Chapter 2 Wrong Timing to Get Divorced

The package was red and heart-shaped, very romantic to match the occasion.

Mark waited for her to open it.

However, Celia, in uncontrolled rage, threw the package into the kitchen trash can where they were!

"Celia! What does this mean?" Mark couldn't contain himself.

"What do you think? I'm getting rid of these cheap gifts bought at the stationery shop! Is this how you want to save our marriage?" Celia retorted.

"You didn't even open the package! Don't you want to know what's inside?" Mark approached the trash can.

"If you take the package out of the trash, keep it! I don't want anything reeking like garbage! That's the last thing I need!"

Frustrated and unable to take it anymore, Celia went to her room and slammed the door shut.

Mark, scared, retrieved the package from the trash bin.

He hoped the contents wouldn’t be broken.

Discouraged, Mark decided to go to the bathroom with the contents.

Once inside, he closed the door and sat down on the latrine. The wrapping was undone...

If Celia had accepted and opened the gift, she would have seen a gold-colored credit card and a high-tech wristband.

These were not gifts that you find at street vendors’ stalls and craft fairs!

The gold card had a practically inexhaustible limit with the flag of a very exclusive bank in Braspolis, the city where they lived.

Only a few clients of this bank managed to get this rare credit card.

The wristband had a monitor that would give Celia access to the true identity of her husband.

Taking advantage of the solitude, Mark turned on the bracelet and began to operate it.

Then the small monitor acted as a camera, and Mark was able to see faces on the other side that he hadn’t seen in a long time.

“Lord Ferro!” A few middle-aged gentlemen greeted him, wearing military uniforms.

“Good evening, generals and gentlemen of Aurelia’s military force.” Mark greeted them respectfully.

Even so, the gentlemen behaved as if Mark was the one with the power. “As we are aware, we want to extend our warmest congratulations on completing one year of marriage.”

“Thank you very much, gentlemen.” Mark didn’t display anything wrong.

“We hope that the marriage between you and Lady Ferro lasts more and more years!” Another high-ranking member of the Military Force saluted with reverence.”

“You gentlemen are very kind.” Mark gestured in acknowledgment.

If Celia were seeing Mark, she probably wouldn’t recognize her husband.

That sweet and dreamy guy, always fast and eager to please her, was now speaking to officers of the Aurelia Military Force with seriousness and a powerful aura!

After several greetings, Mark said goodbye to the generals and continued to fiddle with the wristband until his cell phone rang.

Mark picked up an old-style phone and answered the call, smiling slightly when he saw the name on the caller ID: Linda Mattes.

“Hello, Miss Mattes?”

“Lord Ferro... It’s a pleasure to contact you after almost a year.”

“How have you been, Miss Mattes?” Mark softened his voice a little but did not lose the aura of leadership.

“Everything has been under control.” Linda responded promptly, “With the first anniversary approaching, everyone was eager to receive some contact from you.”

“Well, here I am. I’ve already greeted old acquaintances.” Mark replied.

“Yes, and several gifts have arrived here at headquarters from different places and people. What is the address so I can send all the packages?” Linda asked efficiently.

Mark didn’t know if he could continue to fight this strange feeling.

“Lord Ferro?”

“Miss Mattes, I’ll tell you what happened here, but I hope this stays between the two of us for now.” Mark made up his mind.

“What happened?” The voice on the other end broke.

“Lady Ferro asked for divorce today.”

There was silence on the other side for a few seconds. Afterward, Linda regained her ability to speak.

“But... why does she want to do this right now?”

“Because she thinks I’m a poor wretch, and she’s tired of living in deprivation.” Mark’s voice was worthy of a funeral.

“But Lord Ferro, she doesn’t know that you had to fulfill the agreement to live in anonymity for a year if you wanted to rest and live with her. I understand that she doesn’t know who you are, but asking for a divorce right in the day before... it even seems like a joke!”

Mark smiled at the corner of his mouth. Yes, it seemed like a joke.
