Elden and his party left black wind fortress, the site of their previous battle, and continued their journey toward the astrahal desert. According to the Dragon's Tome, hidden within this desert was one of the keys to the ancient Dragon's Heart, an artifact capable of awakening the true dragon power within Elden.
However, the journey to Astrahal was anything but easy. The desert was known as a perilous place, filled with desert bandits, magical creatures, and deadly sandstorms. Weakened and wounded from their last battle, they needed to move quickly before Malagar’s forces caught up with them.
Under the scorching sun, Elden walked at the front of the group alongside Kaelar and Renard, while Vaelis stayed at the rear, shielding them with protective magic against the sandstorm. Despite his injuries from the last battle, Renard maintained his usual nonchalant attitude.
"You know? I'd rather face Malagar’s army than walk through this place," Renard grumbled, shaking off the dust from his clothes.
Kaelar snorted. "If we run into Malagar’s forces here, you’ll be begging to return to the heat of this desert."
Elden offered a faint smile, but deep inside, he felt a heavy weight. Ever since the dragon mark on his body had grown more active, he had been experiencing a strange change within himself, as if something was awakening, calling to him.
“Something wrong?” Vaelis asked, watching him closely.
Elden hesitated before answering, “I feel like... something in this place recognizes me.”
Vaelis fell silent. As an experienced mage who understood the world of magic more than anyone, he realized that the dragon blood within Elden had begun responding to something in this desert.
At last, they discovered a hidden oasis in the middle of the desert, a safe place to rest. However, in the dead of night, a group of desert bandits launched an attack. These were no ordinary bandits, but half-demon creatures led by a mysterious warlord named Razhmir.
Renard was the first to notice the danger. Just as he was about to take a sip from his water pouch, he heard soft footsteps behind the desert shrubs.
“Wake up! We have company!” he shouted.
Kaelar immediately unsheathed his sword, while Vaelis readied his magic. Elden, barely asleep, jolted awake, sensing the dark aura surrounding them.
Razhmir, a tall man with deep brown skin and glowing red eyes, stepped out of the shadows. “I can smell dragon blood from miles away... I never expected a dragon heir to step into our domain.”
His bandits, scaly-skinned, sharp-toothed creatures, attacked with brutal speed. Elden and his group fought fiercely. Renard wielded his twin daggers, deflecting blows from two bandits at once, moving nimbly despite his unhealed wounds.
Kaelar, as always, stood as the team’s shield, engaging Razhmir directly. Their swords clashed, sending sparks flying into the sand.
Elden, still struggling to control his power, found himself surrounded by four bandits, each faster than him. In a moment of panic, the dragon mark on his arm glowed red, and suddenly a wave of fire erupted from his body, incinerating his enemies in an instant.
For a moment, everyone, including Elden himself, was stunned. He had never been able to wield such power before. But something in this desert had awakened it.
Razhmir took a step back, his eyes gleaming with intrigue. “Interesting... very interesting. I will meet you again, Dragon Heir.” Then, he vanished into the darkness, leaving behind his defeated forces.
After the battle, the group settled back down to rest. Elden stared at his hands, now marked with red fissures resembling dragon scales.
“What just happened to me?” he asked, his voice filled with confusion and fear.
Vaelis gazed at him intently. “I believe... the Ancient Dragon’s Heart is calling to you. The dragon power within you is awakening, and the closer we get to our goal, the stronger its call will become.”
Kaelar placed a reassuring hand on Elden’s shoulder. “You’re not alone in this. We’ll figure it out together.”
Renard sighed before patting Elden on the back with a small chuckle. “Just do me a favor, if you start turning into a dragon in the middle of the night, give me a heads-up, will you? I’d rather not be roasted alive.”
They all laughed softly, but deep down, each of them knew, this journey had only just entered its most dangerous phase.
And far in the depths of the desert, the eyes of a dark ruler watched them from afar...
After their battle against Razhmir and the demon bandits, Elden and his group pressed deeper into the Astrahal Desert. The call of the Ancient Dragon’s Heart grew stronger with each step, drawing them closer to their destination.
According to the Dragon’s Tome, hidden somewhere in this vast desert was Valthorien, the Buried City, the last refuge of the dragons before their extinction. Within its ruins lay the key to the Ancient Dragon’s Heart, a legendary artifact known as the Aether Eye.
But no one knew if the city was real or just another legend.
Their journey became increasingly grueling. Sandstorms arose without warning, forcing them to seek shelter behind massive rocks.
Renard, walking at the rear, felt something unsettling. As if they were being followed.
Vaelis whispered an incantation, causing the wind around him to swirl gently. “There’s a magical presence nearby… but it’s unlike anything we’ve encountered before.”
As the storm subsided, Elden suddenly halted before a vast stretch of land that looked different from the rest of the desert. The sand was darker, and the air was strangely cold, despite their surroundings.
“This is the place.”
As if responding to his words, the ground trembled. The sand beneath them collapsed, swallowing them into darkness!
When they regained consciousness, they found themselves in the midst of an ancient, hidden city buried beneath the sand. Towering pillars engraved with dragons surrounded them, while massive stone statues depicted giant-winged creatures that once ruled this world.
“This… is incredible,” Kaelar murmured in awe.
Vaelis approached a wall carving, depicting a human with a dragon mark on his arm, standing among colossal dragons.
“These are the heirs before Elden…,” he said quietly. “Those who once lived with dragon power flowing through their veins.”
Elden stepped closer, feeling the pulse in his arm intensify. He placed his hand on the wall, and suddenly a golden-blue light flared, forming a dragon symbol in the air.
That was when the shadows emerged around them.
From the darkness, armored knights clad in golden plating with glowing blue eyes stepped forth from the ruins. They were not human, but spirits who had remained to guard this city for thousands of years.
One of them advanced, locking eyes with Elden.
“The last heir has arrived.”
The voice echoed through the chamber, filled with power and authority.
Elden swallowed hard. “I’ve come for the Aether Eye. I need it to stop Malagar.”
The guardians exchanged glances before their leader spoke once more. “The Aether Eye is not given to the weak. If you wish to claim it, you must prove yourself worthy.”
In an instant, the guardians attacked!
Battle erupted in the heart of the ancient city. The Valthorien guardians were no ordinary foes, their magical prowess rivaled even Malagar’s army.
Kaelar immediately intercepted the first strike, parrying a knight’s sword with full force. A burst of blue sparks flew, revealing that their weapons were made of something far beyond ordinary steel.
Renard darted through the ruins, leaping and striking at the knights’ weak points. “They might not be alive, but I bet they can still be broken!” he said, driving his dagger into a gap in one of their armors.
Despite his age, Vaelis used his magic to shield the group. But this trial was not just about combat, Elden had to prove himself.
As one of the knights lunged at him, Elden closed his eyes and let his dragon instincts take over. He dodged the strike effortlessly, and suddenly translucent wings appeared on his back, allowing him to leap higher than ever before.
With one final move, he slammed his hand onto the ground, unleashing a wave of blue fire that consumed all the guardians at once.
When the dust settled, only the leader remained.
He gazed at Elden with approval. “You have proven yourself as the Dragon Heir.”
With a single motion, he revealed a hidden passage within the ruins. Inside, a radiant crystal sphere hovered, glowing with golden-blue energy, The Aether Eye.
Elden stepped forward and took it. The moment he touched it, visions flooded his mind.
He saw the last dragon in existence, hidden away in a dark, frozen place. He saw Malagar, searching for the dragon to fulfill his plan.
And most shocking of all, he saw himself, fully transformed into a dragon.
Elden gasped and pulled his hand away from the Aether Eye.
“What did you see?” Vaelis asked.
Elden looked at them with a serious expression. “I know where the last dragon is… and Malagar is searching for it too.”
Silence fell over the group.
Kaelar clenched his fist. “Then we have no time to waste.”
Renard sighed. “Alright… let’s keep moving. But please, no more falling into sand pits.”
With the Aether Eye in hand, Elden and his companions left the Buried City.
