kind of wooden thing.

They struggled for some more time and removed the mud entirely from above it and a small door came to sight.

It had a lock but Corey hit it with the shovel and it immediately broke.

They were about to open it when Rin spoke from above. "Big...Big brother... What if something comes out or there is some kind of disease inside?"

Corey's hands paused. Just... what if?

"Give me the gas mask." Gas masks were quite cheap and most of the Garbage dump people had one. This was something Theresa had even before he joined the family.

Rin took it from under the bed and threw it to him. Theresa tried to catch it but he caught it in the end.

"Theresa, go up, I will check it this time," Corey said while wearing the mask.

Theresa looked at him with a frown. His calling her Theresa meant he was serious.

"I can also come down with you. If something happened I can give you a drop of my blood and you can ask the System for help or... yeah something like that!"

"Big Sis is right Big brother, you should bring her too, No, just drink a drop of her blood before going down instead," Rin said from above.

"No need, the chance of something bad is already zero considering I am wearing a gas mask." came out a dulled voice from inside the mask: "What can even be there? This so-called Blood Ancestor's ghost?"

He didn't want to drink any more of her blood.

There was nothing to fear. The only possibility was diseases that even the Filthbloods might be vulnerable to.

"Anyway, Theresa, go up and out of the house itself. Wait for me up there."

Theresa looked at him and had the urge to give a powerful smack on the back of his head.

"Who are you to order me around?" she asked without moving.

Corey looked at her. "Don't act dumb and just do what I said, we only have one Mask."

"And that is MY one mask."

Corey sighed at her thick head. She was quite hard to bend at times.

In such simple, childish matters.

"Okay, what do you say... It's sure only one of us can go in, but can you absorb the Blood Energy in case of an emergency?"

Theresa turned silent at that.

Rin said from above. "Come in Big Sis, it's your loss."

Theresa looked at her and then looked back at Corey. "But there Is one more option, right? None of us goes in and we just return back to normal. No need to take any unnecessary risks."

Corey calmly pondered on that option.

Rin asked from above. "Isn't it just fine to ask your System if it is dangerous or not? That seems like the best option to me."

Corey looked at her and sighed inside. He had also thought of that and that made him ashamed.

Rin silently slid down the ground and showed him her crystal clear hands. "Big brother, I seem to have scrapped my finger... can you check it?"

Corey looked at her finger with a hurting heart. 'Isn't that a knife cut... You stupid girl...'

But that was the best option. 0.1 was a known insignificant weakening and issue.

Corey gritted his teeth. 'Yes, Blood Fruits... I should feed them more than enough. No... I should just not use this door and just find some other way to find blood.'

"Big Brother, you are being unreasonable now. There is no harm done to me, so what are you hesitant about? Just do it."

Corey hesitantly nodded and in the end, absorbed 0.1 Blood Energy from Rin.

His hands were clenched extremely tightly after that and Rin was a bit dizzy.

"System, is there any harmful danger to us inside the door?"

[System scanning... Energy fluctuations inside are stable, and Microorganisms are harmless to Blood Clan members too. No obvious dangers inside.]

He clenched the gas mask and threw it aside.

Rin couldn't help but sigh. While on the other end, Theresa was looking at them with a steadfast expression.

Whatever that happened, she will be and must be there to face it with him.

Rin sighed once more in her heart. 'They love each other much more than they love this poor me....'

Sigh...
